Matt Karmil is a British musician currently residing in Sweden. “++++” is his third album, following 2014's PNN debut ”- - - -” and IDLE033, released on Bristol label Idle Hands earlier this year. His output also includes a variety of singles for labels such as New York's Beats In Space Recordings and Stockholm's Studio Barnhus. On this new album, Karmil can be heard exploring the concepts of impossible objects, reflection, symmetry, infinity - perspective, truncated and stellated polyhedra - hyperbolic geometry, tessellations and lost love. While making the music that constitutes “++++” he interacted with mathematicians George Pólya, Roger Penrose and Harold Coxeter as well as the crystallographer Friedrich Haag, and also conducted his own research into tessellation. The result is “++++”, Karmil's most clever, strange, emotional and fun work yet, a testament to his breadth and depth as a musician. Did we forget to mention that he's an awesome party dj?

As Idle Hands reaches its 30th release, it gives us great pleasure to welcome rising talent Matt Karmill to the fold. To date Matt has delivered a strong body of work to labels such as Beats In Space and Yume, as well as dropping the cryptically titled - - - - album on Popnoname's PNN label last year. This three track EP marks his first appearance on the Idle Hands roster after earning his stripes on the shelves of the shop, and he will be following this record up with an album for us later in the year. The hooky leftfield house constructions on Play It continue the thread of adventurous releases Idle is championing in 2015, following Strategy's Seeds Of Paradise LP and Leif's broken beat excursions. With a balance struck between experimentation and satisfaction, Matt has delivered a record that continues the all important tradition of timeless music that the label always strives for.

After years of working in various, shall we say, departments of music, Matt Karmil was almost forced into releasing his own first 12" - a chance meeting with Ada after an invitation to play with Cologne Tape led to the release of irr 15 - the reverse peephole ep. With support from Barnt, Dj Koze, Axel Boman and Michael Mayer amoungst many others, things really couldn't have got off to a more surprising start - 'I've never sent a demo to anyone, and really thought that people wouldn't be so interested in the music I just made to entertain myself, but I'm starting to realise that the more I make music based on that premise, the more other people seem to enjoy it'. The somewhat nomadic Matt Karmil has been producing and dj'ing under many aliases and in many forms for years, but has now found a flow and sound that until recently eluded him. Releases on Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space, an e.p, the mysterious HAF001 and now the debut album appearing on cologne's own PNN, are sure to make 2014 a busy one for Matt Karmil.

From this soulful soil are plucked the gorgeous jams of So You Say (Dirty Tape Heads Mix) / Wheel, his debut Beats In Space Records 12". "So You Say (Dirty Tape Heads Mix)" elevates a sweeping disco loop into acid house heaven with a euphoric 303 bassline and hypnotic string sample refractions. The cloudscapes form into more precise patterns on "Wheel", a filter house jam tweaked to maximum peak-induced joy. canadian beatdown master “eddie c” is back with fourth full length on endless flight! this new album is his unique mixture of laid back hip hop and lo-fi house sound which is inspired from late 80’s to early 90’s and much more darker than usual. the album kick off by old school hip hop tracks of “carbondate”,in the park” then new wave disco sound of “way uptown” it reminds us nyc post punk/new wave artist “konk”,dubby brazilian percus-sive disco track “batucada”,”berlina” is early 90’s nyc house like pal joy, probably most club friendly track “bad words” is wired new wavy vocal house madness and the album close with dreamy down tempo track “an der wedding” heavy kraut rock influenced stuff.

after the world applauded sascha funke for his latest album “lotos land”, he gave away some tunes to friends for remix duties. düsseldorf based tolouse low trax formed “twirl” into a foggy dark mpc-seducer for romantic nighthawks that love dancing. also australian boy dreems prepared a remix that grooves odd and uncommon. his percussive version of “im feiern und feuer” is a slow whirlwind, perfect to start and end a great dj night. with tuff city kids a duo formed a remix that is good for big room love affairs. their version of “purple hill” is a heartfelt melange between trance and house deepness that works on any dance floor. the final edit comes from glasgow‘s junto club, who transformed “comola”, a tune that they already produced originally with sascha funke, into a longing dark melodic synth stepper. four versions, four hits, four atmospheric dimensions beyond words. tune it loud!

