Whilst mystery continues to cloak the artist Sawf, there's nothing clandestine about the Greek's bold and inventive take on techno that has been accruing on Perc Trax over the last few years. Pushing the label's industrial founds to new and unexpected heights, records to date including a particularly versatile debut full length, 'Flaws' have seen funk infusions, disco undertones and gritty ambient interludes all nestled amidst a splay of low slung to full throttle and barefaced floor material one has come to expect from Ali Wells' stable. After a pretty quiet year, marked by a solitary release for new label Modal Analysis entitled 'Sand EP', comes the first new work for M_Rec Ltd, 'Skotos', backed by remixes from modern Berlin bastions Milton Bradley and Henning Baer. Once again looped vocal stabs take the lead in Sawf's original version of 'Skotos', guiding us through plied atmospherics together with soft, seductive pulsework with unhurried poise over a charged nine-plus minutes to finish in shady inconclusiveness that leaves you begging for more. On the B-side Milton Bradley offers a toughened up and industrialised remix complete with cranky mechanical misdemeanours, while K209 partner Henning Baer patches the space between with rumbling basement bass, vocal overlays, dry hats and rough edges to round off the EP More

Noor1 is a duo consisting of Zevla and ANFS, which made its debut appearance on the first Vanila compilation from 2019, "ear". Their return here is in the form of an album, hosted by the LP series of Athens' Modal Analysis (MALP02). A.Psi.Mi includes 4 long recordings of Zevla's and ANFS impressions of industrial/noise soundscapes meeting the aesthetics of ambient/experimental. More

The 10th Modal Analysis release is the second full EP of the label?s co-founder, ANFS. Mass EP demonstrates ANFS unique sound aesthetics, offering tracks to satisfy the most demanding music-heads. Mass#1 is a sadistic composition of distorted percussions and basslines hitting hard in a slow rhythmic groove , while Mass#2 stands closer to the dancefloor thinking norms, without though leaving behind any of the creepiness of Mass#1. On the flip side, Mass#3 brings back the mood of a horror movie soundtrack, with bleepy riffs on the leading sequence. Finally, Mass#4 is another rhythmic industrial composition, which connects Mass EP with the traditional eastern influences that can be found on ANFS debut release; Ground EP. More

The seventh Modal Analysis release comes from Athenian producer and DJ, ANFS. Following his remix for Kondaktor’s Signal #1 , ANFS returns to the label with his debut release, “Ground”, a four track EP which consists of original material. Borrowing sounds from early twentieth century folk Greek culture, the EP is dominated by a rhythmic canibalistic spirit and a noisy distorted cue. Ground #1 functions as an introduction, or rather one’s initiation to the mystic rituals that prevail. The artist uses drones and distorted textures which increase in Ground#2 and are backed up by drums that beat in a hard-and-slow ethnic tonality. Ground#3 reveals a paroxysm of emotions which comes as a result from the combination of basslines and vocals that create a complex and twisted vortex. The trip ends with Ground#4, a more stripped down monotonic ensemble that serves as an epilogue and a catharsis.

Kondaktor, the Athenian producer who made his debut last year at Further Records, releases music for the sixth Modal Analysis record. Signal EP includes two original tracks Signal #1 and Signal #2 which were created through the manipulation of field recordings, that are structured as a collage of sounds delivering a deep and claustrophobic sensation. On the other side of the record, Sawf and ANFS construct two versions of the tracks taking a more industrial and rhythmic approach to the existing works.

‘Bow EP’, the 5th Modal Analysis release, delivers two cutting-edge techno tracks from the Manchester-based duo AnD, as well as a remix by Russell Haswell. Bow #1 and Bow #2 highlight the distorted broken-beat style that AnD specialize in. Completing the record is Haswell, who displays his own harsh, rhythmic noise aesthetic with a decomposition of Bow #1.

Two years have passed since his release at Sandwell District and after his remix contribution to Sawf’s Sand EP, Belgian producer, Yves De Mey, returns to Modal Analysis with a two-track EP. The first track allures the listener to an abstract heavy sound, whereas, the second track follows a more distinct rhythmic structure. Both tracks create an atmospheric environment with the use of modular sounds. The EP wraps up with a Shifted club remix of the first track. More

After a very promising debut Modal Analysis strikes back with its second release, from The Exaltics. The mysterious electro master with releases on Creme Organization and Bunker delivers two original tracks for MA to fulfill all expectations. Node#1 and Node#2 are mind-twisting tracks suitable both for home listening and club use. The EP finishes with a killer dance-floor remix of Node#2 by Delta Funktionen.

Modal Analysis is a new label born in Athens, Greece and devoted to experimental and conceptual techno. The first MA release Plate belongs to Cassegrain, the Berlin/Thessaloniki based duo with recent vinyls for Prologue and M_Rec. The two tracks, “Plate #1? and “Plate #2,” designed for long trips on the dancefloor. Coming from Berlin’s legendary Raster-Noton label, Kangding Ray completes the debut with a suspenseful remix of “Plate #2.”
