Sylvester - When My Dreamboat Comes Home
Disco legend Sylvester comes to Dark Entries with Private Recordings: August 1970, an intimate collection of vintage jazz, blues, and gospel. While Sylvester is best known for his chart-topping collaborations with producer Patrick Cowley, such as “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real),” this release reveals his passion for the sounds of the 30s and 40s. In 1970 a 22-year-old Sylvester had moved to San Francisco and found himself involved with the Cockettes, the infamous psychedelic performance art troupe. Among this milieu was Peter Mintun, a pianist and record collector living in a commune devoted to retro culture. According to Mintun, “We were like hippies who lived in the twenties. We lived in a house that didn’t have anything modern in it. Nothing in it was made after World War II.” Mintun and Sylvester bonded over their love of Black singers of yore and were allotted a slot during Cockettes performances reviving the music of the Prohibition Era. One afternoon, Sylvester and Mintun recorded a number of their shared favorites using a high-end microphone a friend had acquired. Private Recordings features 9 songs from this session, including standards like “Stormy Weather,” “Happy Days Are Here Again,” and “God Bless the Child.” Sylvester’s unmistakable falsetto brings depth and a dash of camp to these familiar tunes. The recordings are casual and intimate, even capturing banter between Sylvester and Mintun; their brief rendition of “When My Dreamboat Comes Home” has the duo working out a melody in real time. In addition to their sonic explorations of decades past, Sylvester and Mintun also staged photographic shoots in vintage couture. Private Recordings comes with a 16-page booklet on firm cardstock featuring images from these never-before-seen shoots as well as liner notes from Mintun detailing his friendship with Sylvester and their experiences recording. All this is housed in a metallic silver sleeve designed by Eloise Leigh featuring a 1920’s Art Deco aesthetic. The record will be released on September 6th which would have been Sylvester’s 76th birthday, and all proceeds from Private Recordings will go to the two charities that Sylvester left his royalties after his death: Project Open Hand and PRC (formerly AIDS Emergency Fund). This essential release documents the earliest known recordings from one of disco’s greatest talents.

Sylvester - "I Need Somebody To Love Tonight" (7 Inch edit)
Sylvester has too many hits to count, but 'Over And Over' has to be up there. Originally released in 1977, the timeless slice of uptempo disco funk was a mighty meeting of minds - any track penned by Ashford & Simpson is set for iconic status, and with Sylvester up front it's even more of a sure thing. Quite simply eternal. Of course, Sylvester's most famous collaborator was Patrick Cowley, whose magic touch is all over the wriggling, brooding synth boogie of 'I Need Somebody To Love Tonight', presented here as a compact 7" edit for a short sharp blast of perfection

Sylvester - You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) - Soulwax For Despacio Instrumental
Craft Recordings and Soulwax are pleased to celebrate Pride by producing a fresh and joyful remix of Sylvester's 1978 disco classic, 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)’."You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) - Soulwax For Despacio Remix” is available across digital platforms from June 25th, while a 12-inch release with a vinyl exclusive instrumental version on the B-side is available to pre-order now. It was made to play on the Despacio sound system, a 50,000 watt, state-of- the-art, vinyl only sound system which Soulwax created with James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem, DFA Records) & powered by McIntosh & Jordan Acoustics.“Unlike other remixes where we usually replace most of the elements and make something radically different based around the vocal, we made this remix using only the parts we found on the original multitrack that we were so kindly given by the Sylvester estate. Even though we have played this song a million times, we discovered a few elements that we had never heard before, like a crazy Patrick Cowley synth solo and somewhere hidden before the start of the multitrack, the ending of what sounds like a gospel version of 'Mighty Real’. It was a huge privilege to be asked to remix this seminal track and we hope that Sylvester will dance to it, wherever he is” Soulwax

