Alex Olson aka Balearic Skip, a professional skateboarder, now has a record on Jolly
Jams.
Claim to Fame As the progeny of the skateboard pioneer Steve Olson, Mr. Olson first
learned to ride at age 12. By 19 he was skating professionally, giving him the rarefied
distinction of being the first second-generation professional skateboarder. He often
appears on the covers of Skateboarder and Thrasher magazines, though these days his
clothing line is also getting attention from fashion editors.
Big Break In 2005 he signed a sponsorship deal with Girl Skateboards, one of the most
prestigious skate companies. “As a kid growing up, I never thought I would get
sponsored by them because they were at such a higher level,” he said. Still, larger brands
came calling. A few years ago, he parted ways with Girl Skateboards to work with Louis

Unsurprisingly, Richard Galling, does indeed hail from Milwaukee, having released disco inspired jams since about 2012. With his stuff getting plays on the likes of Beats In Space, he got his name out early. His latest offering is this single that features two original tracks and some remixes too. "303" features the eponymous bass machine all over this deep, arpeggio-heavy tech-disco jam, "Organ" swaps the 303 for a classic Robin S-style house organ, and "Prophet" adds some big room bass. Also included is a Prophet version of "Clear Water", a real late 80s, Shep Pettibone-style, Latin house joint.

It’s known that he has an enviable collection of disco on wax, that he’s not afraid to use it, yet no one seems to know if he sleeps, or where his bed is, or if perhaps he just lies down among record crates with one eye open, scanning his vinyl collection….
In any case, the guy knows what he’s doing. Along with SF’s Solar, he’s booked, hosted, and played alongside a long list of the world’s best underground electronic, house, and disco artists at his party series No Way Back, and his taste and talent for curating artists, and selecting records, is widely acknowledged to be some of the best around.

It's tempting to concentrate on Felix's Dickinson's History, his pre criminal justice act rave orchestration, his 10 years DJing for the Lifeforce parties in Japan or any of his DJing and touring achievements during the early formation of the UK House scene. But, to concentrate on any of these things is clearly missing the point. Yes, Felix was making and playing music in those "early days", but he has consistently championed underground music to this very day, whether via his myriad musical guises and aliases including Foolish and Sly, LHAS Inc, Das Etwas, Bastedos, and the soon to be revealed "Dedication" project, on labels like DFA, Eskimo, Rush Hour and International Feel… or through his own Label, Cynic Music. It's Felix's absolute dedication to music, parties and dancing, which has allowed him to remain as relevant today as he ever was, and which has secured him regular appearances at festivals such as The Garden Festival, Burning Man and Glastonbury, regular tours of Japan, the USA and beyond as well as his London residencies at 'Bad Passion' and his own party, 'Bring It', which he hosts alongside the Idjut Boys. Bizarre as it seems after such a lengthy involvement spent at the heart of the scene, despite everything he's already achieved It still makes more sense to be excited about what Felix is going to next.
