After the excellent ?Eternal Jazz? EP by Simone Gatto and Argenis Brito Italy?s The Flame Recordings, distributed by the bastion of quality output that is Diamonds & Pearls Distribution, returns with the ?Scirocco? EP by Santorini. Otherwise known as Andrea Santoro, Santorini has clocked up releases for Upon You and Little Helpers in recent months and as a result has established considerable support for his unhurried, modern deep house.
The ?Scirocco? EP leads with an eponymous low-slung houser. The groove is incredibly simple, consisting of solid drums and a rumbling and static sub, and the top line take two filtered chords and stretch them to the maximum. Intelligent use of the cut-off filter on the lead hook creates a fluctuating sense of aggression in the sound throughout. ?Summer In Salento? is an organic percussive track with bright piano chords layered with additional keys to accentuate the melody. Heavily filtered white noise sweeps help to create impact at transitional periods whilst the constantly evolving percussion draws in your attention with jangling percussion, hi-hats and shakers creeping in to keep it exciting. Lastly is ?Irene?s Groove? comprising of a pacey 909 style swinging groove and a Detroit techno sounding stab cleverly automated to echo wildly yet still managing to sit tightly amongst the other elements. Santorini?s less is more production is show off to it?s fullest here and the result is a superb, restrained EP of modernist house music. More

Long time unsung UK techno artist Aubrey is to release Gravitational Lensing, a first artist album since 2001 and his third in all. It lands in early 2019 on Out-ER and across 12 tracks it finds him getting more personal and instinctive than ever before with jazz, techno, broken beat and house all colouring this most coherent of musical adventures.
Aubrey s discography dates back to the early nineties, when he was a key part of the UK scene on labels like Solid Groove, Textures and Mosaic. Up there with the greats from Chicago and Detroit, he has turned out a steady stream of music that marries perfect dance floor functionality with real musical invention. Always inspired by anything deep with a good groove, everything from synth band Japan to funk king George Clinton, electro break beats to Jean Michel Jarre all inform his work.
As a DJ, he cut his teeth playing the biggest raves in the UK with names like Carl Cox and Eddie C having been swept up by the acid house records that hit English stores when he was just 15. Add in a love of jazz, ambient and US house, and you have all the eclectic influences that this criminally under-the-radar artist has drawn on for his latest album.
It is one that finds him really put his personal stamp on his sound. It s a chance to be more who you are and what you feel without pressure to conform to a particular sound, it s a chance to be free, says the artist of the album process. It was partially produced at Out-ER s studio in Nard , Lecce over the course of a year s worth of studio jam sessions, and is his finest and most cinematic work to date.
Things kick off with the ambient synth modulations of Aerglo Visible before exquisitely loose jazz drums and sci-fi pads suspend you in the cosmos on Floating to Rigel. There is an experimental feel to the off grid drums, rippling chords and drunken keys of Doctor Portia that keeps you brilliantly off balance, and the first deep techno trip is Journey To the Blue Planet , which has gorgeous ambience swirling over rolling, dubby kicks and soulful Detroit synth work. Carrying on through more lush, musical synth work and inventive drums, there are moments of heads down dance floor power and hi-tech soul, serene techno landscaping and chord-laced deep house that is superbly cerebral throughout the album.
In all, it makes for a complete and storytelling record that draws on a rich variety of genres and reworks them into something deep, multi-layered and hugely emotional that works as well in headphones, at home, as it will in the club. More

New Yorker electronic producer DJ Spider is back on Itay's Out-ER with a muggy, abstract techno release 'Human Erosion Field EP', similarly to its debut 'V EP', released in September 2017 and produced in featuring with his longtime friend Phil Moffa.
Italian label Out-ER presents its twenty-sixth release continuing to explore the diverse musical path between house, techno and experimental electronic - which appears in most cases on Out-ER's sub-label Pregnant Void. 'Human Erosion Field EP' otherworldly showcases both a radiant take on electronic as well as gloomy and wild-eyed pieces, an aesthetic approach for which DJ Spider has been most known in the scene. Overlooking to the style of the tracks, the release does contain a sinister mood and a dense, solid sense of groove overall, a typical recurring feature of the producer's previous outputs. More

Next up on Out-ER is Inland, aka Ed Davenport, an artist who has long been a friend of the label and whose powerful techno sound is a perfect fit. His three originals come with a remix by Tresor and Tiercel artist BNJMN. Inland has collaborated with Out-ER for some time now, contributing as a remixer and was involved in their events in Italy, Germany and Holland, from label showcases to workshops and panel discussions. He's released on the likes of Ostgut Ton, Nonplus+, and runs his own Counterchange label, which recently celebrated its 10th release. Up first is the perfectly driving 'R-13', with a concrete bass-end down low and celestial synth patterns up top. The train-track percussion locks in the momentum, while the beautiful waves of sine wave bleeps keep your heart and head closely connected. Flipping the vibe completely is 'Eminent Domain', a surging old-school indebted ride, with its hypnotic mutating synths, overdriven percussion and icy hats. It's a majestic track followed-up by 'Planitia', a more twisted modernist techno cut with turbulent synths wrought with tension and steel plated drums hitting hard. Glassy harnonic layers add colour resulting in an utterly absorbing trip. Long time friend BNJMN has a unique take on melody and texture in his work, proven by a series of excellent LPs and EPs on labels like Rush Hour, Tresor and his own Tiercel imprint. Here he flips 'R-13' into an eerie, loopy dub with slithering synths and distant bell drones fluttering in and out of the mix. The layered drums add real dynamism to this floating yet intense interpretation that closes out an EP of inventive modern techno. More

