Past Due is back digging even deeper into the world of obscure, highly sought-after boogie funk. This time we land in Miami, 1986–87, at the doorstep of the Palmer brothers’ short-lived but now cult-favorite imprint, Gold Star Records.
As Gary Palmer recalls, Gold Star was a passion project — a moment where each of the brothers took turns writing and producing a handful of singles that would later become serious collector bait. Small runs, big sound, and pure Miami energy.
For this release, the spotlight is on Tempess, a studio project crafted by the Palmers around one of the most in-demand vocalists in Miami at the time, Johnny Bokat (pictured on the sleeve). The collaboration yielded two standout singles: “So Fine” and “So Nice.”

Jerome Derradji’s Past Due Records is proud to announce the first part in a reissue series of Lee Moore’s rarest and meanest boogie funk tracks originally produced for his labels Score Records and LM Records, circa 1981-85.
Lee Moore produced the seminal soul stomper “Ain’t Gonna Spread Myself” in 1971 for Michigan-based label Tri-City. While this 7” is fantastic, nothing could have predicted what Lee Moore would unleash in the studio, out of his own frustration, a decade later.
Fast forward to 1979 in Memphis, Tennessee, Lee released the disco hit “Reachin’ Out (For Your Love),” a song he co-wrote with his then-wife Patricia Moore, on Source Records. Lee still claims the song inspired “Ring My Bell” after he played it to the TK Disco execs.
Obviously fed up with major labels and their shady biz, Lee then decided to work on new material with Patricia Moore. Lee hired Stax musicians, including guitarist Michael Toles, keyboard player Lester Snell, and drummer Willie Hall, all members of the Isaac Hayes Movement. He also hired bassist Ray Griffin who recorded numerous sessions for both Stax and Malaco Records.
Lee, his wife, and the studio band locked themselves in the legendary Sound Of Memphis studio with a bunch of forward thinking engineers, such as Paul Zaleski, and created the music that would soon be released on their own label, Score Records, supposedly named after scoring cocaine during a studio session in 1980.
Score records never achieved any commercial success as Lee, his team, and the studio crew were more focused on recording and producing music than selling records, wanting to get them played on the radio or live. They would, for example, spend “two weeks working on a snare drum sound”, just so it matched their vision of future funk.
As rare as can be, what came out of these sessions is now considered the holy grail of Memphis boogie funk, and its superior quality is undeniable. Original Score vinyl releases are so rare that only a handful of aficionados around the world own copies, and their prices are astronomical.
Jerome Derradji is thrilled to reissue the first four Score releases on vinyl & digitally for the first time since their release via Past Due Records as an introduction to a comprehensive Lee Moore Anthology that will be released later this year.

His first album for LA based AVI record 'The Adventures of Captain Sky' was a smash hit and established Captain Sky as a serious Afro Funk artist right next to Detroit’s George Clinton and Bootsy Collins.The first song on the album, Moonchild was released as a very limited promo 12-inch and remixed by Chicago radio DJ Peter Lewicki. The result is a timeless cosmic disco tune that may be one of the best disco song ever made.

In 1983, Chateau, a San Francisco based boogie funk band, won the KRE Radio Hot Fun In The Sun Battle of the Bands in Mosswood Park, Oakland. As a prize, they received $5000 (approximately 8 hours) of studio time and a pressing run of 200 45s.Chateau included Alan Ross on lead vocals and percussion, singer Damara 'Candy' Stepney, and Kevin Dailey who sang and played saxophone, bass, and guitar.

Richie Weeks' work as a singer, songwriter, musician, and producer was foundational to New York's disco, boogie funk, house scenes and beyond. From the late 1970s right through to the 1990s he racked up releases on a multitude of labels in the USA and abroad while leading groups such as Weeks & Co. and The Jammers and recording as Bambu, Major Weeks and Jiraffe. Past Due Records due signed Weeks in 2019 and set about realigning his legacy. This triple album of previously unreleased music, cut to a DJ-friendly template of two tracks per side, focusses in on the eye of the disco storm, namely the years 1978-9, and the 12 tracks instantly transport you back to a NYC of steaming sidewalks and liberated fire hydrants. These are immaculately crafted songs, delivered with smooth confidence by Weeks, but arranged with plenty of instrumental grooving - check the slinky bassline on 'Find That Disco Rhythm" (version 2)' or the blissful, elongated funk-stye intro to 'Love Magician' for further proof.

