Edward delivers his latest collection of works, the ‘Eddie Green’ EP via Smallville Records this July,
comprised of four originals.
For the past decade and a half, Frankfurt-original Gilles Aiken, better known to most as simply, Edward, has been
unveiling his productions regularly via the likes of his most regular home Giegling, but also Baby Ford & Eon’s
Trelik, White, Die Orakel or DFA, plus teaming up with Ricardo Villalobos in 2020 for their Disordered Rhythm
Metronomy project on Perlon. Here though, we see Edward mark his debut for Smallville Records, a fitting home
for his deep, dynamic and hypnotic style which regularly blurs the lines of House, Techno and beyond.
Up first is ‘Primal Dream’, a raw and reduced journey through modulating synth flutters, squeaky percussive
twitches and a bumpy, robust rhythm section. ‘Blue Glue’ follows and diverges into a more mystical sonic world
with haunting chants, resonant synth licks, meditative chimes and ethereal textures intertwined with crisp, crunchy
drums.
Title-track ‘Eddie Green’ opens the B-side, embracing a more dubbed out, deep techno aesthetic via murky chord
swells, clattering organic percussion, throbbing low end pulsations and vocoded spoken word vocal lines. The
aptly title ‘So Slow’ then rounds out the release, dropping the tempo and shifting focus Edward’s more jazz-tinged
influences with wandering piano melodies and soulful vocal chants uttering the track’s title, underpinned by
shuffled drums and waves of sporadic oscillating synth.

Mystical dreamweaver Edward has previously brought out some of his classiest club-tooled gear for Trelik, with 2018's Rumours EP being a particular highlight in his glittering career in minimal. Breaking a protracted silence for Baby Ford's label, this new three-tracker once more takes us into the unique atmospheric zone Edward occupies with his productions. 'The Giver' has an unnerving, desolate quality but it's also rock-solid in the rhythm department, with subtle threads of warmth to balance out the eeriness. 'Memory Motions' is a spicier cut with a pronounced house jack to propel a tense set of sonic motifs, with a special mention to the wobbly organ-like chord line. 'Tuned' is the most upfront of all the tracks, using some processed piano hooks and a full compliment of nagging, funkified ingredients to make a certified, if left-of-centre, party starter.

Die Orakel long time collaborator Edward gracefully reappears with a three track emission called Time Stretch. Edward’s appliance of the titular technique is not restricted to various sonic elements at all, as it extends to the tracks’ mental notes and their trajectories beyond the digital realm.
Time Stretch fills the entire side A with vibrant sonic elements, a warm bassline along an eerie pad, all on top of a straight and punchy bass drum. La Grotta’s signature melody, plus chirps and cowbells, inject a slight touch of exotica to the musical meta-data, while time stretch artefacts refer back to a befittingly themed EP. Finally, the undercurrents of Black Sea evolve along a modulated melodic pad, a pulsating bass and beat structure, and a light 90s IDM morse figure on top of frequency sweeps. More

Edward makes his first appearance on the legendary Trelik label with three tracks of reduced, refined and utterly psychedelic house music for the witching hour. Gilles Aiken has been prolific since first emerging more than ten years ago, initially releasing his otherworldly jams through White before joining the Giegling contingent. His acclaimed Desert Sky alias has been an outlet for more experimental fare on Assemble Music and PAL SL, but as Edward he offers up a distinctive take on minimal house and techno that matches studio flair with warmth and personality. From the meditative sunrise lilt of "Mikko" to the uneasy machinations of "Sehhr", this record finds Edward at the top of his game crafting utterly workable club tracks for adventurous souls.

Edwards 2nd album "Into a better Future" accompanies you for hours, makes you forget that daily grind. It is serious encouragement of movement, telling you to get away from the thick mess and find your way onto a proper highway. You'll pass machines along the side of the road, engaged in a process of construction while your hands feel clean. And once in a while you'll hear the sound of sunrise and sunset racing each other in a tight rhythm.

Sometimes things in life never occur as planned. So it happend to Edward aka. Gilles Aiken, when the berlinbased artist was looking for a new apartment. Somehow he found himself moving to a very small fairy tale-like village called "Teupitz" in Brandenburg, Germany. It was there were Edward rediccovered his deep love for nature and silence. With long extensive walks along the Teupitzer lake he got to the bottom of his true love for house music. Within the silence he could still hear a distant pulse of basslines ringing. And after release for Giegling, Blooming Soul and WHITE it was time to make the next step. With all the nature surrounding him, he finally felt able to get all the music out. Music which ended up as his debut album, simply called "Teupitz".
