Fledgling label Shadow Pressings already made a mark with their debut release in March entitled the Chicago EP, garnering love from Hunee, Terry Farley and Luke Solomon to name a few. Striking while the iron is hot, the label are serving up four more heavyweight club tracks which include acidic edits, crunchy deep house, 808 electro grooves and dusty breakbeats.
Lead track Find A Friend jacks up the perennial classic with 808 rims and toms and additional synths but keeps things loopy and rolling. Holding One Shoe continues with the 808 theme whilst injecting a healthy dose of acid resulting in what sounds like a long lost Yazoo B side filtered through a lysergic lens. Train Of Fools decontextualises a well known acapella making for a deep and techy basement jam which will keep the floor moving and the speaker pumping.
Closing out the EP we have More Music In The Night, which chops up some familiar samples and layers up an 808 electro groove and breakbeats for a fresh take on early 90’s house.

The debut release on brand new label Shadow Pressings hits the ground running with 4 heavyweight club tracks that doff the cap to the halcyon days of Chicago house music. Opening track The Messiah takes the maestro Lil Louis blueprint with sampled sax licks and punchy synth stabs accompanying the raw, minimal house groove. It Started In Chicago heads in a more jacking direction with a snaking bassline, muscular drum groove, cut up vocal and sax hits.

Flipping over we have How Does It Feel which brings a touch of late night deepness with a rolling FM bassline and familiar vocal hook. Classic string stabs join the party in the breakdown adding the icing on the cake and making for a track guaranteed to create a special moment on the dance floor. Closing out this killer 4 tracker we have Changes which keeps things stripped back to the meat and potatoes placing all the emphasis on the punchy 909 drums and simple bassline.

Alex Olson aka Balearic Skip, a professional skateboarder, now has a record on Jolly
Jams.
Claim to Fame As the progeny of the skateboard pioneer Steve Olson, Mr. Olson first
learned to ride at age 12. By 19 he was skating professionally, giving him the rarefied
distinction of being the first second-generation professional skateboarder. He often
appears on the covers of Skateboarder and Thrasher magazines, though these days his
clothing line is also getting attention from fashion editors.
Big Break In 2005 he signed a sponsorship deal with Girl Skateboards, one of the most
prestigious skate companies. “As a kid growing up, I never thought I would get
sponsored by them because they were at such a higher level,” he said. Still, larger brands
came calling. A few years ago, he parted ways with Girl Skateboards to work with Louis
Vuitton, Vans and his current sponsor, Nike. More

Unsurprisingly, Richard Galling, does indeed hail from Milwaukee, having released disco inspired jams since about 2012. With his stuff getting plays on the likes of Beats In Space, he got his name out early. His latest offering is this single that features two original tracks and some remixes too. "303" features the eponymous bass machine all over this deep, arpeggio-heavy tech-disco jam, "Organ" swaps the 303 for a classic Robin S-style house organ, and "Prophet" adds some big room bass. Also included is a Prophet version of "Clear Water", a real late 80s, Shep Pettibone-style, Latin house joint.

It's tempting to concentrate on Felix's Dickinson's History, his pre criminal justice act rave orchestration, his 10 years DJing for the Lifeforce parties in Japan or any of his DJing and touring achievements during the early formation of the UK House scene. But, to concentrate on any of these things is clearly missing the point. Yes, Felix was making and playing music in those "early days", but he has consistently championed underground music to this very day, whether via his myriad musical guises and aliases including Foolish and Sly, LHAS Inc, Das Etwas, Bastedos, and the soon to be revealed "Dedication" project, on labels like DFA, Eskimo, Rush Hour and International Feel… or through his own Label, Cynic Music. It's Felix's absolute dedication to music, parties and dancing, which has allowed him to remain as relevant today as he ever was, and which has secured him regular appearances at festivals such as The Garden Festival, Burning Man and Glastonbury, regular tours of Japan, the USA and beyond as well as his London residencies at 'Bad Passion' and his own party, 'Bring It', which he hosts alongside the Idjut Boys.
