One year ago Digitaline has released Raoul's very first release. It has been one of their most successful EPs so far and both tracks instantly found their audience and brought Raoul onto the main floors of the entire world, where it still stands confortably one year later.
So what better than to celebrate one year of the label and welcome Digitaline back home? Same format: two tracks of Deep Techno, fat grooves and aerial melodies made for the dance floor. Almost made on the dance floor.
True! Digitaline's sound is always very inspired by their live performances and with those two tracks the boys wonderfully managed to transpose the best of their live skills, energy and dynamic. Before finally being released here, both tracks have been played live on many floors throughout 2011, adjusted slowly set after set to touch every soul listening.
A-side Neon is a massive groove infecting the entire track through long breaks, while synth strings generate waves of tension in the piece.
B-side Comet is build around a big round bassline and concret noises that give the track its organic motion. The melodies of the track seem to come out of a fairy tale, dreamy arpeggios that defy the laws of gravity.

After a brief production hiatus on the Zurich based Cityfox label, Cadenza once again welcome Swiss based duo Digitaline back in to the fold for our 55th release. Having first risen to prominence via their Anticlockwise LP, (Cadenza14) the 'Okoubaka' EP is proof that Laurent Bovey aka Laps and Gregory Poncet aka Gregorythme have lost none of their production flair since. In actual fact, the intervening years have been particularly fruitful, with the duo's work remixed by Luciano, as well as solo success, with the '080808' EP in particular garnering the pair kudos aplenty. This latest release, entitled the 'Okoubaka' EP, again showcases the produces diversity, with both a dancefloor tailored house sound and dark, dubby, atmospheric techno represented in equal measure. The two track EP kicks off with 'Kaya', a track that perfectly fits the Cadenza aesthetic. Gliding throughout with an acid heavy bass line and a barrage of heavy beats, the pair's penchant for melody is also apparent, before subtle filters and a softly spoken vocal lift the track to higher house oriented planes. Funky, groovy and with just enough oomph to get bodies moving on the dance floor, expect it to work a treat wherever it's unleashed. The flip side features 'Okoubaka' - a more attitude laden, techno affair, whereby harsh, soulless beats, brash synths and an onslaught of spooky effects heighten the tracks eerie vibe. Sure to create the perfect backdrop for the techno Dj intent on injecting a menacing tone in to the start of his/her set, 'Okoubaka' is atmospheric, trippy techno at its finest. Mere months after releasing their Anticlockwise album, Digitaline are back with a big, cresting wave of a tune, Honolulu, backed by an equally massive remix by Luciano himself. Digitaline—the Lausanne/Berlin-based duo of Laps and Gregorythme—pull out all the stops on Honolulu - Digitaline's Kamehameha I Version. In surfing, you'd call this one a triple-overhead, fit only for long boards. Make that really long boards, as the track is a 17-minute long thrill ride of choppy white water and tubing smooth as glass. Skewed tribal drumming and scattershot percussion kick things off with a generous intro that grows and grows, building tension with eerie keyboard smears and snatches of murmured vocals. The groove is so corkscrewed it's almost, well, screwy, silencing the kickdrumand coasting on the offbeats before diving back into the fray with a splash of handclaps. An insistent bass bounce is the skeg keeping things on course until, roughly halfway in, the low end opens up and whoosh: smooth
cruising through deep blue waters flecked silver and gold, as elements tumble into the depths and surface again, spluttering, borne steadily forward on a pulse as regular as the tide. Challenging? You bet, but that's the beauty of it: the sticker may say "Don't try this at home," but you simply can't resist riding this one. On Luciano's Liliuokalani Remix, he wrings things out and brings it all back to dry land,
focusing his attentions on sticks 'n' stones percussion and nosing his way into a labyrinth of handclaps and delay. Where so much of Digitaline's Kamehameha I track is about subtraction, sucking out the beats where you expect them to be, Luciano's Liliuokalani remix is its additive inverse, every so subtly laying down layer after layer of chattering percussion and misty delay, until every molecule in the sound field seems to sparkle with energy. Everywhere you listen, in the space behind every note, something is happening; every sound seems fringed with tiny tendrils. But this sheen of microscopic activity never stops Luciano's single minded pursuit of the groove. For all the complexity of its interlocking rhythms, Liliuokalani Remix is all about losing yourself in the beat. For 15 minutes, that's all there is:
