No More Hits artist John Devecchis, launches Instinkt Recordings this April, with the ‘Find A Way’ EP, comprising three original cuts and a remix from James Barnsley. York-born, now based in Australia, producer and DJ, John Devecchis, launches his brand new Instinkt Recordings imprint this April, delivering up-front house music pertaining to peak-time dance floors and the afterhours, and with a release out now on the reputable No More Hits imprint, alongside the likes of Nicholas and Simoncino, It’s safe to say he has an attentive approach to sculpting sounds, as well as creating and scoping out tasteful, elegant house music. The release opens with title track ‘Find A Way’, taking on the format of classic deep house, with crunchy 909 drums, warm string melodies and a bulbous sub-bass line. Devecchis chops up an amalgamation of female vocal samples and crafts them into enticing hooks, while organic piano chords progressions further fuel the musicality, and bubbling percussion drives the movement of the track subtly in the background. Get Physical, Catwash and Safari Electronique artist, James Barnsley, steps in to rework ‘Find A Way’ next, stamping his signature hypnotic house mark on the original. Barnsley opts from rolling toms and shuffling snares in the drum programming, while dubbedout vocals and warbling chords create and expansive atmosphere. Opening the B-Side of the release is ‘Gonna Be Right There’, maintaining the classic feel of the preceding track with bright synth chords, swinging drums and spoken word vocal lines. The focal point of the track introduces a cosseting pad lines, which falters in pitch and evolves with intermittent drops for the remainder of the cut. Closing the release we have, ‘Ask You’, an apt choice to wind things down as Devecchis takes things even deeper. Smooth pads and hi-strings lead the way, while raw, natural percussive lines drive the energy. This is an outstanding debut from Instinkt Recordings, and a good indication of what’s to come from this promising new Australian label.
