michele - Disco Dance (Patrick Cowley Mega Mix)
2
michele - Disco Dance (A Tom Moulton Mix)
Massive re issue of this 1977 disco jam. Produced by the legendary Tom Moulton this is a bonafide classic. It really is all about Patrick Cowley's 13 minute plus 'Mega Mix' that goes off into the stratosphere (check from around the 6 minute mark for some mind bending out of this world production)... This is allegedly the first time Patrick Cowley used synthesisers and this mix is the blue print for his later remixes of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and Two Tons Of Fun "I Got The Feeling". If you've not heard this mix before or do not have this in your collection now is the time. Fully digitally re mastered from original reels. Re released in conjunction with Verse Music / West End.

One of West Ends biggest admirers is one of the UK's longest serving DJ's and editors, a truly legendary Northern selector who's unique reel to reel DJ sets and reworks has gained him fans worldwide and continues to do so. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Greg Wilson's West End versions, 4 tracks of unparalleled funk touched by the man himself who has also kindly supplied some choice words about this special release: "West End has a particular place in my heart. Along with Prelude, it was my main go-to label during the early ‘80s, an underground New York powerhouse issuing a relentless run of now classic and cult-classic club cuts during the time I was DJing at Legend in Manchester. For me personally, the label is forever connected with this then futuristic venue, West End’s progressive approach to dance music, incorporating electronic elements to play a key role in ushering in the Electro-Funk era, finding its perfect environment at Legend, with tracks by Stone, and especially the Peech Boys’ hugely influential ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’, providing major stepping stones. This is a project that holds a deeper resonance for me, given my personal relationship with the label, and I’m so happy to contribute to the series; the 4 favourites tracks I selected for this release illustrating West End’s best qualities – serious grooves and soulful vocals. The edit of ‘You Can’t Take Your Cake And Eat It Too’ by B.T. (Brenda Taylor) was originally featured on my first Credit To The Edit compilation, back in 2005, whilst Raw Silk’s ‘Do It To The Music’ was also edited around the same period, but has never been made available until now. ‘Keep On Dubbin’’ by Forrrce, although not as big as the other inclusions at the time, was an ahead of its time hybrid, mixed by François Kevorkian, whose dub awakening had taken place the previous year, and Shirley Lites ‘Heat You Up (Melt You Down)’, which draws from the instrumental ‘Melt Down Mix’, the version of choice at Legend, where dub and instrumental mixes often trumped the main vocal versions" A truly golden era of dance music history, all killer - no filler! All tracks featured re-edited by Greg Wilson and re-mastered, re-pressed and re-released with the permission of and in conjunction with West End Records, New York City / BMG. '

taana gardner - When You Touch Me (Instrumental)
NYC's legendary West End record label has contributed a fair few classics to the disco cannon and continues to influence dance music today with it's forward looking releases. 'When you touch me' is no exception, recorded and released in the golden year of 1979 and featuring the breathy, sensual vocals of a young Tanaa Gardner who had previously worked as a backing vocalist for numerous other projects until the label released her (other) stone cold solo classic 'Work that body' the same year on 12".
Both cuts featured on her self titled debut LP and boasted the combined production and studio talents of Kenton Nix, Bob Blank and of course - Larry Levan. Now, that's a serious line-up to have behind the boards (& in the clubs!) and of course 'When you touch me' was a classic with it's slow, elongated intro that calls to mind a sleazier version of Donna Summer's 'Love hangover' before launching into a full-on disco assault that you won't forget in a hurry! Yes, the record surprises you, Tanaa leads us into a false sense of a 'slow jam' and then - Boom - We're off! Backed with the incredible instrumental version the 12" is repressed here in it's original 1979 glory, an essential classic that has stood the test of time for the last 30+ years & is now available again, remastered & repressed for 2017 in conjunction with West End Records, NYC. The legendary West End Records kick off 2017 with the a brand new re-edits series inviting like-minded producers with an underground thirst and a deep understanding of house & disco culture to collaborate on a very special project. First up, Wolf Music man Medlar; applying his dancefloor know-how to West End’s rich archive of classic disco and boogie. Hand picking four personal favourites, Medlar reworks them perfectly for current club sets. Picking out dub sections and skilfully reworking & extending them proving exactly why Medlar has been such a draw to labels like Delusions of Grandeur and For Discos Only. “I put these edits together for myself and a few friends to play in our DJ sets. West End was one of the key stepping stones to what would later become house music and for many is the definitive sound of early 80s New York. I'd argue that it's aged better than any other label of that era and if you're relatively new to the label or know it inside out, the catalogue can likely still provide something new.”
These four sublime new edits from Medlar showcase his passion for digging deep, knowledge of house history and skills as a producer. More

