Merak EP by Sev Dah marks the debut release on the Berlin-based label Dust in Grooves. Heavily influenced by the grit and zeal of Berlin, Detroit, Birmingham, and, his own, Sarajevo, Sev Dah unleashes his distinctively punchy and deviously structured spheric sound across this 4 track EP.

Opening with a stomping dancefloor tool that sets the energy high with playful and nostalgic loops, "Audio Grape" showcases the dynamic range of the techno proletarian. The dexterity of "Butter Knife" cuts intensely through the air with unexpected tones and drums, evolving into a steamy big-room journey made of sinister spins all the way through.

On the B side, "Dense Fog" permeates the space with a thick grip, softly engulfing all the senses in a labyrinth of sound, steadily building up anticipation with gleaming pads and elevated melodies as the story unfolds. The final track "Meraki" glistens with cold, robotic, fast-paced beats, roaring with otherworldly chords, like omens from the dystopian future, and melancholic subtlety that leaves a feeling of bitter hope.

From start to end, the EP Merak is an expression of the thriving and techno-revolutionary spirit of Sev Dah, crafting powerful narratives through a minimalistic approach. As a founder of DIG records, Olivia Mendez aims to bring precisely this signature sound, and a dedication to vinyl culture, which puts Dust In Grooves at the forefront of the contemporary techno scene. Nihad Tule created a forward-going shaker with the "Marija Bursac" remix while Skugde closed the A side with his dreamy remix of "Lisina" in his style.
On the B side Nihad Tule took again the challenge and reinforced the sounds of "Kozarcanka" into the more mystical vibe. Stanislav Tolkachev rounded up this remix series with a spacey and experimental rework of "Kozarcanka" with new patterns and moods to make this release suitable for every taste! Komisch goes back in time for the story behind its fifteenth release. Alpha Code is the project of a Milanese producer who was inspired by the emerging techno scene in Italy during the early 90s. Seeking to translate the mind-bending sounds of Lory D, ACV and Sandro Galli, he bought some basic equipment and started to experiment. But just as he was about to start releasing techno records in 1996, he was offered the chance to script a small film in Hollywood. That job saw him moving to LA, where he now works full-time as a soundtrack writer and producer. By chance, on a recent visit back to Milan to see his parents, he was going through some belongings and found some dust-covered demos from early 1996.
Inspired by the raw techno sounds on the demo, he returned to his studio and created 'Brave New World' and 'Kazohinia', two driving tracks that resonate with insistent analogue bleeps, firing percussion, swirling synths and brooding bass pulses. This is the first time that Alpha Code's music has been available on vinyl and Komisch is proud to put out tracks by one of Italy's past masters.

Finnish techno producer Samuli Kemppi returns to Komisch for his third release. Leading the charge against malfunctioning computer systems and faceless corporations on this killer three-track EP is ‘Escape’. A surging, rippling bassline and heavy claps provide the basis for insistent bleeps and a surging, enveloping chord sequence that dispells even the most malevolent enemy. Next up is ‘Hostile’, which follows a similar approach. Clipped drums and hissing percussion are mixed with an acid-spiked bassline and a sinister synth riff. It’s a more sinister take on Samuli’s big room techno and is sure to appeal to those who like it darker and deeper. The EP ends with ‘System’. Kemppi’s razor sharp percussion and tough beats are audible once again as he juggles bubbling acid bass licks with frequency-shifting tones and eerie synth riffs. Let ‘Quadrant’ help you escape the mundane realities of every day life!

Following his release on Peter Van Hoesen’s Time To Express late last year, SP-X drops his third EP for Komisch. Fans of ‘Signal Path Experiments’ and ‘Field Lines Never End’ will not be disappointed as the Brussels-based producer serves up three more slices of uncompromising warehouse techno. Lead track ‘The Escape’ has all the SP-X hallmarks - rock hard beats, thundering claps and a swinging groove that underpins eerie riffs and clanking metallic drums‘Stalker’ reveals a more musical slant to SP-X’s sound. It starts off with unsettling riffs, but soon the rolling drum-led arrangement changes tact and provides the backdrop for a growling chord climax. There is a similar concession on ‘Attack Pattern’; bruising doubled-up drums and that unmistakably snappy SP-X percussion combine with subtle snare rolls to create a peak time arrangement. But once again an insistent chord sequence gives it the edge over functional techno. Make sure to hunt this killer release down !

With releases on labels like Ostgut, Time 2 Express and
Prologue, the Finnish producer is one of the leading lights
in the new wave of European techno. Samuli gets straight
down to business on ‘Orbiter’. Based on chugging,
insistent drums, the listener is led to a place where
repetitive droning sounds, pitched up percussion and
robotic bleeps dominate. If ever there was a soundtrack
lose your mind to in a dark room, then ‘Orbiter’ is it. ‘Metal
Space’ is more considered, but it’s no less effective.

Komisch is a new underground label covering the broad
areas of techno and house music, run by the elusive DJ
Komisch. Primarily aimed at the dance floor, the label,
whose name in German means ‘strange’, ‘unusual’, ‘odd’
or even ‘unconventional’, will nonetheless aim to showcase
and support new approaches to electronic music. Working
with upcoming European producers as well as more
established names, Komisch will focus on teasing new
sounds and ideas from techno and house that’s rooted in
Chicago, Detroit and Berlin. The label will put an emphasis
on high-quality design, mastering/production and vinyl,
something that is often lost in the so-called digital
revolution.