Italian label OUT-ER returns with a superb new EP from DJ/producer Alessandro Stefanio aka Buck featuring 4 tracks of deep and dubby techno… Southern Italian record label OUT-ER, or Outelectronic Recordings to give it its full name, has rapidly established itself as a new bastion for quality electronic music with its superb singles to date from some of Italy’s finest, including The Analogue Cops, Luciano Esse and Santorini. Now the imprint looks to another Italian production heavyweight Alessandro Stefanio AKA Buck for it’s latest release ‘The JVSB EP’. Buck has been releasing quality techno for the last 5 years with labels such as Safari Numerique, Alphahouse, Little Helpers & Motivbank. As a DJ he established himself playing at Italy’s key clubs before taking his sets to the world at venues such as Watergate, Weekend, Tresor & Club der Visionaere. In 2011, along with a group of close friends he launched the OUT-ER label. ‘The JVSB EP’ kicks off with the nattily titled ‘STFLSN78/M0’, a deep, rolling machine groove with a clear Detroit / Basic Channel influence. Heavily delayed stabs and skittering percussion ride alongside understated melodic elements to create a hypnotic and trippy track that is truly sublime. The second A- side track ‘18978##’ takes things down a slightly tougher and more stripped road and delivers a record that is certain to twist heads in the early hours. The B-side kicks of with ‘JREVENGE’ a unique sounding record that manages to fuse elements of techno, old school house and broken beats to superb effect. This is an instant winner that is certain to have appeal across musical genres. Finally we have ‘A New Session’ which sees Buck drop an intense synth laden groove over tough rolling drums and bass, quality stuff. Italy has a strong and ever evolving techno scene with some highly respected labels, but it has to be said there is something very unique about the approach of OUT-ER and with just 6 releases under their belt they are already a label not to be ignored.

Berlin-based Out-Er returns this March with Simone Gatto’s, ‘Motherland’ EP, comprising four original cuts from the Italian producer.
Since its launch Out-Er has delivered underground house and techno of uncompromising quality, with original work and remixes from the likes of The Analogue Cops, Luciano Esse and Santorini. Tipping its focus towards the dub aesthetics of electronic music and embracing records instilled with attention to detail. Title track ‘Motherland’ opens the release here; a heady Techno cut employing warbling synth lines, rumbling low-end tones and punchy drums to create an ever-evolving, hypnotic record. Next up is ‘November’, taking things deeper with ethereal pads and shuffling 909 drums, drenched in reverb to add a cavernous atmosphere hidden in the depths of the track. Entering the B-Side of the record we have ‘They Are Watching Us’, the track relies on a hooky progression with a leading synth stab carrying the melodic movement, while subtle nuances such as filter sweeps, reverb bursts, and elongated delays paint the bigger picture. To close the release Gatto turns in ‘Scorpion’, an off-kilter broken number, featuring crunchy drums, disorienting resonant tones and an arp-style acid hook that further fuels its mesmeric, alluring vibe.

The hotly tipped Out-Er label returns with a superb new single from Andrea Santoro AKA Santorini, featuring 4 tracks of deep techno and broken beat electronica…Italy’s Out-Er label has made quite an impact in its first year, dropping stellar singles from the likes of Analogue Cops, Luciano Esse as well as two standout various artists EPs. The label has received support from Djs as diverse as Craig Richards, Ben Sims, Tazz, M50 & 2562 and has received critical acclaim from the likes of DJ Mag, Resident Advisor, De:Bug & Raveline. Out-Er’s musical outlook has been extremely open with an emphasis on quality techno and post dubstep electronica and it’s in that vein that Andrea Santoro takes up the mantle for his latest single ‘The Smooth EP’.
Andrea Santoro has previously recorded under the Santorini moniker, releasing single on labels such as Luna, The Flame and his own Recycle Records, whilst away from the studio he is a highly respected DJ who has been behind the decks since the late nineties. This latest single sees Santoro offer up four brand new cuts, kicking off with the excellent ‘A Good Swell’ which journey deep into dubby techno territory with a wash of pads, rolling percussion and an incessant off kilter bassline. Following this we have the brashly titled ‘Fuckin Bullshit’ which takes things into intense techno territory alive with tape delayed synth stabs and skittering drum patterns. On to the B side and things open up with ‘Freezing Depth’ a stripped and deep techno workout that builds around a pulsing groove that is simple yet hypnotic. The final piece of the puzzle comes in the shape of ‘I’m Fool’ that sees Santoro fusing elements of techno and dubstep to create a raw and mesmerizing track is a perfect closer for this superb EP.This single is another slice of pure quality from Out-Er and is also the first to show off the label’s new artwork featuring macro photos of everyday objects, enjoy.
