The third and final chapter in a three-part EP series from Field Records comes from Michel Isorinne, who has released a number of tapes under various lies in recent times. Little else is known about the man but for the fact that he makes earthly, organic ambient that is filled with found sounds and subtle progression. The first track 'Blurred Perceptions of Substance' proves exactly that, with its tweeting bird calls, horizontal church bells and the distant and gentle patter of rain all soothing the brain. The thoroughly absorbing mood continues through all six tracks, which range from downbeat and sombre to more cautiously optimistic. The sounds of crinkled paper, big organs, heavenly chords, gently tumbling, slo motion drums and lots more besides all colour these tracks to perfection. To put them on and tune in to them is to forget about the outside world and get lost in emotive soundtracks that transport you to another place entirely.

Wave Stu might just be the Platonic ideal of icy, emotionally fraught synth-pop. On his debut release for Origin Peoples, Stockholm-based musician Michel Isorinne puts paragons of this style like Orchestral Manoeuvres In e Dark in his slipstream. Laced with spoken-word passages from films and television shows, Wave Stu weaves a loose tale about the nature of time, physics, and mortality that can be summarized by the key phrase, uttered by a woman scientist somewhere throughout the album, “magic is in the molecules...” Isorinne essentially creates introverted minimalist symphonies in which sprightly synth leads peacefully coexist with melancholy, drone-y undercurrents.

Field Records welcomes Acronym for a new album, Malm, which follows many great ambient laced deep techno EPs and LPs on Semantica and Northern Electronics. The 10-track beatless affair pays homage to one of his lost friends who was torn between his dualistic nature. In a state of paranoia, stress and inner conflict, even brief moments of panic can be fatal for yourself and the people around you. This album is born from those ideas and was recorded and arranged between 2015 and 2017 in different parts of the world using various analog and digital synthesizers and effects. Informed by grief and sorrow, the album evolved through a number of different forms and finally comprises three acts; the first two showcase the artist's take on the mental and physical circumstances during the events that took place on the 4th of January 2016 in Malmi, Helsinki, and the final act presents his viewpoint after that date. The Swedish artist offers absorbing and meditative passages of ambience and sombre atmosphere across all pieces here. Long, tailed pads gently come and go, occasional percussive sounds get sprinkled about and bleak keys bring real tenderness. It's an escapist listen that ranges from oppressive and heavy to more subtly uplifting and is one of the most coherent and cohesive albums you could wish to hear.

Field Records looks to L'estasi Dell'oro (Christopher Ernst, aka Penalune) for a new three-track EP for sound systems that once again takes us down the rabbit hole. Following on from his previous 'I Look Upon Nature While I Live in a Steel City' album in 2015, this is another masterfully drawn out and engaging affair. "Either to please or to educate" is the intended purpose of this EP release, utilizing guitar, tabla, and other electronic and acoustic instruments. The incessant movement of the metronomic tremors felt underneath our plains lay the rhythm. The threadbare dialogue we use to communicate frays slightly further. These spirals are given an explicit voice through Leader Annabelle Kuwe's dispassioned public address to the remaining world at the Great Meeting of 2166, as recounted by Sadie LaPierre on closer 'Achieve Ignition'.

Field Records is proud to present a new experimental mini album from Scott Monteith aka Deadbeat that touches on the traditional music of Qawwali. Entitled Qawwali Quatsch, it feature lots of transcendental sounds and hypnotic violins and voices across eight tracks. This absorbing album came about after Monteith--best known for his dub techno--attended the 2015 Wasser Musik festival in Berlin, which featured music from both the coastal and land locked regions of India and Pakistan. One performer was Asif Ali Kahn and his "Qawwali party," as Qawwali bands are appropriately known, and his show really struck a chord. The resulting music (which the artist admits is just a humble experiment galaxies away from the real power of the source material that inspired it) makes up this first album under his own name, and is a sympathetically infused album that ably captures the spirit of the revelatory, life changing music that is Qawwali, and an entry quite unlike any other in his now vast catalog. Collaborator and longtime friend Sophie Trudeau of Godspeed You Black Emperor! was involved for additional violin and voice treatments.

Field Records continues to focus on its first run of solo artists EPs with four tracks from UK pair Szare. Before now this Frozen Border and Horizontal Ground duo has excelled in crafting cavernous bass chambers and off beat rhythms with ease - just as they do here. Riding up and down, skipping left and right and swelling with a sense of post apocalyptic optimism as it goes. This EP is full of fresh ideas, fulsome production and a dark energy that makes it fit perfectly on the most recent end of the hardcore continuum.