Cumbia Sabanera is one of many foundational music traditions that have been born in the tucked away Montes de Maria region of Colombia’s Caribbean enclave. At the front of this particular sabanera style sits el acordeón, a magical squeezebox of seductive melodies that, combined with the quintessential elements of the cumbia rhythm section, has begat a worldwide phenomenon several times over. Each generation seems to bring forth another cumbia craze that echoes from the savanna out into the Caribbean Sea, oscillating beyond into the international landscape. One of the true maestros, at the very heart of this original movement, is the bonafide and widely recognized El Rey de la Cumbia, Andrés Landero. Put simply, Andrés Landero is a legendary practitioner of the esteemed instrument, with a school of followers and admirers who played and studied with him from the 1950s until his passing in 2000. His performances, discography and compositions are beyond reproach, and accordionists the world over have taken up this same enchanting Hohner instrument to carry on Landero’s craft through his well-formed cumbia sub-culture. As the wider cumbia movement has shapeshifted throughout its time in different countries, across decades with the aid of modern innovations, there remains a devoted tradition to the roots of the accordion-based sound and cumbia sabanera in its most sincere and organic form. Even at the height of international popularity, with talent emerging from all corners of the world’s musical meridians, there is no heir more appropriate to carry on the legacy of Andrés Landero than his very own grandson. These two selections encapsulate the movement of the current cumbia nexus, from an ode to the Colombian countryside traditions in “Santa Lucia” to the international ascent of cumbia’s modern path in “Cumbia Sin Fronteras” (Cumbia Without Borders). Sonically, these two tracks reach for a harmonious balance between raw, traditional, and truly unique, and their finished form on the preferred 7-inch format means they’re destined to reach the hands of selectors and sonideros worldwide, just as the elder Landero’s records did across decades and generations. Originally released way back in 2001 on the Marc et Claude's label, the initial pressing has surged in value over the past few years due to its gradually increasing scarcity, no doubt due to its appearance in many underground sets. A lot of recent interest was caused by 'Electric Nite' being the final track in Jane Fitz's legendary set at Houghton 2025, which has been archived by Resident Advisor and has now had over 110,000 listens (!)
In fact, both 'Electric Nite' and 'Atmospheric' are longform psychedelic-tinged Techno/Trance beauties, perfect late night material for the more open-minded DJs and dancers out there.

Bologna born Italo Disco legend Celso Valli’s ‘Tantra’ project had one aim; to push the boundaries of disco! Released in 1979 in the vein of Cerrone and Giorgio Moroder, ‘Hills of Katmandu’ is a unique, progressive slice of classic Italo Disco. The pulsating ‘Moroder-on-steroids bassline’, menacing female vocal and warbling synths take you on a trippy disco journey. The track became a huge dancefloor anthem at legendary clubs such as The Loft and The Saint in New York and Baia Degli Angeli in Rimini.
Originally available on vinyl in 1982 on San Francisco’s “Hot Classics” DJ Service”, Patrick Cowley’s “Original Underground Mix” is a work of pure genius that unleashes his skills on the synths and somehow manages to surpass the original.
High Fashion Music have enrolled Ben Liebrand to restore all the original remix-tapes, managing to re-edit and adjust each and every nuance to perfection, taking away any and all flaws which appeared in the original and it’s acetates, so that it is now steady preserving the original Hi NRG sound.
This is the first time this restored and upgraded version has been released.
On the flip-side, there is the original 16’20 minutes version of the Jurgen Koppers mix, an extended re-edit of the original Celso Valli version, which appeared first on Disconet in 1979, and in the following year on the US (Importe/12) release of the “Tantra – the Double Album” longplayer.

Tokyo's Realrockdesign collective marks a full 30 years of cross-disciplinary creativity with the first of a planned trilogy. The A-side hands over a crown jewel from West Coast legend DJ Garth's Grayhound catalogue in 'Twenty Minutes Of Disco Glory', which gets remixed by DJ Harvey with a slow, deep, dark and come-to-me groove with a fizzy motif lingering like a trapped bee. The flip turns to German veteran Nectar, who is enjoying some deserved time back in the spotlight and shows why here: 'Fairy Trails' is a deliciously psychedelic descent into the underworld that perfectly befits its title. 'What Tha?' is paranoid and unsure with a writhing bassline, detuned synths bringing a freaky edge and a dubby, shuffling groove that is as inviting as the rest of the track is wonderfully weird.
