His radio show Deep Space Helsinki (Alongside Juho) developed into one of the cities most popular club nights and also into his shared record label DSH. His debut on Nonplus brings us 3 slices of no nonsense deep space techno.

Samuli Kemppi may have begun in warm house climes as the duo Sam & Gigi, but he has since found his niche and fame sound tracking the deep and icy black recesses of space. 2009's Komisch debut, 'Deep Space Helsinki EP', birthed the galactic signature that would come to define his solo techno output for labels like Prologue, Mote-Evolver and Perc Trax, meanwhile cementing his stylistic meanderings to a single, albeit flexible, narrative. 'Parallax Of One Second EP' is Samuli Kemppi's third outing on M_Rec Ltd, after the full 'Cyclic Model EP' and remix inclusion on Ben Gibson's 'More Than Milk', and sees the Fin plundering the astronomic theme once again with stellar sci-fi precision.
On the A-side: 'Extragalactic' opens with swirling technoid vistas, on a wonky robo-dance floor in a future imaged long ago. Warbling chimes and tweeting astro-creatures continue to plague 'Astrometric Precision', bleating at one another on our serene shuttle through the cosmos. The B-side then takes a decided plunge with tougher piston sounds and grittier textures on 'More Than Parsec' as our journey becomes more wild-eyed, concluding in the keyed radio-distress signals and itchy hats of 'Less Than Planck'. I guess we're never getting home wherever that may be, but this new universe isn't so bad after all. More

With a techno career stretching nearly a decade, Finland’s Samuli Kemppi is a natural choice for the fourth edition of THEMA’s continuing Chronicle series. His intensely rhythmic, futuristic style has been making its mark across Europe since 2004, but it was really four years later, when he was picked up by Ostgut Ton, Prologue, and Kosmisch, that the world found out the true impact of his sound. Since then he’s enjoyed his strongest support from the last of these imprints and, even more importantly, from Luke Slater’s powerhouse Mote-Evolver, a go-to since its inception in 2006 for the freshest sounds techno has to offer. Following the summer launch of his own Deep Space Helsinki label, we are proud to announce Kemppi’s Chronicle debut with Voyager, an EP of deep, science fiction sounds backed by intense beats. Characteristically for the producer, there’s no waiting to unleash the barrage of elastic basslines and layered percussion we receive in Transmission. The steadily-thickening synthesizer textures grow throughout its length, but so does the density of the drum patterning; it makes for an unstoppable catapult launch into alien territory to start the EP. A2 Horizon is more grim and heads-down, an exploration of the cosmic void between galaxies which gradually falls into accelerating orbit around a distant body. B1’s Beacon may move similarly, but it starts with a clearer trajectory and a more hopeful end point in keeping with its title. His signature busy drum machines are at their most linear and smooth here, and rather than disorient the listener they provide propulsion for the mission. The unforgiving rhythmic jack of Echoes has strong gravity, and an optimistic melody gradually swells from uneasier beginnings to finish the voyage. To ease down listeners from the depths of this dense EP, we’ve included an ambient interlude as the closer; starting off with sci-fi themes, it disintegrates into a haze of woozy echoes and rhythmic bursts of static before simply fading into the ether. Taken together, these five pieces clearly chart the continuing outbound path of Chronicle and Kemppi to the interstellar regions of techno’s growing universe.

Finnish techno producer Samuli Kemppi returns to Komisch for his third release. Leading the charge against malfunctioning computer systems and faceless corporations on this killer three-track EP is ‘Escape’. A surging, rippling bassline and heavy claps provide the basis for insistent bleeps and a surging, enveloping chord sequence that dispells even the most malevolent enemy. Next up is ‘Hostile’, which follows a similar approach. Clipped drums and hissing percussion are mixed with an acid-spiked bassline and a sinister synth riff. It’s a more sinister take on Samuli’s big room techno and is sure to appeal to those who like it darker and deeper. The EP ends with ‘System’. Kemppi’s razor sharp percussion and tough beats are audible once again as he juggles bubbling acid bass licks with frequency-shifting tones and eerie synth riffs. Let ‘Quadrant’ help you escape the mundane realities of every day life!