Prodigious underground NYC producer Larry Joseph's Sparque project turned in a handful of classic 12's for West End Records & "Let's go dancing" is probably the most well known of all of them. All the hallmarks of classic West End are here, the futuristic production (1981!) soulful vocals & killer arrangements all combine with Francois Kevorkian & Larry Levans legendary mixing desk skills to give us this bonafide Garage classic that rocked dance floors from NYC to Chicago on it's release & still packs a punch today! This record is all about having fun, partying & losing yourself in the music, an essential classic that has stood the test of time for the last 30+ years & is now available again, remastered & repressed for 2015 in conjunction with West End Records, NYC.

Another classic from the West End archives! Forrrce's "Keep On Dancin" from 1982 was a huge record across the board from Bronx block parties to the Paradise Garage in NYC and DJ Harvey's "Moist" nights in London town, it's popularity was bolstered by a fierce Francois K dub mix on the B-side that stripped the record right back to it's most basic elements with a healthy dose of reverb assisted psychedelia thrown in for good measure! This killer cowbell led Boogie jam has always been a big hit with Disco freaks and continues to sound fresh some 30+ years later even making it's way into veteran UK DJ and music historian Sean P's "100 Boogie Essentials 1980-1984" list. High praise indeed! Re-mastered from original tape transfers, re-pressed and made available again for 2015 in conjunction with West End Records, New York City.

HUGE record alert! Possibly one of the rarest (and funkiest!) jams on the legendary West End label! "Touch Your Life" is an elusive beast, co-produced and mixed by Bert Reid (Crown Heights Affair, Empress) and steeped in low slung, spaced out electronic Funk, this 1982 release is surely one of the most sought after in the labels catalog. A slick quiet storm number featuring the ultra smooth, laid back vocals of the Millers backed with some serious synthed-out grooves, a real beauty of a track that will appeal to all Disco, Soul, Electro-Funk and Boogie heads alike. Both the vocal mix and the instrumental are featured here just like the original 12" release. This is the very first time this record has ever been re-issued in over 30 years. Don't miss your chance to scoop up a true rarity, used copies of "Touch Your Life" usually sell for above the £100 mark and don't turn up very often, if at all! This re-issue has been re-mastered from the original tapes and re-pressed with original label artwork in full collaboration with West End Records, New York city.

Sounds Of Inner City - Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman
Another killer, rare Disco offering from deep within the legendary West End Records vaults. Released in 1976 and mixed by the mighty Tom Moulton, this split 12" is one of the labels earliest releases and features two sumptuous, epic cuts from the initial wave of Disco 12"s. Both tracks featured heavily on the play-lists of various cult NYC Disco jocks, including Larry Levan, David Mancuso and many more. Jakki's "You Are The Star" is a deep, funky journey for the dancers, while on the flip side, the Vince Montana Jr. produced instrumental version of Sounds Of Inner City's "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" (A Disco ode to the cult 70's soap opera star) features. A long sought after 12" by Disco fans for many years, this release has fetched top collectors prices on-line in the past. Now it has been made available again, re-mastered, re-pressed and re-released in conjunction with West End Records and featuring all original label artwork.

"Just In Time & Space" is the dub mix on the B-Side & is a deep, soulful journey that taps into the veins of Disco, Boogie, Jazz-Funk & Dub in classic West End fashion, though this time the track is quite literally floating in space! A true late night, early morning gem. Still sounding incredibly fresh & contemporary, "Just In Time" is now available again, re-mastered & re-pressed in conjunction with West End Records.
