Nico Purman, - Blow My Mind
2
Nico Purman, - The Bubble
Nico Purman returns to Vakant with his most technoid record since his 2009 VA025 Euphrasia EP. A cut 'The Bubble' reveals the direction Nico is taking with this EP. Contemporary techno with a classic touch and the distinctive twist that is characteristical for Purman's works. B-side 'Blow My Mind' slackens the pace a little bit and gives room for more trippy yet groovy moments on the floor later in the morning. Mind bending.

Info:
In the spirit of 1960's and 1970's futurism, when tuned in musical explorers developed avant-garde music that reflected Man's newly expanded frontiers temporal and beyond, Berlin based Argentine producer Nico Purman brings us AOM002 on his label Art Of Memory. Themes of exploration, new horizons, and a deepening appreciation of our place in the expanding infinite are the concepts Nico evokes with AOM002. Evolving and maturing
from functional dance tracks of his past, Purman defines a deep expanse bound only by the imagination of the listener and their openness of mind. Bass moves the soul while synth and space free the mind from earthly confines, lifting off from A1 and leaving you in orbit with D2.
Conjuring the workflow of vanguard pioneers, Nico employed the same analog tools and limitations of his New Wave science fiction driven forefathers. Purman succeeds in channeling this deep reservoir while carrying their torch, evolving their lessons with modern eyes, ears, and consciousness. To label Nico's AOM002 as techno would be tantamount to calling Kubrick's "2001" a film or the Saturn V merely a rocket. All are much more than that. They are manifestations of ideas, art, and technology that transport the mind and signal the rise of a new understanding as constraints and boundaries fall. They collectively intend to incite wonder, leave terrestrial confines, and urge you look up at the night sky to wonder ever farther, ever deeper. The late 1960's and early 1970's gave us 5 years of moon missions, the first view of our lonely blue dot, the inspiration of math and science, and New Wave science fiction. From this vaulted era Nico seemly pulls to create AOM002, seeking to reinspire us to reach for the stars and welcome the new reality they bring.
AOM002 is a conceptual release splited in two parts.

Tracklist 12" Vinyl: A. Logan's Dream - B1. Labyrinth B2. Arp
Lying somewhere between New Order, Arthur Baker, and Giorgio Moroder with the benefit of modern ears, Argentine export and Berlin mover\shaker Nico Purman continues to shape his ever evolving vision of sound with his new label Art of Memory and its debut release AOM001. Carrying the momentum of his recent EP's such as Visions on Vakant (VA036) and Fade Away on Crosstown Rebels (CRM086), Nico drops perhaps his most expansive and melodic work yet drawing on influences from decades past to produce something both new and honest to former eras. With nods to New Wave, Techno, and a dusting of Space Odissey, AOM001's 3 tracks (+1 digital exclusive) bring both the lush musical synth textures of Purman's electronic forefathers with modern low end motivation of deep bass and tight rhythmic production. The resulting tracks that comprise AOM001 express pensive, moving, deep ideas of an electronic yesterday with an unrestricted vision of tomorrow written and shaped by the minds of talent like Nico Purman's.

The ever evolving ever inspiring Argentinean turned Berliner musical talent that we call out Nico Purman, once again honors the House of Vakant with his latest disco inspired offering to the Gods entitled Visions EP. In such a short period of time Nico has come so far both physically and meta-musically. Within just a few releases one can easily hear him developing, maturing, and mastering his chosen art medium. From the mechanical tech funk of his Tuesday EP (VA017) and Euphrasia EP (VA025), to the space jazz masterpiece that was Rhapsodies (VA032), his first
step toward disco was in fact with his contribution ‘Xpress Yourself’ to the Family Values compilation (VA034). With Visions EP, once again Nico effortlessly transgresses whatever style he wishes and makes it his own. Taking a few pages from the book of disco as well as a touch of Chicago
and a pinch of early New York house, Nico both tips his hat to those influences as well as taking things several steps further to create something completely original. More

Nico Purman, our Argentinean (soon to be Berlin based) drumline captain and all around groove slinger is back for his third instalment on the marching band in the sky that we call our Vakant home.Purman’s sound continues to evolve, covering truly large distances with every release. Since his robostrobe inspired earlier Vakant works Tuesday EP (VA017) and Euphrasia EP (VA025), Nico drops 3 large-and-very-much-in-charge space jazz masterpieces that he fermented in what sounds like a midnineties New York house basement. First up is ‘Why What’ where Nico sets the free-flowing rhapsodic mood that covers so much ground with one track. Starting in what sounds like Tenaglia’s beloved Chelsea, the track slowly moves uptown landing at the Blue Note where Rollins, Monk, and Roach sit in on the session. ‘Funk Forest’ follows with more pep and less mood. Upbeat and popping percussion blend with Rhodes while a diva whispers in your ear until late seventies Hancock shows up with his synth and brings the hands way up. ‘Chamomile’ finishes the EP off in style. Moody while maintaining the jazz feel, “Chamomile” peaks with futuro baritone sax and piano in unison. Smooth and steady all the way.

