BACK IN! The fourteenth release by MOLL-SELEKTA is an essential compilation of rare, previously
on CD/LP unreleased Roots-, Lovers,- and DJ-tracks by one of the most important artists of Jamaica. Lincoln "Sugar" Minott played a major role in the history of Jamaican music as a singer, songwriter, producer, label owner and sound system instigator. His debut album "Live Loving" can lay claim to being the first Dancehall release ever. He had his biggest chart hits in a time when he was even more poular in England than back home which finally led to a contract with RCA and an appearance on "Top Of The Pops".
His singing voice is as sweet as honey and graces both Roots and Lovers Rock compositions in equal measure. Hence the nickname - although the man himself claims that he had been called that ever since his childhood love of candy. As a DJ his name is "Papa Honey", featured on the album on the track "Waiting For Your Love", together with Sister Ester.
For the first time ever, this do-CD/do-LP presents a remastered collection of Sugar's best maxisingles and single A + B-sides in extended versions. All songs are drawn from his strongest Roots-phase, an era in which the quality of his work was without parallel. The tracks were mostly recorded at the legendary Channel One Studio with the Roots Radics Band and the Black Roots Players. Included are guest appearances by Ranking Dread and Yabby You and the hits "A Slice Of The Cake" and "Dance Hall Style", here in their lesser known 1983 extended versions. Three outrageous intros round up a portrait of Sugar Minott that is way outstanding within his large number of releases.