hrow the hands into the air: kornél kovács, on the go dj and producer from stockholm, who runs with his mates axel boman and petter nordkvist the label studio barnhus, delivers his debut ep on endless flight. it’s a 10inch, its juicy and enlarged with super happy emotions. two sample house bangers that came to life only for one reason: to make people smile. the a-side tune “szamár” twists with twisted rhythms, samples and disco sounds. the b-side features a remix of the tune “order to the sense” by the new zealand/german duo snacks. it was originally featured on the “i'm starting to feel okay volume 7” compilation on mule musiq. kornél kovács transformed it into a melancholic house anthem full of with highlife guitar riffs and smiling horn sounds. high spirits music for all circumstances of a party night. if you look for music that gives you joy: kornél kovács brings it here in a pure human panache.

the italian duo boot & tax got already one lp and four eps under their wings who all deliver house and techno that stands out. so far their records been published by glasgow's finest optimo music and meant records from paris. now the two give their debut for endless flight and release three tunes that listen to the name "dimension". they all got funk, they all love mesmerising melodies. you can feel the power of disco coming in with heavy seducing strings. you can get lost in echoed drums, trippy sounds and some oriental tones. and you also can march to cosmic techno that loves krautrock without embracing it. a multi-coloured ep that spreads deepness in an uncommon sense. if moves the heart and soul profound, while staying edgy and catchy.

the third and final part of the jacob f. desvarieux anthology on endless flight brings two more hot productions of the fabled french zouk veteran with roots in guadeloupe. the tune “rifyx” is taken from desvarieux’s 1985 album “oh madiana” and delivers arresting jazz-funk and zouk-suspense enlarged with touching horns, synth-enthusiasm and longing female vocals. the second song comes from the paris based, west cameroon born singer tala, produced by desvarieux for tala’s album “mother africa” in 1982. also here desvarieux tuned the synthesizers odd and edgy to let them dance with an afro styled rhythm. above all tala sings sexy with a chorus of girls while percussions go crazy and the sounds of horns are longing for the sky. on top of everything endless flight asked again the japanese producer kuniyuik to edit a desvarieux track. he chose “rifyx” and tuned it into an epic soulful eight minutes long dream house anthem that funks all dancers crazy. hotter than hot stuff here!

eddie c drops a new ep, consisting of three new track and “auf der ufer” – a tune he did with his norwegian buddy rune lindbaek, that is dancing a cosmic dance and that was never released on vinyl before. the three other works are crossing different territories. the eight minutes meditation “pumapunku” marries balearic flair with otherworldly synth-spheres.
the also epic “inner piece” opens the house box with waving basslines, furious chord suspense and some unexpected breaks.
the final is marked by “lonely without you”. a funky blue tune that brings in some peoples potential unlimited vibes for endless autobahn rides.

if sascha funke is part of the club culture since the nineties: his musical memory and sensibility goes way back before the early techno and house eruptions. for his new works, that all had been produced in berlin during the year 2016, he removed the dogma of functionality and shifted into a riskier, more open terrain, that does not offer club sensations mainly. “i think i would not have made such a diverse album without the time with saschienne. before saschienne i mainly worked sample-based and produced exclusively at the computer. by working with julienne as saschienne i discovered my love for the instrument. "playing" with the different synths is for me the greatest progress and ultimately also the best pos-sible form of expression for my music.” he confesses. for his new tracks he used several kind of gear – from a korg arp odyssey to a dave smith prophet 8, moog voyager, solina string keyboard or a yamaha pacifica guitar. stylistically his new orchestra lead him to a mesmerizing meltdown of trance, techno, synth-wave, post-punk and ambient parti-cles. “the use of all the synths allows you to work more emotional” funke explains and points his finger to the emotional landscape of “lotos land” that delivers enchanted atmospheres, sensible stomping grounds, funky twisted spheres and tragically hip psychedelic zones. at large there is an unmistakable strong uk influence. be it new wave, pop or early dance and techno stuff. sometimes the bass rolls like in a the cure song, then dreamy synth sceneries arise to stick in the mind.
