Delsin is pleased to welcome a true pillar of the contemporary techno scene, Answer Code Request, for his first EP in six years. As an integral part of the Ostgut Ton family since breaking through some 10 years ago, Patrick Graser has shaped a patient but potent discography which embodies the hybridised nature of techno in the 21st Century. His distinctive style of melodically embellished, subtly fractured body music helps define the contemporary zeitgeist, but it also moves with enough emotional maturity to stand on its own terms as compelling, artist-led electronic music. Arriving some four years after his second LP Gens, the Shattering EP opens in an especially exploratory mode as Graser teases elements of breakbeat and ambient techno on the spellbinding 'Resonate'. 'Shattering' finds a different palette through which to explore broken rhythms, leaning in on a heavyweight bassline injected with rave-wired distortion. There are more linear techno pulses to be found in the tunnelling propulsion of 'CRS-21', but in the interests of contrast the EP closes with the sparkling refraction of 'Sustaining Life', a floor-ready masterclass in electronica with teeth. Answer Code Request picks up where he left off with his album (Code, Ostgut Ton, 2014) and 12“ (Calm Down, MDR, 2015): With the Neume EP the Berghain resident offers three new tracks, meandering between restrained club contexts and brittle break beats, machinery and futurist soulfulness. The eponymous track “Neume” starts off on A with shuffling rhythms atop a heavy kick, soon caught up by first surging then predominant drone motifs, flashing bleeps and piercing strobe sounds. “Meta” on B1 clocks in instantly without any build-up: Its rhythm section sets the tone with broken beats while ACR slowly carves out more musical detail and textures: subtle command vocals from the machine room, swelling synth pads and other chilling, athmospheric means are subsequently being added until the track’s break where the emphasis shifts towards the kick, pads and synth melodies until the track’s sustained, smooth outro. “Vis” on B2 is the EP’s most protruding track: classic UK Garage shuffle rhythms and Amen breaks are contrasted by a funky kick and dreamful pads, intertwined with additional sparse percusion, layered with what in the first instance sounds like chirping birds but then like sparking wires. Answer Code Request continues what he does best: combining the warm human touch with chilled alienated aesthetics. More

After the "Breathe EP", his debut release on Ostgut Ton, his first long-player was not only a matter of time, but the next logical step. "Code" is a statement that coquettishly plays with the crucial question of electronic music – which tasks and perspectives a techno album should demonstrate – it also challenges current listening expectations. Even though the primacy of functionality seems to be engraved in stone as a paradigm, ACR turns his back on just a mere collection of dancefloor tracks. More

The first Answer Code Request EP on Ostgut Ton. Patrick Gräser has already caused a great stir with his recent releases for MDR and his own eponymous ACR label. His debut 12" for Ostgut Ton begins with "The 4th Verdict" and immediately shows clear direction. The hammering beats in sawtooth shape oscillate the sound of the track perfectly. The smoothly scripted pad and the eventual phasing-out of the broken beat complete the rest. "Ghostes" continues the clear-cut course with unparalleled sound. The combination of drums and dreamy synths creates a mystic mood fitting the title of the track. Phenomenally everything floats in perfect conjunction. The final track entitled "Breathe" ironically doesn't leave room for air. Instead a mighty synth expanse winds itself relentlessly through the song. The characteristics of it's sound salute a trance aesthetic and only when the beats cut out does the listener get a chance take a breath. More
