Release no.2 on nofitstate sees Matthew Styles taking over the reigns; the 'Signals EP' is a varied beast as you'd expect from one of the most distinguished and versatile producers of the last couple of years. 'Signals' kicks things off, a beautifully effortless flowing groove with on-point percussion and subtle elements that keep things moving perfectly. 'Lucky' keeps the vibe nice and deep, a razor sharp snare imbuing the track with a sense of energy whilst 'Codex' leans toward melody with it's pitch perfect arpeggiated motif dominating proceedings. 'Gesopik Console' rounds the EP off nicely with a nod to nu-disco energy.

With the Metro EP we're finally offering a full solo release by Matthew Styles on Ostgut Ton, accounting for his consistent productional finesse, especially with his original track “Liquid Sky” (on Nick Höppner's Panorama Bar 04, 2012) and his 'Dub Mix' of Dinky's “Planes” (on Ostgut Ton | Zehn, 2015). “I’ve never worked on a sequential set of songs that came out on the same record,” Matthew commented on this 12“. As with his productional approach in general, the Metro EP has a certain timelessness: “One piece is from 8 years ago, one from 3 years ago and another from around the time of the recent birth of my second son. I’ll leave it up to the listener to guess which is which.” The eponymous “Metro” on A is an elated seven-minute, trippy, meandering analogue synth exploration in House and Cosmic Disco. “Wave 6” opens the flipside with a simple yet beguiling melody: 6 notes dancing completely beatless in 5/4 time, meandering repetitively and escalating towards a blissful – yet only anticipated – climax. “Border” on B2 is a solid addition to the long history of Dub Techno – smooth, steady, super layed back, but also offering many colorful melodic elements.

A true unsung hero of the underground house community, Matthew Styles is an effortless producer and faultless DJ, making him the perfect regular at the likes of Panorama bar in Berlin, and putting his skills as an engineer in demand for many luminaries. A decade ago he was at the helm of Damian Lazarus’s Crosstown Rebels as its first label manager, steering it through some of its most successful releases, and he has since made his footprint as a producer in his own right. On his debut EP on Crosstown the tracks move from the solid, big room sound of ‘Clandestine Emotions’, into the layered beats and bleeps of ‘Wrong Move’, through to the classic break-beat of ‘Avon’ and gentle elegant bass-lines of ‘Sleepless’, Styles proves he can master any style and keep his authentic sound embedded within it. Firmly schooled in the history of dance music as a DJ, Styles’s father was a disc jockey and long time member of DJ culture pioneers DMC, instilling in him the age-old tradition of moving a crowd with music. From a recording career on esteemed imprints such as Running Back, Ostgut, Classic and Rekids, and regular appearances at clubs such as fabric, Munich's Bob Beaman, Concrete in Paris and the aforementioned Panorama Bar, Matthew’s priority has been intrinsically placed with servicing the needs of a dance floor.

As a long time label ally, it seems ridiculous that Matthew Styles hasn’t previously had a release out on Classic. Previously releasing on like minded imprints such as Running Back, Ostgut Ton, BPitch and turning mix albums for Crosstown Rebels…Classic are proud to initiate Matthew back into the family with this new three track EP.

The return of Matthew Styles for Running Back (check his Sample & Hold EP for his psychic powers) sees the Berliner-by-choice immersing in his very own world of h-music, where Tony Humphries thrones next to Ricardo Villalobos and with enough room for all the wonderful chums in between. Not embellished by any ideologies, nostalgic coryza or a lack of ideas, Styles serves three prime cuts with gravy sauce: "Montana" is a floating piece of break-beat science fiction house that gets backed up by ferocious bonus beats; "Hot!" is exactly that with a twist on a historical bass line, infectious vocal snippets (check the loop in the run-out grooves if you cannot get enough of them) and perfect timing; while "Sixty Ways" makes use of Dinky's vocal skills and the everlasting question about the nature of love. The essence of taste! More

Englishman Matthew Styles is a special one. Firmly schooled in the history of dance music as a DJ, his productions usually carry a uniqueness that cannot be located in time and space - a little bit like what Courtney Melody tried to put into words with his 'Modern Girl'. Styles' debut for Running Back is his first solo release in a long while and ticks all the niceness boxes: straight up house with 'Don't Call Me Again' that works itself up in a frenzy, the rough and ready 'Scale' performance without a ruffle, 'Polee' and its irresistible melody and last but not least the percussive and bass-heavy lunacy of 'Galaxy 21'. Yee-haw! Styles for days! Already played by _______(insert your favourite DJ here)!

London based producer Alex Around has been a mover n’shaker on the scene for sometime now and looks set to further his upward trajectory with this meaty 3 tracker on Geddes’ nofitstate label.. ‘Diffuser’ is a subtle groove with a blissed out touch whilst ‘Homespun Wisdom’ opts for a deeper tripped out route. Djebali provides the remix of ‘Diffuser’ on the flip, toughening up the drums to lend the track a houser edge.

Label head Geddes’ releases his first full ep on nofitstate with Suzie Boo’s dark room presence headlining proceedings, German collective ‘Snuff Crew’ step up on remix duties, injecting a grimier sensibility on their take whilst flip sides Baby continues the darker theme, this time with an acidic tinge which Alexkid locks onto in his remix which rounds off the release, making the 303 the theme of the track with Josh Caffe’s vocal refrain adding a hypnotic bent.

nofitstate return with four tracks from hot talent A1 Bassline whose reputation has been building of late from a succession of releases for the likes of Dirtybird, Get Physical and Gruuv amongst others. Here ‘Hidden Agenda’ finds the young producer in true devastating form; skippy percussion, a nod to the UK’s garage scene, vibes the track along nicely whilst the bass does the damage. ‘Burnt Out Piano Island’ delves deeper, acting as a neat counterpoint to the more main room ‘Agenda’. Here the style is much more nuanced with a more hypnotic leaning. ‘Outsider’ picks up the pace against, albeit in a subtle, uplifting vibe with warped pianos and razor sharp percussion. ’T Moe P’ rounds things off nicely with a moody bassline driven groove.

nofitstate chalk up their 3rd release with the much talked about Swedish duo Mr. Tophat and Art Alfie providing ‘Vretis’, an elongated groove fit to bursting with tension thanks to its extended filtered intro. ‘Locked Groove’ provides the remix on the flip, opting for a more blissfully melodic approach for those early morning sessions whilst ’Takelant’ rounds things off in fine style with a low down and dirty slice of machine-phunk.
