(Clear vinyl) As ever, Brewer's musical output looks to the heart of the genre - remaining true to purist sensibilities that favour economy of sonic components and studio prowess over unnecessary fanfare, but all the while forging new ground & refining a genuinely personal aesthetic. A powerful debut on a label in fine form that represents some of the best of the British artist's work.

o Long awaited debut album from Mike Connelly and his wife, Tara, recording together as Clay Rendering.
o Additional production by Dominick Fernow, additional vocals by Becka Diamond
o Mastered by Paul Corley
o A delicate yet uncompromising set of songs drifting somewhere between Gothic, Ambient, Black Metal and Dream Pop.
Perhaps the most compelling of all the many projects started by one-time members of Wolf Eyes, Clay Rendering came to life in 2013 and have since released a trio of singles for Hospital Productions that have gained them the admiration of followers spanning both electronic and metal communities.
Their material occupies unique terrain, recalling The Cure's widescreen Disintegration-era instrumentals meets Cocteau Twins/Xmal Deutschland, cut through with a Black Metal palette and an appreciation of electronic music that imbues their production (notably assisted by Dominick Fernow) with an end-of-world quality that's impossible to pin down. Evoking Nine Inch Nails one moment, you find yourself in a smoke- filled, strobe-lit Road House the next; bleary-eyed, head spinning, coming down.
Guitar, Accordion, Piano and electronics underpin these songs, opening with the whirling death march of 'Maps on The Floor' and the funereal trudge of "Swallow The Century" before the grinding fuzz of "Sight From Up There" changes pace with the addition of a forlorn piano melody and Becka Diamond's distant vocal zooming in on half-remembered songs, rendered here with hazy definition.
"Fall Of The Bed" and "Memory Loses Momentum" find Clay Rendering at their most visceral and catchy; a reminder that they are first and foremost a band that write incredible songs, often submerged in fuzz and atmosphere, but here left exposed, bare, on display.
And yet the title track "Snowthorn", "River Without" and the incredible album closer "Night To Perish" edge the album from the bleak and into the sublime, turning away from the snowy landscapes their music so often evokes, instead pulling you deep into night...
Tracks: 1.Maps On The Floor 2.Swallow The Century 3. Sight From Up Here 4. Snowthorn 5. River Without 6. Fall Off The Bed 7.Patient Days 8. Memory Loses Momentum 9. Night To Perish

British producer Pris preps his sophomore EP for Avian. Love, Labour, Loss marks the Berlin-based producer’s second outing on Guy Brewer’s Avian label, and a further refinement of a production aesthetic that pitches caustic, heads down tool Techno & greyscale IDM against more meditative Ambient & Drone recordings. AVN026 tackles familiar themes, and the same low slung, deep-seated sense of unease found on earlier offerings, released via both Avian itself & Unbeknown To Us - the producer’s own outlet, winds its way in and amongst the work. There’s a lightness of touch to this most recent effort though, and experimentation with more overtly musical sequences proves fruitful, drawing on a previously untapped energy to great effect. The same goes for forays into more complex rhythmic structures - taught, processed percussion sits bright in the mix, working to generate an anxiety that is fast becoming a hallmark of the artist’s work. Whilst the material maintains a keen focus on the crushed, droning sonics that have come to characterise the label’s output, Love Labour Loss, is an impressive development - offering at once both a new dimension to the artist’s work, but also a congruent, streamlined addition to the Pris discography.

Avian's first release since absorbing its sister label Mira comes from Chicago based musician Connor Camburn under the alias Litüus, with an entirely beatless collection that well establishes Avian as the home for the kind of searching electronic experimentation that would have been found on the ten-inch focused imprint that Shifted recently announced would merge with its parent label. The EP follows previous cassette releases under the Litüus name for Brave Mysteries, Notice Recordings and Mazurka Editions and comprised entirely of real time single-take recordings on hardware instrumentation. Shorn of percussive elements yet not without their own rhythmic structures, Camburn's six compositions are free of immediate electronic genre influences and instead draw primarily on non-musical inspiration in addition to various other contextual reference points, as he sought to express ideas of the unraveling or "de-composition" of musical or architectural spaces through musical forms imagined as inverted contours and negative spaces.

Sigha returns to Avian for his first release of 2015, with a distillation of the processes that made up 'The Purification Loops', also released on Avian in 2014. Written shortly after this release, 'Techno Derivatives' continues its concept of rite, ritual and repetition, setting stuttered rhythm and synth work against a backdrop of low end hum.

Avian's 16th release is coming from Alessandro Cortini under the name Skarn. Best known for his work with Trent Reznor both in Nine Inch Nails and How To Destroy Angels, the Italian producer just recently made his debut on Hospital Productions with the hugely acclaimed ‘Sonno’ LP. His new project Skarn sees Cortini take a turn into more technoid driving soundscapes, which makes Shifted’s Avian label the perfect fit for it. The EP features three tube driven noise workouts with a precise minimalism and a hypnotic drum pattern, which leads the way through the release.

A year after their much-praised debut album STRGTHS, Avian's cryptic Swedish duo SHXCXCHCXSH are ready to present their second album, Linear S Decoded, this August. From the elegiac opener Entering The S-Cloud, the intensity of tracks such as Elocution and Rudimental Retreat, to the disorienting beauty of Wading Guise and aptly-titled closer Monolithic Conclusion, the LP deftly broadens the scope of SHXCXCHCXSH's singular aesthetic. Keeping their mystic aura has always been important to SHXCXCHCXSH - so important they didn’t want to take part in what they deemed 'the language game' until now. Their previous strict use of fragmented track titles illustrated an ideal of communication purely through music, to service the focus on sound via complete abstraction. Breaking the habit with Linear S Decoded doesn’t necessarily indicate a complete break with their approach, but an adjustment to the direction they have travelled since they first emerged two years ago. As Resident Advisor identified in a perceptive review of the previous LP, among SHXCXCHCXSH's key strengths is the imbuing of their productions with a narrative sense, a sonic progression that moves beyond techno's standard repetition - it's an element of their work that's heightened further on Linear S Decoded, pulling focus from the more grinding, brutalist elements of their distinct sound to reveal the more melodic, almost optimistic, elements that had previously remained in the shadows of the productions until now. The track titles themselves are evocative about the new record whilst revealing few specifics: no less intriguing than the clustered consonants of the prior release titles, hinting at deeper underlying narratives at play, possibly historically informed, or a fiction of the duo's own making. Either way, definitive answers will not be forthcoming: the mysteries that lay beneath SHXCXCHCXSH's approach to music making have long been an intrinsic part of their appeal. Linear S Decoded presents the opportunity for newcomers and those already au fait with the duo to employ their deciphering abilities, whilst simultaneously offering an expanded and ever more richly detailed landscape to traverse...

This April James Shaw follows last years caustic A Vision of Love project with a debut release as Sigha for Avian, blurring the lines between the dance floor and the ritual chamber. Over the course of six tracks scuffed rhythm and analogue bleed blend together, combining a techno aesthetic with something more primal. The tracks both lean on club tradition and abandon it, veering away from standard structure in places, in favour of fragmentation and prolonged repetition.