one enormous pulse knitted out of dozens of clockwork dials, sweeping you up in the onrush. It's one of the most rhythmically sophisticated and seductive things Luciano has done yet. Tick tock, you don't stop: presenting Anticlockwise, the debut album from Digitaline,aka the Swiss duo of Gregorythme and Laps. After their debut single Rubicube,released in 2005 on Cadenza Records (Cadenza 7), Anticlockwise is the label’s first attempt towards a more comprehensive view on the creative production of the duo. Digitaline have honed their craft with extensive stage experience. Performing locally at institutions like Zürich's Street Parade and the legendary Dachantine, and internationally at clubs like Panoramabar, Fabric, Rex and Cocoon, the pair has flipped their groovy, minimalist studio experiments into a kick-ass live show that's as "mega" as its details are "micro." It's probably not surprising that Digitaline are Swiss: you don't find timekeeping this diamondsharp anywhere else. But if their structures move like clockwork—precise configurations of smooth arcs, straight lines and right angles, like a black and white Mondrian—what they fill in around the grid is anything but rigid.
Spontaneity and flux are key. Bright harmonics shower everything in sparks, and tiny plaintive sounds plunge like diving birds. Drum tuning and delay timing are in constant motion; everything modulates everything else. These aren't the ubiquitous clicks and glitches of minimal, but something far more inspired. Fans of Akufen and Pantytec will recognize in Digitaline a similar sense of color: dynamic, chameleonic, irisdescent. But it's not just the sound design. Digitaline's beats offer a sense of groove that's frankly irresistible, a classic jacking vibe kitted out in alien tones and melodies that dance on the edge of melancholy. The marvellous Chilean blooded "Llovizna", produced by the talented Felipe Venegas & Francisco Allendes was originally released in 2009 on Cadenza 40th vinyl release. We are delighted to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its publication with a crisp remix by the mighty Luciano and a rework hot off the press by its original writers. Furthermore, there will be another heavyweight remixer,a big surprise and an appreciated comeback: Loco Dice need no introduction, and his remix of this Cadenza classic leaves us speechless. A magnificent bond of the original latin vibes and astonishing peak-time sound manipulation with a relentless pace. The remixes and the rework will be released both on a vinyl E.P. and in digital format.
"Llovizna" is a track with an indissoluble bound with Cadenza's South America roots, a bound perpetually fortified by the origin of many of the artists involved with the label, and by the choice to host amazing massive events in Chile and in the rest of the continent. A funky bass line and full- bodied reverberating jazz drums make out Luciano's bubbly and shiny remix. The cutting edge climactic sequencing of its synthesisers and the seasoned use of percussive breaks and fills exalt the emotional interlude of the folkloric female Latin chant, just before a fully fledged dancefloor oriented restart.
The rework delivered by Felipe and Francisco starts off banging with a resolved bass drum, rattling shakers and fierce hi-hats. an innate instinct for peak-time bangers. The opening track, "Congo Congo" is a
dark ride over abysmal tom-tom drums, lively percussions and a gloomy bass lead,
ignited dramatically by an ensemble of wide synthetic stabs and chords. In its "Dub-
Mix", the drums and the percussion become lighter without diminishing its dynamic
tension. The overall weight of the leads and the stabs is reduced, leaving more space
to its intense piano and string chords and swinging sub bass. "Shimza - Secret
Melodies" starts with an obscure bass line, but the intense twist of fractioned rolls
and arpeggios bring an ascending piano progression that quickly blooms into an
uplifting symphony. "Selector" is a deeper cut that keeps the gaze on the dancefloor:
the incessant hand clapping and a cloud of low frequencies bumps unexpectedly

Originally released in 2014, Luciano's 'The Great Amael' is an enchanting and endearing trip; a lo-fi bubbling groove and dusted Hammond organs that hustle along whilst live percussion cuts through the oceanic atmospherics. Two years on, and Cadenza Music call upon a brace of remixers to provide fresh and unique interpretations of this hidden gem in Luciano's catalogue.

