In the summer of 1989, when Trip City was first released with a soundtrack by A Guy Called Gerald, there had been no other British novel like it. This was the down and dirty side of London nightclubs, dance music and the kind of hallucinogenic drug sub-culture that hadn’t really been explored since Tom Wolfe’s The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Maybe this is why Trip City is still known as “the acid house novel” and an underground literary landmark. More

For a number of years now, A Guy Called Gerald has largely made music only for
himself. But this special EP is borne from Gerald’s unique and long-lasting
friendship with Analog Room founders Mehdi Ansari, Siamak Amidi and Salar
Ansari. They first met in 2013 when Siamak booked Gerald to play his Analog
Room party in Dubai – a leading underground light in the UAE’s then emergent
scene. Away from the glossy VIP hotels and expensive bottle service parties
typically associated with Dubai, Analog Room only deals with quality bookings of
the caliber of Move D, Roman Flügel, Moritz Von Oswald and the likes. Gerald
immediately fell in love with the party. Its strict music-first, no-nonsense policy
appealed to him and he’s returned many times over the years.

By then, of course, A Guy Called Gerald’s musical legacy was already assured. The
Manchester icon is best known for his 1988 hit single Voodoo Ray – the
touchstone of his hometown’s dawning acid house scene. As well as being an
early member of 808 State, Gerald embraced breakbeat and jungle, ran his own
Juice Box Records label and worked with the likes of Columbia, Perlon, K7! and
many other vital labels. His skills on everything from synths to keys, samplers to
drum machines stood him apart then – and still do today.

“This release is based on a real friendship,” Gerald explains. “I feel part of the
Analog Room family. Back in the early days, that’s how it was. These days, it’s like,
‘Oh, you’re famous, let’s do something.’ I’m not interested in that. I’m not
interested in being a celebrity or living that life. I’m the same as I was 30 years
ago, all I care about is the music. With Mehdi, we have spent hours jamming in
private in Dubai, we have partied together. We’ve vibed together for so long and
he’s shown me new parts of the world I should be making and playing music in,
away from the trendy scenes in other places. So this is an exclusive just for him.
I’m not looking at doing anything else with anyone, and the music is just about
celebrating individuality rather than trying to fit in anywhere.”

When Iranian-born Mehdi decided to start Moozikeh Analog Room – which
translates from Farsi as “the music of the Analog Room” – Gerald was one of the
first artists he asked to release on the label. It might have taken some time for
Britain’s Dirty Little Secret to materialize, but boy it’s been worth the wait.

Says Mehdi, “The magic comes through proper relationships and friendships.
That’s why Analog Room worked. It was a great room, an amazing sound system,
with amazing artists doing their thing. Bookings were so on-point because we had
agents around the world, on the dancefloors, spying up artists who were killing it,
and Gerald was one of them. He was a perfect fit from the first gig and our
friendship grew from there. He’s always been very kind to me. We have this
common language of music without any bullshit, and that is where this EP comes
from.”

The EP is a mixture of different things. Some of it is unreleased material from the
vaults revisited, some of it is brand new. It opens up with the devastating Old
Skool – a writhing, physical track with naughty bass. The drums hark back to
Gerald’s early days of making jungle but reimagined through a modern
perspective. As the synths spray about the mix and the percussion bounces atop
the jostling drums, muttered vocals draw you in deeper. Sugoi is an experimental
track that fuses ambient synth design with the spacious and eerie atmospheres of
jungle. Nimble drums get you on your toes as the spangled synths twist and turn
in all directions. It is a thrillingly original, impossible to define track.

Flash Fight is built on a captivating rhythm that sits in the area where house,
techno and jungle intersect. It is warm and cavernous, physical yet elegant as it
bounces on rubbery kicks and lithe synths roam in and out of earshot. Perfect for
those sweaty, cozy back rooms, it’s another masterclass from Gerald. Closing out
the EP is False Religion, a deep-rooted house track with elastic drums and
haunting, wispy pads. As a subtle acid bassline rises and falls way down below,
Gerald’s own mystic whispers leave listeners hypnotized.

