Hiding behind their three character website is a Belgian duo called GoldFFinch whose steep vision of dancefloor techno marries loveable little phrases of awkward computer conversation with the kind of kick drums that’ll rattle the windows of your neighbour’s house when your soundsystem is tweaked perfectly. ‘Ovale’ proudly contains the kind of middle section switch up that just swipes chunks at you on the dancefloor. By replacing the woody texture of the kick with an aerated boom that works the lower frequency range, it’s a groove that swallows you whole, propelling you to embrace and celebrate the return of that top end toting kick drum. The A-side ‘Red Mask’ works itself around the same punchy kick but it ramps the propulsion factor up a notch; taking stock a little of the intensity of footwork’s drums and vocal chops, the Belgian twosome keep it grounded very much at a techno pace. A much more insistent drum beat will up the listener’s kind of fidgety neck spasms but behind the drum beat everything’s built a lot more subtly. There’s the bumbling acidic bassline, the extended reverberations of the vocal samples and then this little ominous sounding winding synth line that appears at the breakdown, rides the break for 8 bars and the returns as a ghostly incarnation of its former self. GoldFFinch may well be a duo bent on keeping things simple but when the end result, which is built out of such minimal layers, is so arresting, there’s no need to change the formula. Not one bit.

Audio Culture regular, Severn Beach, returns for his 3rd release on the label. The Busy Block EP finds Severn Beach exploring new territories in equal depth. The title track Busy Block is a starting off light and skippy before exploding into a hefty slab of peak-time house, complete with uplifting chords and contrasting android-like bleeps. On the flip, Camden Paranoia, takes an almost 180 degree turn, delving into darker, industrial areas. Raw kicks and mechanical percussion are gradually layered building up to a climatic frenzy. Next is Severian, a bumpy ride through an electrical storm before reaching the break in the clouds and feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin.

Having released on some of the most influential labels, it is with great honor that Audio Culture welcomes the Montreal based artist, Nautiluss, to the family. The Solstice EP consists of four tracks and finds Nautiluss exploring warmer, more euphoric territories, and he does it right whilst still

Audio Culture tap back into the creative pool of Bristol for a collaboration between two new alter egos: Lrusse & Bleecker. Lrusse is the new solo project of Ed Bayling, of Behling & Simpson the bristolian champions of slow-house burners, while Bleecker is the more 4x4 driven guise of fellow bristolian Wedge. The result of this collaborative effort are three tracks of chunky, slow, heavy analogue vibes with an abundance of atmospherics. More

South London Ordnance will return with an EP of dense house/techno mutations on September 24. The Big Boss Theme EP contains three tracks on vinyl with an additional two digital-only cuts. This visual approach to music comes through on his space-conscious constructions. Having released the anonymous and enormous F**k Yonkers bootleg earlier this year, the Amsterdam based Audio Culture Label is poised to unleash their first official release,,a piece of music which is the result of the collaborative efforts of Dutch wunderkind Presk and Amsterdam’s premier tastemaker Cinnaman. In part, Pieter ‘Presk’ Willems’ support is responsible for the label’s inception. In a short space of time Presk has built up a solid and impressively distinct sounding catalogue of work released on respected imprints such as Ramp sister label Fourth Wave and Doc Daneeka’s Ten Thousand Yen.
Making a name for himself with nothing more than his hands and impeccable taste, Yuri ‘Cinnaman’ Boselie has become somewhat of a musical institution in Amsterdam. He’s the man behind the ground breaking Colors nights and is responsible for the equally forward thinking Beat Dimensions compilations.
The B-side features two expertly remixed and uniquely different takes on the original, courtesy of non other than Instra:mental’s Jon Convex and Ten Thousand Yen head honcho Doc Daneeka.
