After recent Ron Allen reissues on Emotions Electric and our own Classic Cuts imprint, it's time to revamp the mothership itself: Strobe Records. First one up in this new campaign is R.A.S.E.'s The Ron Allen Sound Experience EP -- a four-tracker, originally out in 1991, that captures what is timeless about Allen's signature sound: warm basslines, soulful vocals, and that Toronto swing. Phantasy transports back to 1982 for a faithful reissue of the highly sought after ‘Fools Are Friendly’ from Xclusiv, carefully re-mastered from the original tapes. The alias of sisters Karen and Maxine Berlinski, Xclusiv emerged inconspicuously from the London borough of Croydon with a sophisticated vision of cosmic disco pop, linking the suburbs with Soho’s neon-tinted nightlife. Decades later, and in close collaboration with the sisters, this highly sought-after record arrives lovingly reissued by Phantasy in its original, sensuous form. Originally self-released on Le Maitre Music, a record label spun-off from their family-run fireworks and pyrotechnics company, ‘Fools Are Friendly’ has the irresistible sense of a radio hit that never was. A brilliant DIY reflection of the disco and soul that dominated the charts of the time, its glossy, primitive electronics echo the synth experiments of Giorgio Moroder or Didier Marouani, pioneers that were transforming pop music. The extended mix provides an overture to the sisters’ twinned vocals, unfolding with delectable disco drama. In contrast, the Instrumental Mix lets the record’s blend of elements truly breathe, a synthesised version of Xclusiv’s irresistible vocal hook holding court between timeless arpeggios and subtle modulation.

Chicago house great Lil Louis really nailed it when he wrote 'Cub Lonely' back in 1992 with his group The World. It was taken from their album A Journey With The Lonely and has lead vocals by Joi Cardwell that helped it become an instant club smash. All these years later it always gets a big reaction on the floor which is why it has now been reissued by Epic complete with a series of remixes. The I'm On The Guest List mix is the one with the wonky sax lines and steamy vocals, the instrumental is paired back and more club-ready then DJ Pierre's Afro club mix bringing some big and freewheeling synth energy. The Bellbottoms & Platforms mix is a subtle tweak and then the most raw of the lot is the Radically Lonely mix to close down.

compilation with a new EP named BLACK METROPOLIS.
Within its, at times, rough-hewn textures lies a core
that explores joy and energy within the roots of black
techno. In her words: “I want this release to be black
and beautiful, to be queer, and playful, a nostalgic nod
to the 90s but also reimagining it in the current times.”
The Ghana-born, London-bred, now Berlin-based
producer’s research into afro-futurism, envisaging
a path forward for science, technology and culture
through the black experience, has impressed a deep
vision on this EP. Yazzus sets like a cartographer, using
her tracks to explore a technologically advanced world,
each representing di erent regions and environments.
Human Error Processor introduces an ear-worming
percussion pattern nearly swamped by distorted bass
drums and a vocal sample screwed just beyond
recognition. Perforated leads with a 150bpm four to the
floor stomp, infectious and supercharged. Gluey synth
motions soak in an otherworldliness, where industrious,
mechanical rhythms map out futurist structures in all
directions.
Metro City Bay Area exhibits a ghettotech soul, lean and
bouncy - this part of the galaxy is an infinite source of
fun, with the heart of groove at it’s core. Three Deities
brings adventurers of its region towards higher powers,
its ravey synths and an engulfing bass provoke
a complete NRG release, ascending into a spiritual
trance where dense melodies bubble and fizz.
