Business EP finds Nathan back in familiar musical territory. Up next on 20/20 Vision we welcome the ever-diverse and evolving Nathan Jonson. Following a decade of producing and DJ'ing as Hrdvsion, Nathan has stepped out under his birth name to mark a new stage in his career. Cross Colours is a perfect representation of this new stage, a hybrid of all the styles he has become renowned for.
When we heard Cross Colours we were all in agreement that Luke Vibert would be the perfect remixer. Luckily Luke agreed too and turned in a killer take on the original, flirting with early rave and hardcore whilst keeping the electro aesthetic. The B side is rounded off with a club focused version from Ralph Lawson & Rui-Z (which has already being championed by Seth Troxler on his most recent Essential Mix) and a dark techno rework from exciting new 20/20 signing Dokta, who you can expect to hear a lot more from this year. John Tejada and Arian Leviste are back on Areal after their much celebrated release “Reactance“. These guys are working for 25 years together meeting up weekly in the studio to try new things. They say themselves that it is their longest and most special collaboration. They use mainly hardware with an old school mind set that comes more from the early 80s NYC hip hop culture than anything else. Early pioneers misusing gear and making the best of their limitations. It was a hot summer day, no clouds in the big blue sky, as I suddenly got up to return my friends basketball after not returning it for more then 10 years. I don't know why I did it, I don't know why I had to do it right now. As I walked down the street holding that ball I was flooded with memories. The party at Michael's house. Those crazy Technokids from upper Austria. The drinks, the drugs, the girls, the blurry parts... One memory was especially blurry, the one where I pick up that basketball. I was alone in my friends garage, the repetitive sound of filtered kickdrums coming from inside the house. I remember feeling like I am not really alone. Flashy lights. My memory seemed to be coming back more and more the closer I get now. The garage door was open. I got inside. I try to put the ball back in the cardboard box where I took it from as the garage door closes. Darkness. A voice whispers: "I smell your sound and I eat your colors" More

"What was the name of that moon again?" Captain Fairleys voice never misses its purpose. "All energy to the laser-cannons, we come in hard and we come in blasting!" Captain Fairley, the dreadful space-pirate, grabs the radio while he steers the ship with his wooden foot towards an attack position. "People of Dysnomia, come out of your cute little houses with your hands up high in the sky!" That's when the Dysnomians start running, as they all do, unable to accept the unavoidable. "How many percent on the Cannon?" he yells. "Sir, 100 percent Sir!" The Captain does not tend to over-think. "Fire!" And as the laser- cannon fires, the crew suddenly realize the Dysnomians are not as stupid as they thought they where. Instead of firing frightening laser-fire next to their homes to make them obey the mighty pirate and give up all their gold and Adamanthium, the ship itself gets fired away backwards into the endless emptiness of the Haumea nebula. More

When she was supposed to be hung by her ponytail she made smokesignals with her cigarette, calling for her friend Sid to rescue her. After having blessed the world with "Soarex" released on our sublabel IRR (International Records Recordings), including a remix by Ada, we would now like to welcome von Spar to Areal. And this time, the remix comes from no other than techno legend John Tejada. With "Jon Voight", the Hamburg-based artists have created another epic masterpiece in line with their earlier electronic tracks: Great emotions, melodies you will never forget... in other words: a track that will send something of a shiver down your spine. Tejada, of Austrian decent now living in the United States, shows full respect for the original version and comes up with a remix that has proven immensely effective on the dancefloor. It so effective that we still find ourselves awestruck in the studio. Well, in the meantime, we have to admit that we went out to one or two parties, but only to find ourselves back in the studio again, still awestruck. More

Areal has gathered all its friends and fellows to celebrate its glorious past. Each of them had received the same message with the following content: Enclosed, you will find samples taken from more than 200 tracks released on Areal between 001 (Basteroid / Automatique) and 057 (Metope / Betawol). No Rules! And our words have obviously fallen on open ears: The called have poured onto us supreme grandeurs of music whereby each of them individually tackled the historic collection of sound files. You can literally feel the fun they had quoting the label's history and the loads of positive energy. So, we would now like to proudly present: "a 100 years of Areal" A wonderful collection of homages of Areal's old and new friends, such as: Schleppstigg, Hrdvsion, Undo, The Cheapers, Pan/Tone, Pascal FEOS and Frank Leicher, Andreas Henneberg, Fairmont, Metope, Basteroid and Falko Brocksieper.
