Continuing a busy 2013 after Ultramajic's inaugural release "Hot Inside" as well as debuts from the elusive Aden and Creepy Autograph, Jimmy Edgar returns to his own occult-inspired Ultramajic imprint with the Mercurio EP, three tracks of throbbing sampladelia as undeniably robotic as they are irresistibly funky. Ultramajic has lofty aims, uniting Edgar's twin passions for ritual magick and meditation while focusing on developing new artists and a new personal sound. Having just wrapped up a summer of touring his collaborative JETS project with label partner Travis Stewart aka Machinedrum, Mercurio suggests a restless energy honed by enthusiastic crowd response to the martial beats. The title track "Mercurio" is a flurry of competing crescendos and fractured vocal samples over a bulbous bassline. "Qlinda" is equally celebratory, utilizing microtonal shifts in the stereo field and exuberant sampling before morphing into a half-time ooze. "Ultraviolet" highlights Edgar's special skill with modular synthesis to craft an electro-tinged jack, machines on the edge of collapse. With artwork by longtime collaborator Pilar Zeta, Jimmy Edgar continues to play with new age philosophies and esoteric inspirations in the deluxe, hand-crafted packaging for the label's releases.

“Let Yrself Be”, the second single to be taken from Jimmy Edgar’s critically acclaimed Majenta, tells the story of, in Resident
Advisor’s words, a “nomadic sex fiend” gone clubbing. Two of the album’s more brazen house cuts are the focus, evincing an artist
as adept at catering for dance-floor and DJ as he is for the home-listener.
The title track is a beatific cruise through stabs, chords, claps and slaps to a place where ’90s house meets garage vocals, shutters
are raised and everyone dances happily ever after. “Heartkey”, on the other hand, shows a starchild at his sultriest. Chugging along
with electro swagger and vocoder charm, his claims to be “the only one with the key to your heart” are hard to disbelieve. Lock up

After a two-year break, Detroit producer and wayward star-child Jimmy Edgar debuts on Scuba's Hotflush Recordings armed with an album full of futuristic sleaze. Known for his unique take on jacking house and electro funk, he's recently been splitting his time between the US and Berlin, exploring transcendental meditation and the boundaries of the non-physical. marking a shift in his own ever-expanding consciousness, as well as another exciting chapter of his musical career.
Each track is an aural manifesto, giving well-deserved nods to his varied musical influences. Close encounters with Detroit legends
Derrick May and Juan Atkins, Jimmy's 2004 signing to Warp Records, and his early exposure to Kraftwerk have all acted as lynchpins
in the cultivation of his sound. With a number of releases on Glasstable, Semantica, Nonplus and long player releases on both Warp
and !K7, Majenta reflects Jimmy's evolution as both artist and child of the cosmos.
According to Edgar, the making of the album was steeped in countless synchronicities, continuously reminding him he was on the
right path. In contrast with his last LP, XXX, for !K7, which took five years to make, Majenta is more raw, more spontaneous and in his
words, "more futuristic … than my other music, which played a lot with retro, especially R&B."
From the outset, Jimmy's flexing his Kraftwerkian muscle, with vocoder complimenting his own unadulterated voice and ‘80s
synthlines bubbling away alongside jazz-funk keyboard riffs. From the raunchy and sexually explicit 'Take Me on a Sex
Drive' ("windows down, legs up high") to the low-lit, hypnotic feel of 'Attempt to Make it Last', to the UK garage rhythms of 'Let Yrself
Be', to the Kiss-era Prince vibe of 'I Need Your Control', it's clear that the postmodern is Edgar's domain. The Frampton-esque
vocals of 'In Deep' close out the LP and further cement his enviable place in the intergalactic community.
Spring/Summer 2012 will see Jimmy playing a number of live shows across Europe and the US in support of Majenta (including major
festivals such as Glade, UK), as well as his continued exploration into the world of LEDs and synchronized light technology.