Sven Väth - L'Esperanza (Hardspace Mix)
Tracklist: (1) Sven Väth – L'Esperanza (Original Album Version) (DE-Q20-24-00009)
(2) Sven Väth – L'Esperanza (Hardspace Mix) (DE-Q20-24-00010)
L'Esperanza (Hope) is undoubtedly one of Sven Väth's greatest hits. After more than 30 years, we are very proud to revive this timeless masterpiece for you on Cocoon Recordings. The artwork of the A-side is from the original 12" cover, which was released on Eye Q Records back then. Anyone who knows Sven recognizes that he has always felt free and evolved in terms of appearance and style. That's why we instantly loved the idea of Sven re-staging himself in the same pose but in a new guise. This picture disc documents a 30-year-long transformation, both sonically and visually. It is a beautiful journey through time and a true collector’s item.
A1: L'Esperanza (Original Album Version) 1993 Produced in 1993, this track has certainly not lost any of its charm over the years. Lovely string sounds envelop you in a cloud of comfort, while the filtered downbeat emphasizes this feeling of lightness. The catchy tune of the playful synthesizer melody invites you to close your eyes and start dreaming. Let yourself fall into a deep state of meditation and trance. The airy electric bassline comes with a charismatic power and opens a door to the subconscious, calling on you to dive deep. The atmosphere of this composition sits somewhere between drifting through the sea and hovering through space.
B1: L'Esperanza (Hardspace Mix) 2023 A revised version of the "Hope Will Move Mountains Mix" by "Visions Of Shiva" occurs on the B-Side in the form of Len Faki’s hardspace mix. Len is renowned for his elegant edits and refined modifications as part of his side project, this time delivering a stripped-down 135 BPM version that fits perfectly into the current zeitgeist. A club version of "L'Esperanza" that radiates a high level of euphoric energy, constantly pushing the rhythm patterns forward. All hands go up in the air at the latest when the piano part starts in the middle section. Let’s go back to the good old days of the original 90s trance sound since the cheerful arpeggio synth melody takes us along.
What is certain, you can't tell that either version has been around for 30 years.

3
FBK - Hassling (Len Faki Hardspace Mix)
This February, Rekids look to the venerable talents of Len Faki for three fantastic remixes of tracks from FBK's 2019 debut album, ‘More Stories From The Future’. For two decades, German artist Len Faki has towered over the techno underground thanks to his renowned DJ sets at cult venues like Berghain, and his always on point productions. They have come on staples like Ostgut Ton and Cocoon, but mostly on his own powerhouse outlet Figure. Over the years, Faki has provided a number of excellent remixes on Rekids, including Dustin Zahn and Radio Slave himself, thus it’s incontestable that he’s the best person to remix Kevin Kennedy’s incredible album – and the result speaks for itself. Up first is his ‘Hardspace Mix’ of 'Headless', which becomes a sublime seven-minute techno roller. Utterly hypnotic throughout, it has looped one-word vocals, smooth claps and wiry synth lines all intertwined with perfectly rubber kicks. The excellent mix of 'I'll Sit Back' builds to a more manic peak, with hammering hits and steel-plated drums all demanding you march to the increasingly dark techno groove as a vocal repeat’s the title over and over. Finally, the mix of 'Hassling' is built on hulking great drums that will rattle warehouse walls, and has dub techno chords draped throughout: it finds a perfect sweet spot between irresistible functionality and atmospheric form.A1. Radio Slave - Wake Up (Idjut Boys 'Shed' Mix)
Superpitcher and Idjut Boys remix Radio Slave’s ‘Wake Up’. Radio Slave’s spoken word slow-burner ‘Wake Up’ dropped on Rekids March ‘23, winning support from the likes of Roman Fluegel, Louise Chen and Red Axes and continuing a run of singles that explores the house and disco roots of the iconic British UK/Producer. Now, he invites Kompakt a?liate and Hippie Dance co-founder Superpitcher alongside UK duo Idjut Boys to reimagine ‘Wake Up’ on a fresh 12”. The original ‘Wake Up’ saw Matt Edwards, aka Radio Slave, utilise low-slung grooves and an iconic speech-like vocal. Superpitcher remixes the track ?rst, turning it into an acid-infused trip with its vocal samples echoing through cavernous, dubbed-out soundscapes. On the ?ip, we see Idjut Boys turn up the ?ange in their hypnotic version while maintaining the original’s bassline and stripping back the vocal to eerie whispers.

Oceanvs Orientalis - Neutrality (Nick Curly Remix)
Oceanvs Orientalis teases his highly anticipated album 'Portrait of the Obscure’ on Crosstown Rebels with the third and penultimate single ‘Neurality’, remixed by 8Bit and Cecile head honcho Nick Curly. Istanbul-based Safak Oz Kutle, aka Oceanvs Orientalis, is a producer and live act who blends the rich sonic cultures of Turkish, Kurdish, Armenian and Arabic music to curate his take on electronic music. The first two singles from his forthcoming album on Damian Lazarus’ legendary Crosstown Rebels have showcased his diverse sound at its fullest, and now the third offering and final single ahead of the LPs release confirms him once again to be a standout talent as he unveils the captivating sonics of ‘Neurality’.
An absorbing and stirring production, ‘Neutrality’ brings a darkly involving groove that is multi-layered and hypnotic, with several shimmering vocals, jangling percussive lines and ethereal pads all locking you in for an enthralling ride. A remixer who needs little introduction, Nick Curly is as integral to the tech house genre as anyone in the scene, heading up key labels such as 8Bit and Cecile while helping to define the genre as we know it today. His interpretation is deep and warm, with slinky drums carefully deployed amongst vocal whispers that bring human soul. An excellent final preview into what’s still to come, ‘Neurality’ delivers another exceptional production, leading perfectly into the release of the full-length project this April. More

