Yoruba Records proudly present the return of Afefe Iku. Returning after a four year
hiatus with is his first release since his 2008 debut album and smash hit Mirror Dance,
here we have a four song EP entitled 'The Blues'. With his eclectic force and sound,
Afefe brings us another chapter in his developing story. 'The Blues' gives us the dark
edge of deeper techno, whereas 'The Arsonist' is an in your face mid tempo head
banger featuring Osunlade on vocals. 'Dakountdown' and 'Jungle Beats' stand alone
in style and approach as a throwback to the days when house was simply just house,
without the multitude of today's dance genres. Yoruba pray that you embrace the next
wave of sound from the mind of the man who brought you the classic 'Artifacts Of
Pottery Vessels'.

afefe iku - Mirror Dance ft Oveous Maximus (Yoruba Soul Mix)
Yoruba Records original this now classic record in 2008. With its ridiculous driving beat, and one of the most memorable melody lines weve heard on the dance floor, “Mirror Dance” is another one of those dance floor monstrosities that Afefe Iku seems to naturally pull out of his magic hat. On the B-Side, Osunlade takes it deep with his Yoruba Soul Mix featuring spoken word king Oveous Maximus. With deeper rhythms and a stripped groove, this one takes you back to the basement house parties allowing you to go into trance and zone out to the words of Ove. Brace yourselves, yet again.

Osunlade returns with yet another full length, MOSS. This one recorded during the head of the Covid 19 lock down. With a sensibility of not knowing how to react, the studio became the voice of choice in understanding and omitting the fears and negative of the unknown. MOSS unlike the 3 other full length projects produced during this time, is a simple track affair., something for the dj’s and those aspiring. Tunes to rock in your sets and /or use as elemental figures for your accapella desires. Either way, this is a simple gesture of the groove and how simplicity rules. Done completely on an ipad with no other gear, this is proof that its not the tool but the mind. We hope you enjoy this offering!

Release Info:
In January of 2019, news outlets such as St. Louis Today, St. Louis local FOX station KTVI and the Washington Post reported that medical examiners concluded that Danye Jones had indeed committed suicide.
Jones, a 24-old black man, was found hung from a tree in his mother’s backyard. His mother, Melissa McKinnies, immediately rejected the police’s direction of investigating this as a suicide, saying that there was foul play and that her son was lynched. Jones is one of six peculiar deaths that have some connection to the Ferguson activists of 2014. McKinnies, an original organizer of the Michael Brown protests, disagrees with the medical examiner’s report.
It is in this calling for justice and anger that Osunlade presents “Racially Charged”. Two new songs, one with a new voice, another with an old. Entirely produced by Osunlade and mastered by the one and only Martin Iveson, better known as Atjazz. this single promises truth, a message warranted and some foot stompin’ all at once.
River city poet and writer Aturah starts things off with “They Say”, speaking directly on the Danye Jones case. Reminiscent to some of his more overtly political work like “Black August”, this one of Osunlade’s sparser arrangements, letting Aturah take charge with her urgent message.
Up next, the legendary Philly DJ and spoken word artist Rich Medina takes over vocal duties for “The Sickness”. Speaking on the monster that is social media and its passionate, outspoken and mostly clueless users, Osunlade brings a more sinister and cynical production into play, featuring the keyboard work of Yoruba Soul favorite, Jesse Gannon.
On the flip we end things with a tech-house tinged remix of “They Say” from Yoruba newcomer and other half of po-lar-ity, Burlie Mac as well as the instrumental version of the “The Sickness”.
Indeed, every night has its day, but we have to admit, its dark as fuck right now.
This ones not for the faint at heart, but we are making no excuses for our rage!