Who said techno isn’t seasonal? Summer’s ebullience must invariably lead to winter’s depravity. Short days, collapsing economies, and assorted mavericks have set the mood for the return of Argentinean
Nico Purman, our winter cycle heavy hitter, with his second EP on Vakant since last January’s Tuesday EP (VA 017). A-side ‘Euphrasia’ is your very own space tourism trip minus the Soyuz-FG rocket and associated $25 million price tag. Are we going to make it to the International Space Station? Will we break up in the upper atmosphere? Will there be a FSB agent waiting for us in the ISS? All good questions. Nico’s got the ascension covered here, complete with drama, apprehension, and aerospace wizardry. B1 ‘My Own Band’ provides reassured relief after finally docking with the Pirs module only to find a
bunch of inebriated astronauts complete with hydroponics and atomizers. Space is indeed fun and full of love and melody. With B2 ‘Da Roots’, Nico proves once and for all that there are indeed Africans in space, and they probably spent a considerable amount of time in Chicago. ‘Da Roots’ jacks as robustly as a solid Kazakh Steppe landing. Plump and stout, Nico’s B2 celebrates earth and space at once with feet firmly on the ground staring back up yearning for the next ride. More

To give his poor soul some credibility, we’ve enlisted AQXDM (Aquarian & Deapmash, fresh from their storming debut on Bedouin Records) and the mysterious Maenad Veyl (Veyl, Pinkman, Death & Leisure) on remix duties.

Infotext:
Consistency and a diverse but functional aesthetic have kept Berlin based record label Vakant ahead of most imprints operating in the same space. Having released records since 2004 they have focused on working with only a select number of artists as they believe this is the only way to endure in a scene which is susceptible to trends, with Premiesku being part of the family as well as the likes of DeWalta and Avatism. Having already released a highly successful EP on the label in 2014, and more recently being a part of the labels latest anniversary compilation, 10 Years Vakant, the Romanian trio return with a driving four track EP. This EP features catchy melodies, vivid emotion and driving, floor-focussed percussion, which consists of three original tracks as well as the ever-dependable Varhat stepping up on remix duties. One of Frances most exciting exports, Varhat has already released a string of impressive records on labels such as Mulen and Howl. His interpretation of 'Cu Balans' brings a signature sound which portrays a lighter more bouncy feel to the track.
Premiesku which consists of Livio & Roby and George G are a Romanian joint alias that have been releasing and performing together for over nine years. Their widespread influence on the flourishing underground scene is no secret, their innovative live performances, and constant flow of cutting edge productions remain one of their nation's leading lights in the field.

A rough yet refined release, unassuming in its effort, Thomas channels both his previous solo work and his CW/A project into a tightly wound package with 4 solid cuts. Various influences converge yet a straight line is etched for all to follow. These are up-front, hard working tracks. Body Music with an undercurrent of breakbeat. Vakant comes back with a very special release from an unknown group of creative entities. Three cuts of tribal space techno weaponry aimed at the dancefloor. We have received a message from entities lost in between the stars in the vacuum of interstellar space. The transmission was encrypted in an ancient code we were able to translated into frequencies understandable to earthlings. A psychic telegram has been sent to us, activating the body and the mind, divided into aggregations of codes that form three tracks of straight in your face, high-octane fueled, acidic tribal techno, riding on solid bass lines, trippy synths, shiny percussions and abstract ambiences.

It's not a simple thing to write about your own tunes. Your concept is innate, the music itself is in your mind and comes out as a natural flow, talking about it is a different thing. This time I wanted to come up with something different for my new EP on Vakant. Something unexpected for the ones who know Cesare vs Disorder's sound. I wanted to make a few tunes that reminded me about those lost feelings of the 90s, when electronic music was made not only for the clubs but also for the soul and the mind, not directly for a purpose but as a natural answer to time and space. After the classic "orientation" battle with head-honcho Alex we finally agreed on these tunes "Vortex" and "Unreason", one I would say more spaced out and heavy orientated, the other almost resembling those Electronica times when I really enjoyed flying with my brain and my emotions.
We finally also agreed to add a couple of remixes of Vortex by Romanian rising star Cristi Cons and Italian talent Fango. They both delivered unique stellar interpretations and I am happy to present the project to the world.