Following on from Analog Room co-founder Salar Ansari’s debut release on the
label, this EP is a statement of intent. More releases will follow from some of
Analog Room’s most frequent international guests, but only when the time is
right. Moozikeh Analog Room is a label of love, one that is focused on putting out
the best possible music at all times rather than chasing hype.

Bosconi Records Presents Datafreq’s Electrifying EP: “Circuit Garden” Toronto’s electronic music scene luminary, Dave Rout, known as Datafreq, is set to unveil his EP titled “Circuit Garden” on Bosconi Records. With a musical journey as Datafreq spanning 2 decades, and a continuous presence since the mid-80s, he has become a cornerstone in the electronic music scene in Toronto. “Circuit Garden” is a six-track collection that pays homage to Datafreq’s distinctive blend of video game music and electro sounds. A true sonic pioneer, he brings forth his unique musicality that has resonated since he started the project in 2004. This EP features select tracks from his debut album, “Fun for the Whole Family,” originally released in 2006 on the esteemed Berlin label Das Drehmoment. Notably, these tracks, (never before available on vinyl with the exception of “Just Like 1981”), have been reimagined with slight remixing, editing, and remastering to seamlessly align with the vinyl format. Two brand-new tracks make their debut on this release, adding an extra layer of exclusivity and elevating the EP to a truly special status. The unmistakable “Datafreq” sound is prevalent throughout the EP, characterized by eclectic electro techno and vocodered tunes. The first track is a mesmerizing progressive house tune with a future retro hi nrg bass line and a hypnotic dreamy arpeggio worth of the early 90’s italo techno & house heritage, in the style of artists like Mystic Force, still with a contemporary attitude both in the house groove and in the sound choice, truly uplifting! “Trail Of Bones” is a badass ravey jam with a crazy and prominent fat bass line going all along the track, inspired by some old school acid trance aesthetics with a funkier feeling
On the flip side “Nove Code di Cristallo Grigio” sounds like an intergalactic trip to some other techno galaxies lead by uncoordinated synthetic structures. “Gattonero” closes the ep with its quirky mood, essential and with a bouncy groove that makes it a super efficient tool for the floor.

A long and awaited return to todays scene is that of Gareth Oxby, a very active producer since the 90s with numerous Techno, House and Breaks projects among which the prodigious UK label Alien Funk Movement stands out; of which he is the renowned father and founder. Bosconi is proud to include this eclectic and talented producer in its stable through one of his most sought-after aliases, "4th Planet Side Steppers". The EP, titled "Warning", celebrates the UK sound of those early years of which he was one of the greatest exponents and pioneers and which is coming back to prominence today: the foundation of the Tech-House sound, a kind of hybrid dense with spatial and futuristic sounds where electro, dub and breakbeat that merge into the 4/4 rhythm creating a unique and incomparable blend. It starts with the homonymous "Warning" track, where sharp drum sounds support a galaxy of alien bleeps and textures, transporting you into a pacific trance state, a maze-like and hypnotic dimension that is perfect for late night hours or morning awakenings. The second cut of A side brings a previously released track on Gareth’s own AFM label which has been for long time our secret DJ weapon named "Anti-Matter", a funky, rolling, ultra-groovy monster track; an absolute Tech House killer tune with straight and unmistakeable effects on every dance floor we have played. On the flip side the dreamy, sensual and trippy "Phaeton" closes up this three track EP with its smooth vibe and intelligent electro programmed warm beats giving a special touch to the whole record! With no need for further introduction, the legendary Cleveland and now Berlin based producer Dan Curtin lands on Fabio Della Torre’s Tuscan label Bosconi with 2 previously unreleased gems from his 90’s DAT archive. The release is further enriched by Curtin's very first live rework of one of the tunes. After Releasing on such labels as Headspace, 7th Sign, and Sublime and with the recent repress of his historic Silicon Dawn album on Peacefrog including the supremely modern Population 2, here comes the previously unreleased Population III which moves even more forward into the outer realms of space and time. On the long side the farsighted and futuristic Metamorphic label boss delivers this marvelous continuation of the previous version taking it more into straight forward techno and even further into deep minded synth experimentation and acid bleeping. On the Flip we have a modern live rework of Population III which Dan has been playing around the world in his current live set. The live version goes a bit more into electroid landscapes but still maintains a straight groove for electro and techno purists most playful moments. The third cut is the epic acid banger and previously unreleased Redshift, showing already at those times that Dan Curtin was defying conventions and pushing boundaries and pioneering what we can now consider modern dance music while displaying melting innovation and deeply felt emotional content at the same time.