Info:
Yoruba Records welcomes back label favourite Mike Steva with a well-balanced and forward thinking EP that both engages and pushes boundaries. Opening up with ‘Love Symphonik’, this stutter-stepped jam practically drips with MPC flavour. Up next, ‘The Message’; a bold proclamation with more straight forward percussion. With added Balkan flavour this one is as deep as they come. This is followed with ‘Sila’ where Steva’s chops are on full display. This engaging and well-constructed groove conjures of feelings of celebration, one that’s easy to imagine taking place in the streets of Macedonia. We close with ‘Zensko Oro’, a deep and moody percussive-led jam. This one speaks of movement, slowly building on itself and reaching a natural climax that enhances and delights the senses of the astute listener. Sit back, relax and enjoy this soon-to-be essential piece of the Yoruba Records canon. More

Info:
Yoruba Records is ecstatic to welcome back Hallex M with our latest release, the ‘Oggun EP’. Kicking off with the title track, Carlos Mena lends his voice to give praise to Oggun, the warrior-protector Orisha, in this low end heavy and celebratory groove. Slowing things down a bit, ‘Lhasa’ is a more subtle and relaxing cut, teasing you with a beautiful piano melody and funky bassline. Nickodemus gets to work with his remix of the title track ‘Oggun’. Giving this a treatment with a thick and stubby bass, this mix takes things to a deeper territory appreciated by discerning dancefloors. We round out the EP with ‘Show You The World’, a laid-back love song featuring the warm and inviting vocals of Gabriele Poso. Once again Hallex shows his prowess in crafting emotionally intelligent dancefloor tunes; we hope you enjoy these as much as we have enjoyed bringing them to you! More

‘Nano Jubo’
Toto Chiavetta extends his experienced ear to the creation of a musical gem in ‘Nano Jubo.’ Chiavetta brings together indigenous chanting, polyrhythms and complimentary keys that ask for your full attention. Experimenting with spacey synths to deliver a body-movement musical mediation, the Yoruba Soul Mixes add new dimensions, transforming the songs into funk based dance floor soul. ‘Nano Jubo’ is a funk tech track that calls on Detroit electro minimalism, subtle and dark. The informed listener may even detect a St. Louis blues swing. With advanced production, it’s highly engaging, builds your trust, leads you into the unknown, and inspires a reimagining of the four to the floor formula. ‘Nano Jubo’ is an expression of Afro-electro jazz fusion, new music for new times, and a collaboration between Osunlade and Toto Chiavetta that exemplifies divine collaborative creativity.
‘Minds’
Chiavetta’s ‘Minds’ an industrial, abstract, and unpredictable sound. You’ll hear an otherworldly parade, complete with a marching band and new age futuristic funk breaks. Sun–Ra meets house, meets Pink Floyd, it defies the limitation of genre and forges new space for producers willing to take a risk. ‘Minds’ is organized like an intentional stream of consciousness; it highlights the spirit of mad scientists who were studio bound until the song reached the wholeness of its sound. Science fictional syncopated house.
‘Hunter’
You can’t help to move ‘Hunter’ is a live wire and smart high-brow house. Chiavetta works with Osunlade to compose exciting conflicting rhythm patterns that are sure to move the crowd. Percussive heavy throughout, but on top of the bass you’re carried above ground with an intricate cosmic soundscape. More than trance ‘Hunter’ is a call to action where a circle gets formed for dance rituals. You’ll dig deep in the crates trying to find the peer to this. More soulful tech from Yoruba Soul records.

dario rosa - Something
Songs:
01. No Ede 7:25
02. Something 8:16
Release Info:
Yoruba Records is pleased to welcome Dario Rosa to the family with his first release on the label, “No Ede”. This two-track EP takes listeners on a hypnotic journey and delivers nothing short of a rhythmic workout. Starting off with the title track, No Ede is originally a gospel song – but not the type you may think. Traditional African percussion leads this track from the opening bars. Smooth stringed rhythms open up and create space as the hypnotic melody of the Kora carries you away. On the flip side we are greeted with Somethin’– which is already everything. A decidedly deep cut heavily influenced by the early ‘90s House sound. Funky keys and an infectious bassline beg you to move as the low end keeps you locked in motion. This introspective groove is made for the late night dance floor and will bring you back while looking ever forward.