Having recently released his first album in over 10 years, Matthew Dear AKA Audion boldly steps up to the mantle and stamps his intelligent techno sound all over 'Amael' in the first of our remixes. Cutting a sprightly pace from the off, Audion melts stuttering sine waves and bulging tones over concrete beats, tweaking in the original organ riff and fathoms deep pads whilst adding additional vocal refrains as he playfully teases the arrangement before dropping a superb riff in his 'Backward Melody' Remix, which takes a most psychedelic and unexpected twist!

Two other musical heavyweights collaborate on the second of the remixes; Phil Moffa and Seth Troxler are no studio strangers, having released a joint project on the British Hypercolour label last year, and remixed for Tiga a few months back. Their LSOS LOVE/GOD Remix builds from ambient beginnings, save for a rhythm carved out of spongy electronics, a sturdy beat kicking in and setting the controls destination unknown, as the duo steer through breathy vocal cuts and propelling bass, stripping the remix back before leaping back into hyperspace with some adventurous and dubbed out vibes, before coming back down for landing with those unmistakable pads from Luciano's original.

A fitting remix package that brings together four of the electronic music scene's most dynamic talents, Luciano's music is given that extra special touch by respected and like minded individuals that will continue it's work on the more discerning dancefloors this Autumn.

Philippe Quenum returns to Cadenza Music with 'Solitaire', some thirteen years after helping kick start the Swiss label with the 2003 release 'Orange Mistake'/'Funky Dandy'. This groundbreaking single, co-produced with Luciano, has since become a landmark release, not just for the label, but also as the benchmark for the micro-house and minimal tech-house genre that developed over the decade.

With a music career than spans back to the mid-80s (dancing in NYC as part of the breakdance troupe, The Magnificent Force), Quenum found his forte with house music, both as a DJ, and as a producer and label owner. Setting up the Access 58 label in 1998 as a platform for his music and collaborations, Quenum has consistently released over the years for labels like Crosstown Rebels, Soma, alphahouse, Thema and Trapez LTD.

'Solitaire' finds Quenum on fine form; on the lead track, dubby FX and bass shaking shots roll out over an urgent disco beat, muted brass and technoid stabs fire from all directions as the tension building pads flourish. Shadowy forces are at play on 'Mystic'; discordant sounds echo and bellow over reverberating percussion and a dense back beat that fire into life with shuffling hi-hats. Wrapping up this welcome return to the label is 'Mystery'; whipping snares and industrial clangs rumble over the urgent drums for more hypnotizing dancefloor work from Philippe!

Electronic music has always had a special affiliation with space, and the sounds of the cosmos. An inherent love of all things sci-fi, galactic and otherworldy has always been a common thread, especially with techno producers, and so it's always a pleasure to come into greater contact with the science of these sounds when creating new music.
Project ALMA is a new collaboration between Luciano's Cadenza Records label and the ALMA Sounds initiative that bridges two sets of individual passions; that of Luciano's love for music, and ALMA astronomer Antonio Hales' love of the universe. Their 20 years + relationship has finally had the opportunity to cross paths, and Luciano, alongside fellow producers Felipe Venegas and Diego Errázuriz, have produced this special release using sounds collected from the ALMA resource library.
Each producer worked with various source sounds, incorporating these planetary samples into their compositions; Luciano takes us on a trip to Orion in his own inimitable style, whilst Felipe Venegas goes deeper with a truly spatial piece. Diego Errázuriz opts for a beatless excursion that marrys soft and atmospheric piano to the planetary tones.
The ALMA observatory is an astronomical interferometer of radio telescopes in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. The collection of 66 telescopes provides an insight into star birth, and detailed imaging of local star and planet formations, by observing millimeter and submilimeter wavelengths.
ALMA Sounds is an initiative that seeks to interpret and decode the frequencies of the Universe, transforming them into sounds that can then be used by artists around the world to compose, share and create a community united around a search that has captivated humans for thousands of years.