The BALANS roster is growing evermore internationally with fresh Moscow signing Nphonix. The Russian producer made big waves in the global Drum & Bass and Dubstep scene, but is no stranger to juke, acid and techno as he proven on previous releases. His different background provides him with a fresh angle on classic techno, pushing the envelope for the genre in a manner we love. For the Benway EP’s title track, a coop with fellow Russian producer Apobothra, the term ‘monster track’ is an understatement. The slow, careful build up doesn’t prepare the unweary listener for the wall of sound that’s yet to come. After the drop Benway evolves into a relentless tornado, destroying everything in it’s sonic path. Black Acid and Nebrakada on the flip are have the same sonic signature, but are more trippy by nature. Both tunes reveal Nphonix dubstep background 135-140 bpm tempos, without losing any of their funk through pulsating bass grooves.

We welcome UK’s rising star Jordan Peak on board for his first fully fledged techno release. Jordan has been making waves ever since his entrance on the international circuit in 2011 and with releases on Bass Culture and Robsoul a.o. his future is looking bright. Last year he started his own imprint Rogue Society, a label focused on music on the borders of house and techno. Jordan’s first steps into purist techno territory appear more like giant leaps. All four tracks sound like he is been making techno tunes for years, an extraordinary display of his talent. Black Paint kicks of a funk fuelled groove accompanied by modern day dub stabs and fx programming. Follow up Crocodile Tears brings memories of early Slam/Soma records to mind, updated to 2014. On the flipside you’ll find 2 dark, hypnotic groovers. Relentless in their pace, both with catchy melody lines that’ll stick in your brain for weeks to come. Another fantastic BALANS debut

Sometimes we get handed a demo from a totally unknown producer that instantly blows us away. That’s what happened when Dars’ brother send us the link to ‘All Is Tainted’ last year. The deep brooding darkness, offbeat bassline and droney sounddesign got us hooked within a few seconds. That’s all you need sometimes. Before we could put the record out, more tunes were needed. Dars got in the studio and came with 2 more amazing tracks that follow the same dark atmospherics as All Is Tainted. Conflicting Principles Of Behaviour and Revolutionary Feedback showcase the amazing talent of the Rotterdam based philosophy student and will mark the start of a fruitful collab between the debut artist and BALANS. If you love your techno deep, dark and ultrahypnotic you won’t be disappointed.

Don’t we all love it when artists hide behind a mysterious alter ego? Don’t we jump on the chance to unravel these kind of secrets? We have got one for you right here with our new release. Cadans is the super secret techno alter ego of a very well known and respected Drum & Bass//Dubstep producer. We have known and followed Cadans for many years and are very exciting to get to release the first EP of his new endeavour. All 3 tracks have been road tested extensively by labelboss Darko Esser and now finally will be documented on precious wax. Basically it’s a triple A-side record. Fix, Samsa and Millian are all peaktime, stripped down industrial machine funk monsters. A trio of bassheavy battle weapons wich will leave any dancefloor in shatters. We have got a stunning debut lined up for magical number 10. Amsterdam’s Stefan Vincent will release his first BALANS twelve by the end of April and we are really extremely excited to unleash these 4 gems into the world. Both Conflate Four and Five are about as trippy as it gets, reminding us of the golden 90’s era of psychedelic Detroit and Berlin techno. But with a distinct Dutch flavour off course, think Steve Rachmad under his Ignacio monniker. Washes of synth arps are getting all the room they need to breath, expand and contract thanks to the ultra minimalistic grooves of both tunes. Stefan showcases a different side of himself on ‘Fool Me Again’ and ‘Welder’. Two downtempo, electronic, ambient cuts. ‘Welder’ embraces futuristic synths and abstract, alienating sounddesign, while ‘Fool Me Again’ is Detroit melancholy at it’s best: try and not get goosebumps.