Pete Heller's Big Love - Big Love (Original 12" Mix)
It’s almost hard to believe that a record with anthem status like Pete Heller’s ‘Big Love’ was created out of a happy accident, but that is exactly how it happened. Left to his own devices as his studio partner Terry Farley went to watch a Chelsea game, Pete Heller was playing around with his Akai sampler when he produced what is arguably one of the most recognisable pieces of dance music of the 1990’s. Earlier this summer Urbana Records boss and Spanish powerhouse David Penn took to remixing this enduring classic. Winning over dancefloors in Ibiza and beyond with his signature rolling bassline and infectious groove, the record soaring to both Beatport and Traxsource #1. Now Defected present a special 12” package that features David’s remix, joined on the A-Side by The Dronez Remix, where house masters Erick Morillo, Harry Romero and Jose Nunez lend their classic house capabilities to the track. On the B-Side is Pete Heller’s original, sounding as incredible as ever over twenty years after its original release, once again proving the timelessness of ‘Big Love’.

david morales pres. the red zone project - Don't Go (Ryan Elliott Remix)
Following on from David Morales’ appearance on the label earlier this year, Rekids tap up Shed and Ryan Elliott for a pair of percussive reimaginations. Well known for remixes of the Thompson Twins, Shawn Christopher, Clive Griffin and the Pet Shop Boys, Morales’ Red Zone moniker was conceived during the Def Mix legend’s formative years at the renowned club sharing the same name. 50 Weapons and Monkeytown’s Shed adopts his Head High alter ego for a remix that draws the original’s vocals into the spotlight before planting thunderous kick drums beneath whilst dusty pads operate above. Meanwhile, Ostgut Ton affiliate Ryan Elliott crafts a reimagination that incorporates breaky percussion, a rumbling low end and sweeping astral synths.

Re-Dial 303.
The follow-up to the first Acid Sampler is now in the hands of a single artist. Space Dimension Controller does Running Back the honor to leave his fingerprints on the (usually) silver box - and it’s a match made in heaven. The Irish man’s music is mostly a nod to the subtle and more delicate ramifications of electronic music. His Acid Sampler is no exception. Most of the EP presents itself as an ode to the brain dance vibe of acid house rooted music. While leaving out the harder and faster styles of the genre, SDC manages to pour his heart and soul as a producer into these four charming tracks.
Kosmische Conga works as the leader of the pack and pirouettes with memorable hooks, synthesizer swells and descant acid lines. Echopet introverts the whole concept, while Minehead peaks with it. Named after the seaside town that harbored the Bloc Weekend festival, its a warp-free romantic reflex of the brain dance vibe – or a heartfelt love song for circuits. Carinacid completes the quartet with a chugging and hugging mid tempo beat that could have gone on forever. Acid test passed! Artwork by Gasius.

Tracklist: (1) Harvey McKay – Black Spider (DE-Q20-22-00023)
(2) Harvey McKay – Sticky Carpet (DE-Q20-22-00024)
(3) Harvey McKay – Packed Lunch (DE-Q20-22-00025)
Harvey McKay makes a welcome return to Cocoon Recordings with the Black Spider EP, featuring
three heavy-duty cuts that spin out in a variety of directions, constructing a formidable web of peaktime mayhem in the process.
Black Spider bites hard from the get-go with a venomous bassline that pulses and mutates through a
series of precision peaks and troughs. The track kicks repeatedly, drenching the dancefloor in washes
of analog noise while McKay still finds space for a barrage of clattering percussion. Haunting ambient
voices and a mysterious spoken mantra add yet more texture to the cavernous, gothic atmosphere it
conjures.
Next up, the disconcertingly titled Sticky Carpet utilizes a 90s hard house vibe complete with
crunching, distorted beats, and a glistening octave-jumping synth pattern that slides and constricts
around the chugging bassline. However, the track really comes into its own as alternating metallic
patterns start to dominate in a homage to the hi-hat, whipping the dancefloor into shape as they switch
in and out, jostling relentlessly for attention.
Finally, hardcore junglist tendencies take center stage on Packed Lunch as another rasping,
doomsday bass rides the sonic spectrum, simultaneously spitting sparks and shaking the foundations
to the core. Scattered arpeggios add a certain discord to the fray as the pounding breakbeat hammers
out a pathway to oblivion. Packed Lunch definitely packs a punch, adding extra spice to an EP that’s
exclusively for the headstrong. More
