Buttrich is known for his deft hand with spacious, warm tracks that crackle and snap. His propulsive techno and house music re filled with compressed living sounds. On tracks like "Fireball" and "Magic Market", crisp percussion shimmers around snug-fitting basslines, with snares and toms moving the speaker cones insistently. "Fireball" will quietly smash the dancefloor, with rhythms so taut you could bounce nickels off them. The heavy kick of "Rocket" anchors it to agitated drums slowly enveloped by a melodic soup, inflected with disrupted noises as it sweeps over the listener. Each song pays testament to this Grammy-nominated artist's fluid approach to music composition - an ability to converse with machines, and dive deep into the circuitry of a song. Buttrich has spent recent years developing a sound that appeals to both sides of the brain: having dropped records on labels such as Planet E, Four:Twenty, Cocoon, Poker Flat and Desolat that encompass the entire spectrum between dreaminess, intuition, warmth, melancholy, and highly calibrated dancefloor precision. Meanwhile his catalogue stretches round some of the most influential dance tracks heard around the globe since 1992.
Crash Test is a long player, a four to the floor album that can be listened to from start to finish; an organic sequence of shifting moods to sublimate existing minimal house or techno paradigms. The LP is shaded with bass weight: a reflective, meandering interpretation of the grooves that have always inspired Buttrich: echoes of hip hop, jazz, reggae and soul. Emotive tangents hover, punctuated with found sounds and textures recorded in public spaces.
This album is intended as an expression of a certain time and space: a collection of tracks that could only have been woven together at this turbulent point in history. The album contains more acoustic and analog instruments than Martin Buttrich usually uses, and attempts to bridge a gap between imagined and audible worlds. A bridge from the cosy confines of a studio to the outer spaces, in which each tune is re-contextualised.

Buttrich's second EP for Cocoon couldn't prove better his prediction that in 2008, Minimal Techno will be containing more warm and melodic components. Strangely familiar but always surprising, "Again" and "I Lost My Wallet" provide us with bassprone reduction somewhere in between Techno and House, and harmony bits that remind of Caribbean Calypso sounds provide the feeling of the approaching summer – which makes both tracks perfect for the final of the open air season 2008.

Martin Buttrich is a phenomenon. Since 1995, the
producer and sound engineer has been involved in various
projects and remixes, and has proven his sense for the
right sound in many productions for artists like Timo Maas
and Loco Dice. Despite that, he only has released seven
records under his own name, however that doesn't mean
this releases haven't caught the attention of the public. The
first to name are his productions for Planet E and Poker
Flat Recordings. Buttrich's most remarkable talent is that
he is able to find a special sound for the artist he's coproducing
and even for the different labels, which is always
matching perfectly to the artist or label. The same is true
for his debut on Cocoon Recordings. Whereas the focus
on the Planet E records was on a playful modulating
bassline that was playing with effects and breaks, "Hunter"
is more based on the beat. Combined with hypnotic driving
vocal snippets and warm synthie sounds, Buttrich has
created two great DJ tools, that have enormous power on
the dancefloor and perfectly carry on the series of
marvellous releases on Cocoon Recordings: Eulberg,
David K, Fuckaponydelic or Pig&Dan.

The Hannover (Germany) based producer is the ingenious mastermind behind the Time Tools studio and co-producer for high profile artists like Timo Maas or Loco Dice. Although he‘s been working as a producer for more than ten years, he only recently started to release under his real name and dropped 12“es on Four.Twenty (2004) and on Carl Craig‘s Planet-E („Full Clip“, 2006) and delivered a remix for O‘Brien-Docker („Totally Alright“), before he joined Poker Flat for an exclusive Track („Snapshots“) on the upcoming Poker Flat Volume 5 album. Now we are proud to present „Cloudy Bay“ his debut EP for Poker Flat. Once more the new 3-tracker proves his enormous skills.„Cloudy Bay“ is a catchy and simply beautiful track with exciting strings and a wicked break which bring up the right dose of ecstasy on the floor. The B-side holds two more high-spirited tracks with „What‘s Your Name“ being a bit more relaxed and deep, while „Lazy Bastard“ edges upwards again to a good pace with a great arrangement and a 100% positive vibe. Planet E looks to the heart of Detroit’s club culture for the debut appearance on the label from Motor City mainstay, Mister Joshooa. A DJ and sound engineer closely intertwined with the city’s music scene, regularly found behind the decks at clubs like TV Lounge and Lincoln Factory and having previously appeared on Carl Craig’s celebrated Detroit Love compilation, ‘Settle Down’ introduces four tracks that cement Mister Joshooa’s lucid, far-out take on house.

Lead track ‘Settle Down’ distills the energies and influence of the scene into a rubber-jointed, rolling introduction that vibrates with energy and anticipation, nailing a bassline that could run for hours and injecting trippy effects, live percussion and out-there vocals drawing in dancers. ‘Snake Oil’ meanwhile strips things way back, squeezing plenty of juice for the floor from a tunnelling, lightly psychedelic arrangement, offering bang-for-buck deepness that’s no scam.