Swiss DJ & producer, Mirko Loko, continued to indulge in his intergalactic persuasions on last year's long player "Comet Plan". Released on Cadenza, Mirko's second album was enthusiastically received and picked up many fans for its collection of blissfull and wide-eyed electronica and techno sounds. Featured guests on the album included dOP's vocalist, JAW, and Francesco Tristano.

12 months on, and "Comet Plan" gets revisited and remixed by two stellar names from the electronic dance community.

Sebastian Mullaert is well known for partnership with Marcus Henriksson as Minilogue, the Swedish duo responsible for killer albums & singles for the likes of Cocoon, Silver Planet and Wagon Repair. Mullaert plumps for a solo remix of "Venus" of epic proportions, split into two versions; "Phaze One" and "Phaze Two". An organic trip through the cosmos, Mullaert tweaks and teases over two seductively trippy versions, showing us a master class in minimal electronics.

Hailing from Dallas, Brett Johnson has become synonymous with masterful jackin house music via singles for Derrick Carter's Classic, DJ Sneak's Magnetic, Freerange and Visionquest. Brett tackles "U Special" featuring JAW, and turn in a very tasty Remix and Instrumental version. Soulful, spacey and groovy in equal doses, Brett delivers the goods in abundance on these mixes.

A tight remix package that bows respectfully to Mirko's original visions, and a timely reminder, to the uninitiated, to check out the album for further inspection.

Short info:
Sebastian Fiegen rolls out his debut solo release for Cadenza Records this Spring, with a trio of excellent house cuts on the 'Theofidelity' EP. The German producer has been crafting quality productions for some time now under aliases and collaborations, and it's on Luciano's label where he makes his mark as a solo artist.
'Dopeman' opens the EP with a rolling Chi-town house style groove, a simple yet effective filtered vocal loop and sustained strings harvest the feel good vibes over its solid beats. Fiegen keeps up the pace with 'Anando', more drum led house grooves with a high production value, the vocal refrain cutting in and out of the mix whilst the simplistic bassline and woody percussion maintains the bouncing vibes.
Closing the EP is 'TH01', again coming correct with the 'feel good factor' with its use of the looped sample and lazy, hypnotizing drums. A cracking debut production from Fiegen, and a well rounded release for Cadenza.

Spanish DJ & producer, Eduardo De La Calle, has continued to explore the outer limits of the electronic palette since his Cadenza Records debut back in 2013, clocking up stellar releases for the likes of Mule Musiq, Hivern Discs, Be As One and Nonplus over the last couple of years.
Eduardo returns to Cadenza in February with the 'Anima Animus' single, coupling two tracks of refined techno for your listening pleasure. Taking inspiration from the psychologist/philosopher Carl Jung's concept of anima and animus (and do take the time to explore this), Eduardo marries arpeggiated synths and melodic chords with a soft kick and tantalizing hats, producing a slick piece of reflective techno that's alive with melody and groove.
On 'North Pole', we get more of the signature 'De La Calle' sound; subaquatic bass and searing, melancholic strings play out over a steady mechanical beat, nodding its head not only to the Detroit masters but also to the European New Wave sounds that influenced the Motor City artists in the first instance.
Another assured single release from Eduardo that will further solidify his place in the current electronic music landscape.

Cadenza Music opens up its 2016 account with the debut single from Swiss producers, Rare Movement feat. Disco Channel.
Cutting their teeth on the DJ circuit for many years, and playing alongside such esteemed jocks as Seth Troxler, Ricardo Villalobos (who mastered the audio on these tracks), Jamie Jones and Luciano (who ultimately signed this single to Cadenza), the guys have crafted a pair of tracks that sit right in the DJ sets of the aforementioned company.