Unforgettable are his early releases “Bosconi Groove” and “Paris,Texas” which gained a great success, especially thanks to the track “72 Minutes Of Scrubs A Day”. After many years of studying in consevatory of electronic music and improving his already exceptional skills within music production and composition, between a freaked out IDMish album on his own Wo Land label, releases with Herva on Kontra Musik, Marmo Music with the Tru West- The Leftovers projects and the Nightdrivers records with Rufus, the prodigal son is finally back with an edgy four tracker of pure anti-romanticism named “Ears In My Eyes”: the record starts with the perlonish, groovy and funky minimal house jam of Marmeria Mornings feat Vash (collaborator at Marmeria Studios in Genova and well known synth repairer in Italy), while on the second cut there are the sexy, electroish and ultra catchy SH101 bass line riffs of the title track “Ears In My Eyes”. On the flip side instead let’s get back to some swinging beats with the trippy and mysterious atmospheres of “Marmeria Nights” while on the final cut more electro with another flying, rough and subliminal machine funk winner to close up this release called “Aria Fredda”. It’s been a long awaited one!

After “Theory Of Strings (part1)” Ennio Colaci and Fabio Della Torre present the second part! The first track of A-side is the one who gives the title to the whole project, " Theory Of Strings", a dubby groover with a funky and psychedelic feel in the vein of a more coloured and dirtier Studio 1 or Soundhack. The "Feeling good vibe" keeps going relaxed and chill with the smart up and down mood of the track "Forty Degrees" while on B side Minimono get drier, minimalistic and more mysterious with the subtle after-hour jam of Rewind. This strong effort by Fabio and Ennio ends trough the cinematic atmosphere and the romantic piano notes of the gentle but raw closing act "Still Mine". Mind the Strings!

Following the well acclaimed comeback on Bosconi "Gang of Fools EP" and the releases on Robsoul and Vibraphone, Fabio Della Torre and Ennio Colaci aka Minimono strike again with a double release that might be considered as a split album in 2 vinyl records named "Theory Of Strings".First of two Eps starts with the chuggy, jazzy and edgy vibe of "Get The Groove", an intelligent partial rework of an underground disco-not-disco old gem. Second cut gets more funky-filtered, bouncing and suspended with the fresh broken atmosphere of "Back in Dc" .On the B side Fabio and Ennio go back to jazziness adding more broken grooves, some twisted rhodes solo goodness and a persistent hypnotic driving feel to the track "Actually", and then ending this first part with another smooth filtered and toolish winner for the summer called Meningi. Fabio Della Torre's Bosconi Records is back with another release by homegrown artist Rufus featured this time by a remix from the now established talent from the Bosconi nursey Herva. Just an year after his latest "Black & Blues EP" released on sister label Extra Virgin, the Florentine but Berlin based producer this time delivers on the main offshoot some tougher and more sophisticated sound textures, quite different comparing to his previous works, within his new "Stranger In Paradise" 5 tracker vinyl: A side begins with the hypnotic and rolling funky breaks of "Stranger Than Paradise", a dreamy and ethereal banger delighted by a heavenly melody floating all along the track. The second cut consists in definitively more outrageous, psychedelic, infernal atmosphere, intermixed by horny and thoughtful whispering vocals which characterizes the afro-tech funk groover and indecently named track "Slave Of Pussy". On the flip side instead Rufus goes deeper and weird with high filtered grooves and wonky bass lines within the sneaky jam of "A Mirage" , getting then slightly more classic deep-styled on B2 with the gentle laid-back mood of "Sleepy Song". We are finally happy to end this release with the return of another homegrown Bosconi artist, recently releasing also for labels such Planet Mu and Delsin, which is Herva, who drops a not conventional but extremely forward thinking ethno-idmish/broken-beat re-interpretation of Rufus original "Stranger Than Paradise"