The year is 1989. Techno’s second generation has begun to permeate the globe leading a young Carl Craig to a tiny village in the countryside of Belgium. It is here, undistracted and determined to break out, that Craig encounters one of the country’s only drum machines, an Alesis controlled midi-808. In a single session he composes and mixes a handful of records that are still to this day regarded as some of his most raw and explosive contributions to the fabric of electronic music history.

Carl revisits this fateful chapter through the lens of a famed cut from his Psyche alias ‘From Beyond’, with a ‘C2 2023 Mix’ and remixes from Seth Troxler, Ataxia and Admn, out July 14 on Planet E Communications.

The Psyche alias, known for early Transmat releases like ‘Crack\down’ and ‘Elements’, embodied a stripped back, less sample based yin attitude to the yang of Carl’s more aggressive 69 and sample-forward BFC and Paperclip People identities. ‘From Beyond’, first released in 1990 via the ‘Crackdown’ 12” on Transmat, offers an eerie glimpse into the simplistic production that came through Carl’s mastery of the 808 and the sonic value of restricting himself to this movement defining tool.

This new ‘From Beyond’ package sees Carl lift and bend the original in his ‘C2 2023 Mix’ alongside a package of remixes from artists near to the hearts of Detroit and the Planet E fold. Seth Troxler brings a subdued acid tinge to the package, while label regular Ataxia pays homage to the source material with a renewed percussive energy, followed by a soulful rework by Admn.

Whether it be through the 30 year repertoire of his seminal Planet E, his Party / After-Party sound and light installation now on display at Los Angeles’ MOCA, or his continuous work as a champion of Black-led creativity, the Carl Craig mission remains the same: to always rep Detroit and be the realest mutha f***a alive.

Revered house mainstay Junior Sanchez makes his debut on Carl Craig’s renowned Planet E Communications imprint today with the digital release of his latest EP ‘‘Art O Fact’ out now with a 12” to come this July. Hailing from New Jersey, Sanchez remains a pioneering force in house music for over three decades and a close ally of Craig’s.

‘Art O Fact’ is an exemplar of the energized rhythm and infectious groove that has become synonymous with Sanchez’s work and genre defining productions. The package seamlessly connects scenes and eras, paying homage to the soulful sonic atmosphere of Detroit, Junior Sanchez’s says:

“Art O Fact -- was created purely and simply out of creative inspiration. I walked into the studio one morning not really knowing what to do, so I let my inspiration guide me and my inspiration really was Detroit. I thought about that city, what it meant to me and what techno really meant to my heart. I have loved so many records by Carl Craig, DJ ROLANDO, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins, so the result is something really beautiful and organic, and the fact that it's coming out on Carl Craig's planet E imprint is such an honor.”

In addition to the original mix, the ‘Art O Fact’ EP features a bouncy ‘Luv4Detroit’ Dub, energized edit, and melodic reprise.

Sanchez’s eclectic palette can be credited in part to his time spent in the sonic melting pot of New York City in the 1990s. A pillar of the underground club scene, Junior Sanchez began DJing at iconic New York City institutions such as Limelight and Club USA at the mere age of 13 and released his first track on iconic house imprint Strictly Rhythm at age 15. Sanchez went on to co-found Da Mongaloids collective, composed of the likes of Daft Punk, Armand van Helden, LaidbackLuke, and more which laid the foundation for him to form multi-generational turntablism trio S-Men alongside Roger Sanchez and DJ Sneak.

Sanchez's extensive repertoire of collaborators includes Madonna, Ariana Grande, Good Charlotte, Azealia Banks and more while his own imprints Cube Recordings and Brobot Records have seen releases from the likes of Felix Da Housecat, Sébastien Léger, and Steve Mac.

Led by legendary Detroit techno pioneer Carl Craig, Planet E Communications has been an integral force in shaping electronic music for the past thirty years. Standing testament to the timeless spirit of techno, over the past two years alone Carl has released the leftfield ‘Attenuator’ jazz fusion project from himself and Moritz Von Oswald, DJ Holographic’s multi-genre Detroit Love Vol. 5, and the first electronic music album from Mexican-American percussionist Francisco Mora-Catlett. Having made a huge impact amid Carl Craig’s celebrated 2019 entry in Planet E's Detroit Love mix compilation series, Ataxia's anthemic ‘Oblivion’ arrives on vinyl for the first time alongside a new cut, ‘Michaelangelos’. Each track takes Ataxia’s notoriously detailed production techniques and applies them to a widescreen, enveloping template.

Constructed from rubbery basslines, wormholes of rave power and a structure that applies tension and release to killer effect, ‘Oblivion’ has continued to engross dancers since it’s digital release, transmitting an increasingly rare blend of minimal yet maximal rave pleasures.

On ‘Michaelangelos’, Ataxia further demonstrates a fluid ability to keep listeners on their toes, shuffling the deck but applying the same irresistible tricks to a rhythmic, tripping cut and the unexpected sample at its core.