'Rare 007' combines tension building synths and a wandering bassline, wrapped up tight in solid drum groove, its hypnotizing tones carving out a most useful club tool. On the flip side, 'Rare 011' digs deeper, with cinematic string sweeps over the sparse and bass heavy kick drum. Flashes of vocal refrains and micro percussion fly in and out of the arrangement as the melodic elements give this one a real sense of drama as the track blossoms into life. A very accomplished debut from the guys will no doubt provide a real 'dancefloor moment' in the right setting, and no surprise that Villalobos gave these tracks the audio master that they deserve.

You can guarantee that Luciano always comes through with a signature tune once a year, and of late has leisurely road tested singles like 'Rise Of Angel' and 'Cachai' at clubs, festivals and at his Ibiza residencies for full seasons, before releasing the fruits of his labor.

And so 2015 throws up "7directions" featuring JAW on the vocal, a mesmerizing and low-slung track that's already getting pole position in Luciano's sets, ending his momentous off-Sonar show at El Poble Espanyol with it, as well as becoming a staple at his weekly Vagabundos residency at Space in Ibiza this season.

New York house royalty, Dennis Ferrer, sprinkles the track with his own inimitable style, a sound that has crafted hit records and undergound bombs since the 90s, for labels like Nite Grooves, Defected, Ibadan and his own Objektivity label.

And to complete this huge package, Matthew Herbert joins the party with a head scrambling "One Direction Dub" mix. The UK sound designer has mesmerized and innovated over the last two decades with some stunning music on his own Accidental label as well as remixes for the likes of Moloko, Jamie XX, Björk and a host of others.

On the Original Mix, brooding pads and spikey synths linger over a spacious drum pattern, live drum fills and claps bouncing off the bass pulses, as wandering keys usher in the unmistakable tones of JAW AKA Jonathan Illel, the musician and vocalist extraordinaire who ply's his trade with the French electronic group DOP and as a guest on recordings from artists like Mirko Loko and Guillaume & The Coutu Dumounts amongst many others.

"7directions" is perhaps one of Luciano's more understated productions; it's a sprawling and sultry journey, with deft melodic touches and intricate production techniques, taking care not to become cluttered, rather using the space is enunciate the sheer hypnotism stored within and for JAWs vocals to glide over the listener without fanfare or dramatic clichés.

Cadenza Records displays a deft touch in showcasing new talent, just as much as it leans on its core of established producers. The 'Split' EP shines a bright light on the musical endeavors of Enrico Gasperini AKA gAs, and fellow Italian, Lino Pugliese.
One side of vinyl each, and gAs opens up Side A with 'Rack Attack', its woody hits and scattering hi-hats holding a solid groove whilst gentle keys entwine a melodic touch with a stuttering synth riff that's designed to circulate around the brain. Splashes of cymbals and white noise provide the all important drama as the track rises to a crescendo. Enrico's second contribution, 'Agogo', keeps up the ante with another slice of exquisite house grooves. The inner-city street ambience opening gives way to an undeniably funky rhythm track, incessant spongy stabs and frenzied percussion that makes this one a sure fire winner.

Over on Side B, Lino Pugliese gets to flex his sonic palette after recent releases on Cadenza Lab and Memento. 'Banging On Your Door' takes its time to unfurl; a percussive swing not too dissimilar to the Stones' 'Sympathy For The Devil' sets the tone magnificently, as low frequency synth sweeps and distant vocal effects build, the kick drum jolting the track into life with bursts of furry snares and handclaps. More ambient soaked business on 'Aniwama' as Lino forges melodious piano and clanging ride cymbals with low end sonics as the track deconstructs as quickly as it builds, tearing up the arrangement rule books to create a unique cut that can perform as a mood-setting piece just as well as a peak time genre-shifter.
