The fouth and final limited edition Delicacies 12" this year is, in an slightly counter-intuitive twist, not taken from the forthcoming SMD album, "Welcome To Sideways". It didn't quite fit in with the flow of the track selection on the album, but we felt it really warranted it's own separate release particularly because of the ace Matrixxman remix. Both versions are driving, minimal techno, scattered through with melodic bursts but Matrixxman's LSD rework pushes the BPMs and frenetic energy to new levels.

For their third Delicacies 12" this year, SMD take a deeper, more spaced out approach, in contrast to the strict techno of the previous two releases. "Far Away From A Distance" features hypnotic synth washes that glide slowly in and out of time with the track's rhythmic bed, stumbling over each other in a 5am haze. "Flying Or Falling" pushes into classic SMD melodies, mournful Detroit indebted warmth spilling over the groove.
Guest remixer this time is the ever excellent Lena Willikens, delivering massive club fire in the form of her own much more minimal take on “Far Away From A Distance", stripping it back and only allowing the melody to intrude in the last third. SMD fans will note that the earlier naming convention of Delicacies has fallen by the wayside – for the simple reason that we’ve pretty much run out of weird and wonderful food stuffs to steal names from. Instead, a semi-random automated process has been used to create the track names.

First up is the double header of “Staring at all this handle” and “Sky on the floor” – a hefty statement of intent, harking back to their more austere earlier Delicacies work. In the same vein, remix duties come from ear-battering mainstays Perc and Volte-Face, both delivering uncompromising “take no prisoners” approaches to the originals. SMD have thrown in their own dub mix of “Sky on the floor” for good measure. Quite literally kicking mad new flavour in your ear, SMD are back with the 4th course in their recent series of Delicacies. After collaborations with Bicep and Cosmin TRG, and their own solo Tong Zi Dan EP, this new smorgasbord features two original tracks and a remix from techno man of the moment, Trevino. Kicking things off is Snake Bile Wine – a tipple enjoyed in both China and Vietnam, where the venom and bile from the gall bladder is believed to improve male virility, amongst other benefits – consuming the poison makes you a man, it seems.... Snakes are either steeped whole in wine, or the bile is squeezed directly into a glass. The track’s muscular and sinuous rhythm pulses, exactly like the still beating fresh snake heart served in a shot of saki as an appetizer in the classier snake restaurants. Snake Bile Wine comes complete with a side order of a remix from Trevino, the techno alter ego of Marcus Intalex. Remix 1 strips it back, dubs out the chords and bass and tops it off with a skittering hi hat pattern. Snake Bile Wine is out on 12” full platter on the 20th January 2014

Simian Mobile disco are back with more of the world's only techno tasting menu, serving up a a brand new platter for your delectation: Tong Zi Dan are the Chinese delicacy usually translated as "virgin boy eggs". Like the tea stained eggs you?ll find in your ramen, these are eggs cracked part way through the boiling process, to let the flavours of the liquid seep through. All though in the case of Tong Zi Dan, the liquid is the urine of prepubescent boys. Very much like that urine, the burbling pads and uric submerged melodies permeate the cracked surface of the smooth ovoid outer casing of rhythm. On the flip side, Mike Denhert delivers his own take on the virgin boy egg phenomena

SMD's new album, simply entitled "Live" presents a document of their world-renown, visceral live show. The recording here comes from Making Time in Philadelphia, from December 2012, A single, un-edited take, the live set features material from their entire back catalogue – including the massive "Put Your Hands Together", "Cerulean" and "Seraphm" from Unpatterns, "Skin Cracker" and "Aspic" from Delicacies, and brand new, updated for 2012 versions of "Wooden" and "Hustler" from their debut LP. The older tracks have gone through a considerable metamorphosis, and in some cases the only original parts that remain are the vocal samples. For those who have seen the live show, the round table and James and Jas occasionally manic runs around it, tweaking knobs to coax ever more warped sounds from their modular synth, this record captures some of that for posterity.

This EP collects four tracks from the same recording session as SMD's recent critically acclaimed album, "Unpatterns", that for one reason or another, didn't quite fit with the flow of the album order. Again we hear the band plowing the furrow of manipulating subtle modifications to machine generated patterns, allowing parts to drift and shift, and new forms to be teased out.