Info:
After first performing together at Sonar Festival with what was essentially a live version of our respective "B.O.A.T.S." and "Adamant" albums, Thomas and I decided to expand on these ideas for something more broad and improvisation-centric. After months in the studio drinking nothing but amaretto and working on new music for this purpose, our new live experiment (now simply called CW/A) was ready. The reception on these shows was so (thankfully) positive that Vakant eventually pressured us into releasing some sections as tracks. "Conducting the Method" is nothing other than a sample of what this new project is about: a collection of three excerpts taken from this year's performances. To round things off, we invited over our friends Dead Heat for a reinterpretation of one of our tracks. We can state with confidence that we are excited these tracks are no longer confined to our club and festival performances and can't wait for everyone to hear them. Hopefully you will enjoy them as much as we enjoy playing them out.

Info
Sitting down and writing about our latest EP was a fun but challenging exercise, we scratched our heads and this may sound bad but we couldn't think of deep, dark interesting stories on how we made these tracks or what they represent. These jams are simply a combination of previous and random happy accidents that have come together and saying anything else would be a lie. This however does not mean that the thinking behind them is completely random, the three cuts that we selected for this EP we feel are a journey of experimentation and a culmination of unexpected sounds and feelings. A word that we found best described the EP was 'Irony'. The most ironic thing we feel is that the main basis of these tracks were born on the stage during our live performances and they have now been reworked and moulded into a record. We however feel that this brings an interesting element to the EP that yes it is recorded and set, but you are not quite sure where the next sound or feeling will come from. A hi hat? A kick? It is pure 'organised randomness'... I suppose we should talk about some of the music and try and explain what we mean! We start with 'Pe dos', which in plain English means inside out and it was a track that we had started back in 2011. We were flicking through our 'curiosity closets' one day and found it, we played around with it and heard a kick drum that was not arranged correctly in the sequence due to a random manipulation of the sequencer. Our first thought was to just change it, but then we decided to wait..... when all the other sounds of the tracks came together we threw the kick back in and BAM, Even the acapella voice of the track was screaming. Therefore it was a simple for us to name this track as we worked on it in a completely back to front and "Inside Out" way! The other two tracks on the EP were born in a similar way, reborn again out of the dark corners of our packed 'curiosity closet'. The track 'Noococ' is perhaps the track with the most irony on the EP. Having been made originally after an amazing gig at Amnesia in Ibiza in 2012, we were in a recording frame of mind which gave the song its basis but we would still play it within our live shows. 'Noococ' has been therefore from recorded track, to live and now back to recorded in a quite weird but groovy journey. The final track, 'Trandafirit' has no such meaning. It is again a raw track stemming our live show some time ago that inspired us to recreate and retouch. Again through experiments and lots of head banging on walls, we recreated and accomplished a track that stayed true to the original writing of it but also embodied change which in a way is symbolic of the development of our project over the years. Now, we did warn you at the beginning of this wordy mess that it has been 'organised randomness' that has brought us to create these tracks and this EP, but one thing we are sure about is that we knew we would love to and be very honoured is to be able to put out this collection of cuts via Vakant. A label that has been close to our hearts and heads for a long time. We hope you enjoy the EP and that the music can help translate some of the shit above.
Much Love!

For the second instalment from Quantum Entanglement we delve into the misty past, a time when moving parts ruled the dance, when the power of the night rested on a needle and a bassline, and before CDJs calculated the bpm for you...you had to touch things, buy things, and the bassline ruled over all. Acid Thunder, a classic by Fast Eddie, was the first dance record i ever bought. It was important. The guy who sold it to me, at the time a spotty school kid in his school uniform, was called John Stapleton, and the shop was Sidetrax in Bristol. Mentrix totally gets the kinda NY sluttiness of the original, and brings it right up to date....less of a cover, more of a homage, the entanglement of then and now. Need You is an entanglement of two very unlikely BFFs... John Lee Hooker and Joey Beltram. This isn't really a cover, it's more like the offspring of many things, times, and moments - it's like the grandchild of John Lee Hooker's track dated the nephew of Joey Beltram's track and lived in Neukölln. Again, Direct - "Techno Gone Mad" on R&S was another of my earliest techno purchases - at the time it was considered "Dutch Hardcore" but now, it's almost cute....

