Jozif’s title track – the dancefloor focused ‘Fist’ of the package – goes in deep, the momentum continuously building as the track twists and turns through a landscape of deep slabs of bass assured deployment of subtle guitar plucks and piano chords, and dreamy xylophones. Craig Richard’s ‘Finger’ re-interpretation picks up the thread where his “Beats In Space” remix left off. Crackling static laced with woozy atmospheres and paranoid utterings flip the vibe of the original completely on its head.

The glorious creative love affair between Londoner jozif and LA based Culprit continues unabated, with the artist’s fourth release for the imprint in as many years. Six months after the first ‘W?aikiki’?EP by j?ozif,?C?ulprit releases its followup. The five originals that formed the core of the twopart ‘W?aikiki’?were the fruits of the intensely prolific period of musicmaking by jozif. The two originals on ‘W?aikiki 2’?highlight jozif’s inimitable sound: organic in essence, steeped in references that reach beyond the classic house/techno cliche´s, loose and fun, yet with the emotional core and depth of feeling worn proudly on its proverbial sleeve. Remixes arrive courtesy of two exceptional producers of very different styles but equally strong personal voices: E?ric Volta’s idiosyncratic take dives deep into the realm of melodically eerie, perfectly calibrated for the discerning afterhours. H?anfry Martinez is the rising Spanish talent whose love for the ceaseless groove unites him with fellow house groove masters like A?pollonia,?D?jebali?and J?avier Carballo.?

The past two years without a jozif release have felt like an eternity at Culprit headquarters. Imagine the collective relief and delight, when one of the label's core artists had a veritable musical outpouring, delivering five delicious originals. Too rich with originality and some of jozif's best ideas to be contained within one collection, "Waikiki" will be released in two parts, accompanied by exciting reworks coming from some of the label's favorite artists. Part 1 shows jozif's unwavering dedication to genre-defying, timeless dance music. Analogue disco meets old school r'n'b and funk, framed by a modern deep house feel, all delivered with jozif's typical poise and a sense of musical adventure. Never the one to hem himself by expectation of others, jozif continues unabated on his unique path. "Waikiki" accomplishes real depth with lightness of touch, yet again rewarding Culprit's faith in the artist with some of the best music in the label's cannon. Remixes on "Waikiki" Part 1 arrive courtesy of Matt Tolfrey and No Regular Play. Tolfrey is another Culprit mainstay, with the working relationship spanning almost the entirety of label's existence. His take on "Good Man" is warm yet trippy, its deadly groove led by a terrific bassline. Brooklyn's No Regular Play are long time friends of Culprit, with Greg Paulus (one half of the duo) having featured on a pair of remixes by Thugfucker and Signal Flow recently. This is the Wolf + Lamb family members' first proper work for Culprit and it's assured electronic funk is a very welcome addition to the release.

jozif, - The 508 feat. Little Bear
Amidst an insane touring schedule jozif contributes the next instalment in the Crosstown Rebels unstoppable release schedule with 'The 508'; a killer EP featuring the sublime vocal work of Little Bear and rising star Uffe on remix duties. Unorthodox percussive elements lead the way on the original version of 'The 508', rattling away in an almost marching band fashion until we are swept into the ethereal vocals of Little Bear. Deeply emotive grand piano chords combined with the inclusion of additional hats and shakers pave the way for a kick and a subby baseline to give the track real purpose and drive. An electric piano melody during the breakdown builds tension to a climax, which cascades down upon the return of the vocal. On the remix the Rebels astute A&R team welcome young Dane Uffe to the label after his exceptional recent outing on Pets Recordings. This one starts gritty and raw with tribal percussion setting a loose off kilter groove. The piano chords from the original are retained and are even developed further with a few extra chords added. This time its epic string pads that build the climax and a glockenspiel melody that completes this beautiful journey. Closing the single is the instrumental version of the title track. A great release for jozif to kick off his Crosstown account!

For his second release on the label this year, Culprit welcome jozif and his 'Standard Rising' EP. Sharing the former's anticipation and buzz, 'Standard Rising' is the middle installment in the LA-based imprint's anthemic summer trilogy. Exuberant and profoundly catchy the EP is bursting with fresh ideas that are uniquely jozif and perfectly matched to Culprit's forward moving sound.

With their 22nd release, Culprit unleash their most narratively and sonically rich EP, courtesy of one of the genre’s unique young voices, jozif. His ‘Lady B EP’ is a work of intricate conception that goes well beyond typical dance music themes, instead serving up a personally vivid and cohesive story. With these five immaculate tracks, Culprit appears closest to fulfilling their mission statement of delivering music cinematic in its scope, true to their Los Angeles roots. ‘Lady B’ chronicles an intimately personal set of experiences for jozif, reflecting a time and an emotional place with honesty and verve. Adventurous and offbeat, this is a 5-tracker full of musical influences all jozif’s own, well in synch with his unique narrative idea. Full of swelling strings, dramatic piano flourishes, and guitar melodies rarely found elsewhere in modern house music, this is a fluid sonic journey with mood changes abound.

Within a fistful of years, London based DJ and producer jozif has built a solid reputation for himself. Eccentric as well as charismatic, his groove-driven sets have brought severe damage on some of the most hard to please dancefloors of Planet Earth. As a producer, jozif sails in a sea of strange atmospheres, wrapped up in white noise, equally organic and electronic, deep blue, deep disco, deep house, deep techno...
