Osunlade returns with yet another full length, MOSS. This one recorded during the head of the Covid 19 lock down. With a sensibility of not knowing how to react, the studio became the voice of choice in understanding and omitting the fears and negative of the unknown. MOSS unlike the 3 other full length projects produced during this time, is a simple track affair., something for the dj’s and those aspiring. Tunes to rock in your sets and /or use as elemental figures for your accapella desires. Either way, this is a simple gesture of the groove and how simplicity rules. Done completely on an ipad with no other gear, this is proof that its not the tool but the mind. We hope you enjoy this offering!

In January of 2019, news outlets such as St. Louis Today, St. Louis local FOX station KTVI and the Washington Post reported that medical examiners concluded that Danye Jones had indeed committed suicide.

Jones, a 24-old black man, was found hung from a tree in his mother’s backyard. His mother, Melissa McKinnies, immediately rejected the police’s direction of investigating this as a suicide, saying that there was foul play and that her son was lynched. Jones is one of six peculiar deaths that have some connection to the Ferguson activists of 2014. McKinnies, an original organizer of the Michael Brown protests, disagrees with the medical examiner’s report.

It is in this calling for justice and anger that Osunlade presents “Racially Charged”. Two new songs, one with a new voice, another with an old. Entirely produced by Osunlade and mastered by the one and only Martin Iveson, better known as Atjazz. this single promises truth, a message warranted and some foot stompin’ all at once.

River city poet and writer Aturah starts things off with “They Say”, speaking directly on the Danye Jones case. Reminiscent to some of his more overtly political work like “Black August”, this one of Osunlade’s sparser arrangements, letting Aturah take charge with her urgent message.

Up next, the legendary Philly DJ and spoken word artist Rich Medina takes over vocal duties for “The Sickness”. Speaking on the monster that is social media and its passionate, outspoken and mostly clueless users, Osunlade brings a more sinister and cynical production into play, featuring the keyboard work of Yoruba Soul favorite, Jesse Gannon.

On the flip we end things with a tech-house tinged remix of “They Say” from Yoruba newcomer and other half of po-lar-ity, Burlie Mac as well as the instrumental version of the “The Sickness”.

Indeed, every night has its day, but we have to admit, its dark as fuck right now.

This ones not for the faint at heart, but we are making no excuses for our rage!

Opening up with ‘Love Symphonik’, this stutter-stepped jam practically drips with MPC flavour. Up next, ‘The Message’; a bold proclamation with more straight forward percussion. With added Balkan flavour this one is as deep as they come. This is followed with ‘Sila’ where Steva’s chops are on full display. This engaging and well-constructed groove conjures of feelings of celebration, one that’s easy to imagine taking place in the streets of Macedonia. We close with ‘Zensko Oro’, a deep and moody percussive-led jam. This one speaks of movement, slowly building on itself and reaching a natural climax that enhances and delights the senses of the astute listener. Kicking off with the title track, Carlos Mena lends his voice to give praise to Oggun, the warrior-protector Orisha, in this low end heavy and celebratory groove. Slowing things down a bit, ‘Lhasa’ is a more subtle and relaxing cut, teasing you with a beautiful piano melody and funky bassline. Nickodemus gets to work with his remix of the title track ‘Oggun’. Giving this a treatment with a thick and stubby bass, this mix takes things to a deeper territory appreciated by discerning dancefloors. We round out the EP with ‘Show You The World’, a laid-back love song featuring the warm and inviting vocals of Gabriele Poso. Sun–Ra meets house, meets Pink Floyd, it defies the limitation of genre and forges new space for producers willing to take a risk. ‘Minds’ is organized like an intentional stream of consciousness; it highlights the spirit of mad scientists who were studio bound until the song reached the wholeness of its sound. ‘Hunter’
You can’t help to move ‘Hunter’ is a live wire and smart high-brow house. Chiavetta works with Osunlade to compose exciting conflicting rhythm patterns that are sure to move the crowd. Percussive heavy throughout, but on top of the bass you’re carried above ground with an intricate cosmic soundscape. This two-track EP takes listeners on a hypnotic journey and delivers nothing short of a rhythmic workout. Starting off with the title track, No Ede is originally a gospel song – but not the type you may think. Traditional African percussion leads this track from the opening bars. Smooth stringed rhythms open up and create space as the hypnotic melody of the Kora carries you away. On the flip side we are greeted with Somethin’– which is already everything. Osunlade returns with his latest full length album, Peacock. Recorded in homage to the orisha Ochun, an album about love relations, the heart, acceptance, vulnerability and change. While love is the reason, funk is the cause. With the exception of the albums two electronic explorations the album is fully realized in classic analog soul funk with Osunlade taking the reigns of all or most instrumentation and vocals. A very personal one indeed, yet this 8 song continuous play takes us back to the beauty of music listening. Enjoy!

As a follow up to the massive release of Osunlade’s Camera Shy Remix package, we offer you the second single taken from the album A Man With No Past Originating The Future. In this series we bring forth the helping hands of classic co –founder and all around groove master, Luke Solomon. Pulsating rhythms coupled with dubbed out basslines and stabs merge percussive nuances alongside vocal clips perfectly. To add a more diverse appeal to this release we also hired the man himself, Isolee who delivers a nice upbeat tinged version, a bit more mellow yet intense in its own right. The third offering for this package comes from long time friend and musical brother Atjazz. With his signature sound he brings undeniable soul to the bunch while keeping the song’s integrity in tact. We complete our journey with Yoruba’s own Rafael Moraes, one third of Nomumbah. Deep is the word for this one. Mr. Afro Bionic Djinji Brown brings us an eclectic palette of grooves and sounds that breathe deeply from the soul of music. 'Djinji's Corner' cleverly reaches though his diverse influence creating an EP that is deep, primal and soul filled. His gift lies in the ability to take music to the edge, stretching beyond the limits of any one genre. As a tribute to his father, jazz artist Marion Brown, he used a song title taken from Marion's album titled 'Afternoon of a Georgia Faun', written in 1970 in honour of the birth of his son. 'Djinji's Corner' constructs a sonic journey of parallel rhythms that glide thorough jazz, hip-hop and house with the driving intensity of rock, fully expressing his signature "Afro Bionic" sound through each song, beginning with the synthetic symphonic sounds of 'Autumn Brown' to the rock rhythmic edge of 'Spin'. '#1 Challenger' tributes his love of the boxing ring with hype chants evolving into primal beats with all encompassing deep groove. Rounding out this four song EP is 'Rusty Fingers' which invigorates the avant-garde sound of his father Marion as it extended into the futuristic blending of Djinji's multi genre offerings.