Hey everyone,
It's me again. I'm sipping coffee and staring at this Mac's calendar, suddenly realising it's already been more than 4 months since the release of "Adamant". I think thank-yous are way overdue so I'd like to take this opportunity to acknowledge everyone involved in the project as these have been a really amazing four months. Enough nonsense and let's back to business, or the purpose of this text: I (drumroll) proudly present the final 5 re-interpretations from some talented friends. It's an honour for me to have Francesco's techno, David's modular madness, Jake's synthwork and Martin's melodies all in one package, but being both fan and friend of everyone on board I'd be blatantly biased in describing this record's contents. So, since it's 2014, why don't we switch banalities, skip the "description" and "let the music do the talking" (ugh, did I really just write that?)
Thank you all!
PS. Seriously, does anyone read these anymore?

Ruben Ganev - Scattered
Fierce techno on this 4 artist release. Locked and loaded, here comes the next salvo in RYC's line of action. Going by the name "Heimat" - the German word for "homeland", this eighteenth number in our catalogue breaks in a new series that will set the focus on exciting new names with a vision. Zeitgeisty by nature, the approach chosen for these VAs is to document state-of-the-art productions from lesser known and emerging figures, whose skills and talent we firmly believe in. An extension of our creed that techno is there to push boundaries and not reiterate the same bland assertions over and over, ad nauseam, "Heimat" shall form a shelter for top-of-the-range material and that exclusively, regardless of the producer's fame, level of fashionability and/or market-friendliness. Summoned on that debut platter are names you may have heard through our channels already, and some you haven't. Drawing first blood, Brazilian talent Marcal gets the wrecking-ball swinging at fierce rate. Engineering an inch-perfect balance between Amazonian suavity and cutting-edge industrialism, the Goiania-based whiz treats us to a mind-altering maelstrom of rainforest techno, leaving no room for improvisation whether on the rhythmic side or in terms of sound design. An absolute crusher. Another Brazilian completes the A-side, in the person of Nicolas Vogler. His track "Lost in Paradiso" is everything a mental techno pumper should be: nose-diving drum assaults, pools of lavish textures to sink your brain within, spiralling synth motifs. Epic, truly. Mysterious on-the-rise producer Hurdslenk takes over the flip with a mammoth of a fast-paced churner, designed at nothing but sweeping legs by the dozen. True to the early 00s hi-NRG strain of techno, Hurdslenk fractures his way into the system with a proper bomb of a tune, hovering the cursor halfway Birmingham-style sonic aggression and made in Rotterdam warehouse-obliteration. Final word goes to mould.audio's Ruben Ganev, an artist who knows all too well how to fly you off to the zone with a mere kick and surgically processed machine hoodoo with a purpose. Laser-precise and full-bodied, "Scattered" is the paragon of a masterful hypnotic ride, steering us smack-dab the middle of a weirdly claustrophobic dream with the right amount of daze-inducing envelopes and fuel-efficient percussive power. "Heimat" comes pressed to a 100% orange transparent vinyl, and clad in a pristine, matt varnished package to please your eyes and ears in equal measure.

Release Info:
Blazing newcomer Henri Bergmann makes her full EP debut on Watergate Records with the captivating ‘Mind Control’ EP.
Building a buzz via impressive releases on her label Automatik, the Londoner has picked up support from
everyone from Dixon, Solomun and Maceo Plex. Indeed, mention the Dodi Palese Remix remix of her track
‘Protection’ to any clued-up melodic house fan and you’re likely to be met with a blissed-out response, so
beloved was the cut, which also ended up in Tale of Clubs’ top 10 for 2021.
Her maiden voyage on the Oberbaumbrücke home label is a tour de force of chugging house that
encompasses new wave, electro and progressive elements, with a strong cast of collaborators and remixes
along the way.
Pushing herself creatively during the lockdown, this EP is the first time we’ve heard Henri utilise her voice on
her own productions, and the resulting work is a treat. The title track is a team-up with Biesmans who brings
his distinct retro sound signature to the track, while Henri’s vox elevates it to another level. ‘Our Time Has
Come’ is a punchy dancefloor gem propelled by her own vocals and a classy psychedelic synth line. ‘We
Just Keep On Going’ brings bags of robotic soul to the table, as Henri’s husband Wennink takes to the
vocoder, alongside a mystical lead melody. Stephan Jolk returns to the label following his excellent
‘Freedom’ EP in April, re-working ‘Mind Control’ into a muscular weapon. Meanwhile Echonomist, who is
notable for his appearance on WhoMadeWho’s Watergate 26 compilation, also takes his hand to the title
track, re-fashioning it into a tough bass-driven electro cut that’s beautiful and brain-scrambling in equal
doses.
