DAISUKE KONDO from Okayama, Japan, releases a 12” vinyl “Rongorongo.” Dynamic rhythm and dubby multi-layered house groove are equipped in side A 1 “O-N-RA.” Side A 2 “Turn” is a dance track that has tribal rhythm and cosmic scale. On the side B, two cool similar versions remixed by a young genius KEITA SANO, which feel ‘raw,’ are recorded. He is from Okayama as well, and has released his works from various labels around the world, such as Mister Saturday Night or Crue-L, now attracting a lot of attention. The low sound that sounds like it is boosting speakers feels comfortable. This is a special single produced by two youngsters from the same town.

IDJUT BOYS started in early 90s, when House Music was heading for the bubbly, wild excitement, and they have always been active in an underground scene which has been drawing the line at the mainstream. Carrying on the tradition of House and Disco, they have ever played an important role in forming the House and Disco culture in UK, producing the intoxicating groove of Funk and Dub, which is the significant factor in House and Disco. They also have been supported and loved in Japan together with DJ HARVEY, even in the days when the scene of Club and Party was being reformed in 2000s, so to speak, Summer of Love "in Japan." Their longawaited 7" single is released from a label ALTZMUSICA, which is presided by ALTZ, who has made sworn friends with them since ALTZ's tracks "Yello" and "Tune In" were remixed by them in 2005. This work is an Edit & Dub work based on guitars and basses performed by ANDY HOPKINS, who is like an associatemember of IDJUT BOYS. It has dance groove which consists in a psychedelic perspective which, as it were, reminds us of the primitive, fluid wriggle before dawn. The groove is also positive energy. A remix by ALTZ, "VERSION ALTZ," on Bside is reconstructed in different dub work from the original, taking over the viewpoint of IDJUT BOYS. It is a version which has gained strength and experimental taste by more progressive editing and effecting.

japanese import ALTZMUSICA is a label presided over by ALTZ, who is known for releases from Bearfunk, Dfa, and Bosconi. This work is titled “Gonno vs Altz.” It is a split EP by ALTZ and DJ Gonno, the standard-bearer of next-generation House/Techno in Japan. It sounds aureate melodies peculiar to the Japanese, deep groove, and beautiful downbeat. DJ Gonno is famous for EP “Acdise #2” released from International Feel Recordings in Uruguay, and he will be more and more successful from now on. ALTZMUSICA has been releasing lots of works since 2005, and has sent out such artists as Grupo Chambelan, aSymMedley, and San Gabriel, to the public. No sales to Japan!

Inspired by revolutionary efforts against oppressive hegemonies in Detroit, and in Black locales around the world, Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz is a sound score evocative of that resistance. It is also a reminder that although violence and injustice looms, it is not the only story: we are much more than what oppresses us. The album celebrates Black leisure and play; the mundane joys that persist in spite of the depleting realities of the world.

Movement, and the very mobility of the car specifically is integral to Memoirs of Hi Tech Jazz. Timed perfectly to match the duration of a round trip drive from Underground Music Academy in the North End, to Detroit’s island park, Belle Isle - the album is undoubtedly best experienced while driving.

That journey signifies the transition from labor to pleasure: from the neighborhood of the Techno Museum in North End to an outdoor park that has long been a destination for Black Detroiters to cookout, park their boats, play spades, and listen to local music.

Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz embodies the feeling this place engenders—a reprieve from the midwestern work ethic, and a reminder to ground in the pleasures of your body and the land.

Bedouin aka Tamer Malki and Rami Abousabe are to release their long awaited and adventurous debut album Temple of Dreams on their own label Human By Default this Spring. Over the course of the pandemic, Malki and Abousabe spent a great amount of time finalizing songs created in the past 7 years, composing, song writing, singing, and working on numerous projects including collaborations and new originals. Temple of Dreams was shaped from these sessions and captures the enigmatic sound of the versatile, forward-thinking group. Malki explains that the album looks to “experiment and push the boundaries.” It differs from their previous work, as the album is intended to be a deep listening experience for the fans, rather than a slew of club cuts. The multi-talented artists sought to create a timeless sound in Temple of Dreams. Malki outlines that the album lies between “what we play on stages around the world and what we’re capable of writing and producing as musicians and producers. We wanted to exceed expectations and present something that you might think or feel you’ve heard before, yet it's something completely new and not what might be expected from us.” It starts with the enchanting sounds and candle lit grooves of Rise And Fall then journeys far and wide through the Eastern string sounds of Coldman featuring Nathan Daisy, darkly alluring vocals and mystic rhythms of Voices In My Head and the hypnotic melodic leads of Crazy feat. Iveta Mukuchyan. Elsewhere the richness of Bedouin's sound makes for spellbinding listening on tracks like Hokema Feat. Delaram and Flore Chico feat. Chico Castillo with its alluring Spanish vocals. Love And Hate is a more dynamic and punchier house cut while Fill The Space is an intriguing mix of melodic magic, authentic instrumentation and smooth rolling grooves. The musicians, singer-songwriters, and producers in Bedouin have spent the better part of a decade fine-tuning their sound, which draws as much from their Middle Eastern heritage as it does their world travels as DJs playing iconic venues across the globe. They have pioneered a distinctive and timeless sound on some of the world’s most notable labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, All Day I Dream, and recently their own imprint—Human By Default.
