Berlin-based label Ascension on Wax continues its deep, jazz-inflected trajectory with the forthcoming release A Quiet Storm EP from DFRA, arriving June on 12" vinyl and digital formats (Cat No: AOW005). Available to buy and pre-order from May 15, the EP showcases DFRA's refined blend of soul, jazz, and classic house sensibilities, enriched further by a remix from Detroit's Jon Dixon.
Hailing from Colombia and now based in Buenos Aires, DFRA (Diego Ruiz) brings a deeply musical approach shaped by formal studies in composition and a lifelong immersion in hip-hop, gospel, soul, and disco. His productions balance two complementary sides, lush, jazz-rooted musicality and the raw, driving energy of Detroit and Chicago house. This duality is fully realised across A Quiet Storm EP, marking another step in his evolving sonic identity.
The title track, "Quiet Storm," opens the record with a deep, rolling groove elevated by exquisite saxophone work, setting an introspective yet dancefloor-ready tone. "Strings" follows with a dreamy atmosphere, rich piano textures, and a warm jazz undercurrent that highlights DFRA's compositional finesse. On "Charlene," soulful vocals intertwine with chord progressions reminiscent of early Motor City Drum Ensemble, delivering a nostalgic yet forward-looking house cut.
Completing the package, Jon Dixon reimagines "Charlene" through a distinctly Detroit lens. Stripping the track back and rebuilding it with deeper textures and signature keys, Dixon channels the spirit of Underground Resistance while pushing into more meditative territory, bridging jazz improvisation with machine-driven rhythm.
Founded in Berlin, Ascension on Wax continues to honour the legacy of jazz within house music, pairing contemporary producers with a strong visual identity and limited vinyl releases. Incoming for the second release on House Music label Ascension on Wax, AoW's co-founder Lavan is dropping his 'For The Love EP.' This raw, authentic, party-ready release is arguably his best to date and pushes the purity of the old-school house music sound, whilst bringing it into the present. Lavans notorious usage of MPC sampling and borrowed synthesisers is flowing throughout the release alongside gorgeous jazz elements. Hydro-trip specialist Black Eyes closes the EP with a subterranean, downtempo roller of a remix which gives a nod to the iconic Detroit sound championed by the late Mike Huckaby amongst many others.

'For The Love EP' follows Lavan's 'It's Happening EP' on SlothBoogie released earlier in 2024 and his feature in DJ Mag's emerging artists section. This is a gentleman who is proving his dedication to his craft.

Debuting on brand new Berlin based house music label Ascension on Wax, Irish producer Glenn Davis is here with his 8th release, Space and Time EP, featuring 4 tracks. With subtle jazz references and motifs, skilful production layering, dreamy deep house chords and vocal sampling; this is one of Davis’s most accomplished releases to date.
The tracks Space And Time and Party With Me have stunning vocals and deep house keys which form the foundations of the tracks. They have a truly hypnotic effect as they progress and take the listener on a musical journey as the different layers of the songs reveal themselves. The former is perfect for playing earlier in the night and the latter, a dance floor ready number which will be sure to get the crowd going.

world of ES — a Dutch producer, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist whose work flows effortlessly between
live performance and studio creation.

Selected from an ever-growing archive built over the years, the music emerges from a deep vault of
unreleased recordings spanning a wide range of moods and ideas. This collection offers a deeper look
into a vivid creative universe of sound and feeling — a story that unfolds through rhythm, tone, and

In 1995 The Roots burst onto the scene with their seminal debut album, Do You Want More?!!!??! that garnered critical acclaim and cemented them as a powerhouse group fusing elements of various genres with their signature live instrumentation. Thirty years later in March of 2025, The Roots played a three day, six show residency at the legendary Blue Note Jazz club in New York City where they celebrated their debut by playing it in full - performing many tracks that hadn't been performed live in decades. The performance also brought out special guest appearances from long-time collaborators, Ursula Rucker, Dice Raw and Rahzel, Godfather of Noise.
To cap off the 30 Year Anniversary, The Roots will release the full performance on vinyl. The 2xLP, gatefold package is pressed Black vinyl, and features 21 tracks. ?uestlove spent tireless hours perfecting the mixing and mastering with Glen Forrest and Colin Mohnacs to ensure all elements of the performance were represented on the vinyl.

LA-based producer Real Bad Man and Michigan rapper Willie the Kid release their new collaborative album, Midnight, via the producer's own Real Bad Man Records label. The album, which marks the producer's second collaborative project of the year following Dear Psilocybin with ZelooperZ, includes guest appearances from UK rapper Sonnyjim, New York's Lord Sko and frequent RBM collaborator Boldy James, who will be releasing his own Real Bad Man-produced album in May.

The album came together naturally for the pair, letting each new song inform the identity of the project as a whole. Speaking about how they identified that central theme of the album, Willie says, "I think where Adam and I agreed up-on is that the stand out records were all themes for the night, late night drive, after hours dinners, shopping, private rooftop hotel suites, it's a thinking album, a cruising album preferably enjoyed at night…midnight""

Midnight marks the early stages of what's shaping up to be a prolific run of collaborations for Real Bad Man in 2025. His second album of the year builds off of the momentum he sparked last month with his first full-length album with ZelooperZ, Dear Psilocybin, which The FADER called "clear-eyed and focused in its own fantastical way". Working as a duo with the dynamic lyricism of Willie the Kid after the psychedelic sounds of Dear Psilocybin, Real Bad Man returns to the essential underground beatmaking that he first emerged onto the scene with through his On High Alert series. His crackling, lo-fi production pairs perfectly with Willie's gritty delivery, laying a foundation for the longtime lyrical styl-ist who has worked alongside some of the genre's modern heroes including Nas, Lil Wayne, The Alchemist, Roc Mar-ciano, Curren$y and more.