Release Info:
In this self-contained remix suite Demuir works with vocalist, Canadian born Cynthia Amoah to bring a soothing element to an otherwise percussive heavy track. Her voice, once described as ‘haunting and healing’ gives us a range of sonic colors that inspire soulful iterations and brings brilliant musical personality to the foundation of this composition. The pulse is unyielding on this one, it slowly creeps and builds with lasting and lingering lyrics about love exploration and the gift of emotional curiosity. The track is funky and soulful whether instrumental, dub and vocals, and remains engaging and inspiring in all its forms, perfect for improvisational and liberating body movement. Info:
Yoruba Records is proud to present this release by label veterans Nomumbah. Hailing from Sao Paulo, this three piece consists of André Torquato, Ale Reis and Rafael Moraes. With this release, Nomumbah shows a great deal of maturity, a mark often only surpassed with the release of a sophomore album. The track “Word” will strike a familiar chord with listeners – its clever use of Maya Angelou’s reading of her timeless “Still I Rise” fits perfectly over the top of a deep bass and bongo driven groove. MeinHaus is another beautifully crafted track, one that seemingly pays tribute to Chicago’s earliest fathers of deep house while still keeping a certain swing that will set it apart on dance floors today. Precious, a definite future favorite features a cutting lead synth that adds warmth to the track and is accompanied by crystal clear hi-hat bursts and a simple, yet captivating vocal. This album’s title track, Amanha edges on tech house with stripped down percussion, a simple rolling bass line and a pulsing lead synth perfect for setting a more chilled-out vibe. A deep and at times techy release, DJs will find all 10 tracks well suited for the late night into early morning hours. Featuring rhythmic, chunky bass lines, ambient keys and radiant backing vocals this soon-to-be Yoruba classic is a must have for your kit bag in 2016.

Yoruba Records is proud to bring you this expertly crafted EP from the ever-talented Yoruba favorite, Carlos Mena. A purveyor of deep and soulful house both behind the decks and in the studio, Mena wastes no time getting down to business in this latest release. The EP opens with Bang It, a punchy, peak hour house track that’s destined for the dancefloor. A rolling, yet driving bass line commands you to move your feet as label head Osunlade’s vocals carry you from build up to release - the synth stabs assure you become lost in the music. A2 brings you a unique must-have: Elegba, an ode to the guardian, protector, and communicator. A jazzy, tribal-leaning cut, this soothing track features an impressive array of world percussive instruments that take you to new heights just as its flute brings dancers into and out of a melodic trance. Moving on: this EP’s title track, Deep Forever More, as the title suggests brings us a little deeper. Its vocals unveil a story you’ll want to lend an ear to while it’s subtle, spaced out synths keep you grooving. Featuring a magnificent piano solo by Ezel, this track is dance floor fodder and undoubtedly a future Yoruba classic. Finally, the EP closes out with an instrumental cut of Bang It, featured as A1 on the other side of the record. Yoruba is pleased to present this release as an absolute must have for heating up the dancefloor as we move into the cold winter months.

As a follow up to the massive release of Osunlade’s Camera Shy Remix package, we offer you the second single taken from the album A Man With No Past Originating The Future. In this series we bring forth the helping hands of classic co –founder and all around groove master, Luke Solomon. Pulsating rhythms coupled with dubbed out basslines and stabs merge percussive nuances alongside vocal clips perfectly. To add a more diverse appeal to this release we also hired the man himself, Isolee who delivers a nice upbeat tinged version, a bit more mellow yet intense in its own right. The third offering for this package comes from long time friend and musical brother Atjazz. With his signature sound he brings undeniable soul to the bunch while keeping the song’s integrity in tact. We complete our journey with Yoruba’s own Rafael Moraes, one third of Nomumbah. Deep is the word for this one. Mallets meet square toned bass while percussions dive perfectly alongside Osunlade’s vocal arrangements. We hope you enjoy this release as much as we have curating its material.
