An artist as versatile as Alex Krüger is a rare find these days, not only did he release numerous EP's and albums as Tigerskin or Korsakow since the mid 90s, he's also been on the forefront of the "Dub Techno" movement since 1999 with outings on classic labels such as "Raum…Musik", "Force Tracks" and "3B/ United States of Mars". Now ten years after his last album on "Opossum Recordings" Alex is back with this well crafted genre bending full length "Caves & Cages". From deep techno cuts through rippling ambient excursions to funky reggae infused live jams with Haushausen this work is yet another milestone in the creative bubble Alex lives in (i.e. his studio).
A predominantly analogue producer, Alex recorded most sounds for "Caves & Cages" on his modular synths and vintage gear at Organic Domain during 2017 and early 2018. Throughout the album tension ebbs and flows effortlessly via syncopated subs, analogue improvisation, subtle chord stabs and sustained swells interspersed with textured field and home recordings. The ambient opener "Intra" sets the tone for the album. Rich with alien atmospheres, distant soundscapes, out of reach voices and licks of live instruments dug up from numerous recordings dating back as far as 30 years, even before Alex started his electronic journey. The sojourn ventures deeper from there. Subaquatic dub techno is the mood on "King's Cave", "Helix" and "In Air" only surfacing ever so slightly for moments of clarity where shimmering tops and glistening synth lines shed some light on the steady grooves. The tracks "Future History" and "Transition State CIV" border on deep house territory. A punchy, gruff bass line and shaken percussion on the first adds suspense and energy, while the second quivers slowly with jungle tainted toms and blips and squelches from machines.
Laid back dub reggae is the tempo for "Last First Time" as well as "Ghost Button" and "R.U.G" where Alex is joined by his Berlin studio neighbours Haushausen. Seasoned musicians in their own right they jammed with him on these two tracks, delivering deft performances on drums, bass and guitar and adding yet another, more human dimension to the unfolding release. The feeling peaks becoming almost aerial on "Nervana" and "Self-Similarity", where quicker tempos, glitchy modular patterns dart along while seemingly eternal reverb tails and strings transcend space and time.
Dub Taylor returns with an all consuming, otherworldly listening experience. "Caves & Cages" is an inter-dimensional hour of sound from the mind of Alex Krüger.

The deeper sister to Tic Tac Toe, Connect Four is back with a new EP from German producer Dub Taylor aka Tigerskin aka Alex Krüger. He has been crafting away in this warm, deep house realm for years under a number of different aliases, always weaving plenty of liquid grooves with a steady house pulse. The two original tracks served up here continue in that fine tradition. Opener ‘So Called Life’ is thick with rattling; rumbling synths and a deliciously underlapping house rhythm that sweeps you up every time it breaks. Some obscured, indecipherable male vocals lurk in the shadows to add an air of mystery and it’s a track you may well have already heard in sets by the likes of German tastemaker Till Von Sein and many others. On remix duty is Paneoh, a fast rising DJ and producer aligned with labels like Bedrock and Ellum Audio. His mix is just as deep, but stands a little more upright and kicks that bit firmer. Swirling synth landscapes colour in the background as sexy handclaps keep you dancing in the foreground – classy stuff, for sure. ‘Heart of Iron’ pairs allsorts of odd and quirky little sound designs – tearing paper, glassy tinkles and more – with a mid tempo house kick that eventually gets joined by some fully dubwise, Jamaican influenced chords. The result is beautifully off kilter and refreshing. Finally, Denmark’s Blagger strips back the track to a warm wind tunnel of sound that glows with a long, thin future-facing pad forever in the background. The slinky hi-hats add bite and the Moodymann like keys add plenty of emotional resonance. Staying true to its mission to release deeper, more stripped back sounds, Connect Four has lined-up another easily lovable release here.

Dub Taylor's closest relation with classical dub music might not be hefty echo effects or wall-shaking basslines but the engineers constant quest for new unheard sounds and gadgets. good example is the minimal stepper "placebo" were more and more eccentric bleeping,screeching sounds are popping up from everywhere and form a dense atmosphere without suffocating the subtle groove. next the "lonesome cowboy" gets funky on you with percussive staccato beats. the flip holds the tongue-in-cheekish "uuh babe" that sounds like Moroder-Disco played on child instruments and the dense percussive groover "kung fu".

"Gesamtlaufzeit was produced between March and September 2003 - every song in a different environment where Marko resided this year (between his stay in Canada, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and his residence Thüringen/Germany). A diary, converted to music with every location producing new impressions and creating diverse sample ressources. Marko is the kind of person searching for natural sounds, between campfires crackles, and rolling obstacles to give his tracks a certain identifying warmth. One can listen to the process of Fürstenbergs muscial maturity, that is obvious by the versatility and detailed harmonic moods on this album. The tracks circle around Dubhouse in the broader sense - with rambling pads and endless modulated ambient spheres, tight Groove monsters are created, underlayed with compressed bassdrums whenever appropriate. Every track contains a certain grade of emotion - relating the dedications of the tracknames, that reflect on prevailing local circumstances.
