2022 Repress Edition - Original Art
Many Reggae aficionados see the concentrated phase of Rock Steady between 1967 - 1969 as the Carribean's most productive era of all time. Never before had such sweet melodies, inspiring rhythms and beautiful love lyrics come together. Numerous Soul hits by the likes of Curtis Mayfield, The Impressions, The Supremes all got the bass-driven, Jamaican style treatment. "The Bunny Lee Rock Steady Years" collects some of the most essential and rarest songs of that era - in a better sound quality than ever before! It showcases a wealth of soulful singers, ranging from top acts like Slim Smith (also lead-singer in the Techniques and Uniques) or Alton Ellis to the rather unknown Cnythia Richards or Webber Sisters. All songs were produced by Bunny Lee, one of the greatest Jamaican producers, who had one Rock Steady hit after another - finally earning him the nickname "Striker".
This compilation is a valuable slice of history for Reggae and Soul fans alike, for lovers of great voices, for those who do not confuse "cool" with cold and appreciate a good love song when it comes from the heart.

2021 Repress Edition - finally available again on this CD and alternatively on 2LP Vinyl for the First time (moll16lp).
The legendary movie soundstrack based out of Kingston, Jamaica in April 2008, telling the story of the original vocalists and musicians involved.
The sixteenth release on the Moll-Selekta label shares its title with a wonderful film, a heartwarming homage to the golden age of rocksteady. It documents the recordings being made for this very album at the Tuff Gong studios, Kingston, Jamaica in April 2008, telling the story of the original vocalists and musicians involved. Excerpts from an all star reunion concert staged in Kingston and older archive material complete the picture. Never before in the history of Jamaica, which already occupies a unique place on the world map of song, its sound embraced by western popular music, has such an illustrious collection of singers and players been assembled. The album showcases 15 rocksteady classics in sparkling, deeply inspired new versions, recorded in the studio which also played host to album sessions of a certain Bob Marley. Under the musical direction of Ernest Ranglin, a guitarist of considerable renown not only on the reggae circuit, but also on the jazz scene, mixed by legendary engineer Errol Brown - in Duke Reid's employ at the Treasure Isle studio in the sixties - and freshly arranged by Lynn Taitt.

His new masterpiece "Simple Truths and Pleasures" is again performed with members of the Big Fat Gap Bluegrass Band from NC, the vast majority of it recorded live in the studio. Most of the musicians have day jobs (Michael Holland is a sound engineer at the University of NC) who "just like to pick and like each other", showing more than ever before on this album. More traditional than the predecessor, the earthly songs reflect influences of regional artists like Earl Scruggs, Blind Boy Fuller, Mississippi John Hurt, the Carter Family, Doc Watson and Hank Williams. The music is a perfect and very melodic mixture of the timeless Southern musical forms: Acoustic Country, Folk, Bluegrass, Honky Tonk, Old Time String Band, Blues and Gospel. Songs to grow old with, led by Michael Holland's warm and haunting voice, adding a fresh Songwriter appeal to the classic American Roots-genres.

We are now part of the Lee Perry universe and very proud to announce the release of the double-vinyl of this great album with the freshest and strongest performance of the "Mighty Upsetter" in years!
As one of the most innovative legends in the history of reggae music, Lee Perry presents his new dub poetry project. Supported by the White Belly Rats, a new dub combo who composed the musical landscape, Mr Perry, always as upsetting, offers us powerful dub songs essentially inspired by his spiritual journey and the critical world situation.
After over 150 albums (!) as a producer and /or artist, the founder of reggae and dub strikes back with his new album. You may look at it as a collection of spontaneous poetry where tracks with rough lyrics and without any concessions or even prophetically inspired songs meet simpler lyrics like in the famous "Inspector Gadget". The whole thing was set up with such a clearness, realism and humor that both the fans of yesterday and others, who wish to get to know an authentic and engaged artist with an unlimited genius will be convinced.
Composed by DJ Startrek and his combo "The White Belly Rats" (DJ Startrek on bass, Lax Delux on guitar and Senator Spahni on drums), produced by P. Brunkow and mastered at Sterling Sound NY, "Panic In Babylon" is - according to some privileged who could already listen - the essence of the new dub of the third millenium!
And on top there is the solo (in "Panic In Babylon") by the famous Rico Rodriguez, the great master of the reggae trombone - who could ask for more?

