Lifetime is the fourth album from Australian producer Deepchild, released on Sydney-based label Future Classic. With glowing 12 inch reviews, remix work, and significant DJ support leading up to its release, it places Deepchild solidly in the ranks of his international peers and marks the start of an exciting and fresh chapter for Il Bambino Profundo. Emerging after almost three years, Lifetime is the follow up to the critically acclaimed What's Going Wrong? A newly svelte Deepchild sheds the dreads and with them any trace of musician indecision, delivering his most razor-sharp, engaging and sonically expansive work to date. Prepare to be surprised. Lifetime responds to the melancholy dub-tronica of What's Going Wrong? with muscle and sinew. The result is an exceptionally mature dancefloor focussed montage and synthesis of musical experience from Sydney to Berlin, Detroit, Chicago and Jamaica. Basic Channel's dub minimalism flirts with fragments of Dr Dre, King Tubby and Georgio Moroder, whilst Beyonce and Carl Craig drink cognac (and dance cheek to cheek) in the back room. The omnipresent Marvin Gaye appears to be discussing the politics of seduction with the boys from Kraftwerk, and if you listen closely you may just make out Peter Tosh humming a tune with Matthew Herbert, whilst Richie Hawtin mixes the drinks and reminisces about peak time at Tresor. Kodwo Eshun appears to be discussing architecture with one of the Parliament boys, but by the looks of things George Clinton just wants to get his freak on... Lifetime sits defiantly against the backdrop of electro-rock's current revival; a jubilant embrace of low-slung post-disco tech, where boogie-down is the only label you'd possibly concern yourself with wearing, and soul is not a dirty word. Drop the pretension, you are all welcome here. This is a sonic space free from platitudes or club cliches; a melting pot of musical experience and history, edited with loving kindness and a razor-sharp tungsten blade. Are you ready to jack?