Detroit based multi instrumentalist Jimmy Edgar brings his unique electronic vision to Items & Things for the label’s keenly anticipated fourth release. Edgar’s versatility is well documented with influences ranging from jazz, funk and R&B through to Chicago house and of course Detroit techno. For this outing he puts his distinctive R&B tinged electronica to one side, laying down some timeless acid house grooves that pay homage to the founding fathers of the genre. The sublime techno soul of the title track Funktion House kicks off the 4-track EP with sweet chord stabs and laid back laser sweeps dominating the intro. A gentle yet infectious background melody that’ll pull bodies to the dancefloor like bees to honey completes the summertime vibe with each element effortlessly evolving as Edgar applies subtle ring shifts and delays to the down tempo groove. The tension gradually builds with some acidic tweaks eventually emerging to complement the squelchy bassline but the track never loses sight of its soulful origins, keeping the floor ticking over and soothing the collective spirit in a wash of old school nostalgia. Dark acid tones abound on Young Thing with its dirty, scratchy vocal parts posturing over a sparse, razor sharp 808 groove in a return to the days of Phuture Fantasy Club and Fast Eddie’s Acid Thunder. The nervous tension resonates back and forth between the liquid acid and the pitched down vocals creating the perfect late night dancefloor moment that’ll turn the most innocent of clubs into a heaving sweatbox, maintaining the high standards and left field agenda set by the label’s previous three releases. The beats get nasty as another of Detroit’s next generation, Thrill Cosby aka Seth Troxler goes to work on reforming Funktion. The mood is relentless from the off with another twisting acid line accompanying a host of peripheral bleeps, efx and reinterpreted retro synth stabs from the original version. The groove pushes forward urgently, cloaked by freaky pitcheddown vocals that repeat hypnotically into a full-on electro funk breakdown that disorientates and seduces in equal measures. Edgar’s own acid remix of Funktion offers a more toxic take on the original theme. It’s raw, stripped down with urgent snare rolls, machine gun claps and cavernous reverberating vocal efx. The jacking bassline becomes embroiled with the splayed hi-hat pattern before a complimentary second bassline fleshes out the sequence. The powerful acid rush continues to ebb and flow, teasing the floor constantly before he finally drives it to point of climax, tweaking the controls to oblivion until the track dissolves into a sea of delay.

Earlier this year saw the launch of Jimmy Edgar's Fabriclive 79 compilation, and within it oscillated the robotic undertones of Submission - the latest collaborative project between Ultramajic and LA native Truncate (aka Audio Injection). Coupling Truncate's aptitude for mechanical DJ tools and Edgar's chunky synthetic elegance, Ultramajic will showcase the Submission EP on November 13th. Submission's machine-gun hats, dissected by crunchy thunder claps, lay foundation to the clockwork repetition of an overbearing artificial intelligence. Truncate's rework applies generous reverb for a more dense spatial distribution, whilst Edgar retains the track's original minimalism, sparingly peppering additional synthetic tones over the top. Movement is then created in Kris Wadsworth's rework, infusing textures and synthesis for a more evolving composition.

Jimmy Edgar’s blossoming Ultramajic imprint gets off to a typically brazen start in 2014 with an EP of fiercely visceral club music from US born, Berlin-based producer Danny Daze. A self-confessed lover of classic electro, the 3 tracks present contain the mechanical aesthetics and skewed sonics of the labels he holds close to heart, whilst packing an undeniable punch that will see these drawn for time and time again. Released on 12” vinyl and digital, Daze is the first in a whole slew of acts to be welcomed onto the roster over the course of the year, and marks another exciting chapter for the burgeoning label.

With the exuberant 'Hot Inside' EP still ringing clearly in the consciousness of revellers across the world, Berlin-resident Jimmy Edgar hands over the reigns of his newly-minted Ultramajic imprint for another vivacious outing to launch the 'Metaphysix' series, a concept that was developed alongside long-time creative partner Pilar Zeta. As Edgar goes on to explain, "reality is based upon thought systems and this is the core of music and vibration, each chapter of the series we will give these ideas to the artists for them to interpret in any way they choose." The inaugural edition finds two producers working around the theme of Mentalism, defined most simply as "The All is Mind, The Mind is All; the Universe is Mental". The elusive Aden commences proceedings, with two claustrophobic cuts steeped in dub-techno sensibilities that have already garnered support from such established figureheads as Boys Noize and Scuba. On the flip, credits belong to Creepy Autograph, a rotating group of Detroit natives whose members were once all involved with the enigmatic Dopplereffekt project, as vocalists. Here, they're on rambunctious form, providing two jacking cuts imbued with salacious intent and oozing chrome-plated cosmic funk. Featuring collaborative artwork with Pilar Zeta that explores Edgar's interest in ancient magic and new domains of knowing, it equates to a truly immersive experience, and one that assures a fruitful future for this tantalising concept. http://www.tailored-communication.com/release/metaphysix-i-mentalism