BACK IN!
For more than four decades, Cornel Campbell has added jewel after jewl to the crown of Jamaican musical history, songs that can be heard in any good dancehall today, whether they come out of reggae, R&B or ska. Top of the list, the hits "Queen Of The Minstrels" and "Stars", recorded for Clement "Coxsone" Dodd at the legendary Studio One with the "Eternals". Known as the "Sam Cooke of Reggae", due to his unique soul-infused falsetto timbre, Campbell remains remarkably unknown outside of his native Caribbean.
The fifth Moll-Selekta release, "Original Blue Recordings 1970-1979" showcases many of his best tracks, soulful lovers renditions and more Rasta influenced roots songs. Compositions by Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke and particularly Curtis Mayfield figure among the timeless soul, lovers and roots evergreens to be found here. The compilation also features the hit "Just One Kiss (Magic Spell)", the single "Jah Jah Me No Horn Yah" and the - even on single - previously unreleased dub version of "Devil In Bed" (on the CD only).
Renowned bands The Aggrovators, Soul Syndicate and the High Time Players provided the backing at Channel One, Harry J's, Randys and Dynamics whilst the mix was done at no lesser than King Tubby's. Bunny ‚Striker' Lee, one of the Islands' most important producers, who worked with Campbell in perhaps his finest and most prolific days in the Seventies, was responsible for production.
Relive the crowning years of Kingston, Jamaica, 1970 to 1979 with Cornel Campbell at the peak of his powers. A must for serious reggae fans and a perfect introduction for the more casual observer.

BACK IN! It is still not cleared amongst the experts which Dub-album of three contenders came out first. Fact is, that King Tubby played a major role in the making of the probable first work, Lee Perry's epochal "Blackboard Jungle Dub" from 1973.
The two essential Dub-albums of our new edition also belong to that early and revolutionary Dub-phase: "The Roots Of Dub", the first whole Dub-album by King Tubby, was originally released in late 1974, "Dub From The Roots" only half a year later in early 1975. These two albums represent more than any later release the great pioneer collaboration between King Tubby (engineer/mixer) and Bunny Lee (producer), who brought hundreds of songs round to King Tubby's studio.
Hardly any other artist as King Tunny, born with the name Osbourne Ruddock, has undoubtfully contributed more to the invention and the development of Dub. He was mainly responsible for the inclusion of the instrumental Dub-versions on the B-sides of the Jamaican hand pressed singles. His own Sound System "Hometown HiFi" had rivalled the established greats in the sixties such as Duke Reid The Trojan and Coxsone Dodd's Downbeat System.
Tragically he also became a victim of the violence in Jamaica when he was shot by a gunman in the ghetto district Waterhouse near his studio (that he had named "Firehouse" for good reasons) on the 2. 6. 1989.
Some of the most important riddims ever are included here, most of them were - as vocal tracks - Bunny Lee's biggest hits: John Holt's "A Love I Can Feel" and "Man Next Door", stripped down to drum and bass and shaped with echoes in the same way as Cornel Campbell's "Queen Of The Minstrell" or Johnny Clarke's "Rock With Me". The music was played by the Aggrovators in one of their their strongest line ups, featuring amongst others Robbie Shakespeare, Chinna Smith, Tony Chin, Augustus Pablo and Carlton & Aston Barrett.
These songs have lost nothing of their atmospheric depth over the years, as musical statements they are as magical as ever. These historic works are an integral part of Jamaican history and resonant milestones on the way to King Tubby's hall of fame.
