Four years after his breakthrough, Max Graef returns to Tartelet Records with his second solo album. A dungeon dub symphony in four parts, Lo Siento Mucho Pero No Hablo Tu Idioma is an album's album. Brimming with new and old guests, interludes and bonus skits, it's a consummate sketchbook of Graef's most unique music to date. Not interested in repeating old tricks, No Hablo sees Graef on a playful joyride through a whole new crate of influences. Echoes of Japanese video game music bubble through the Zelda-channeling "Master Quest" and dreamy bonus level "Midi Break 1." "Midi Lisa" and "Intershop" roll out mutant digi-reggae, while "Rush" and "Level Zero" dig deeper into bass and juke. The album also premieres music with Chrissley Benz, a Kazakhstani singer. As Graef explains: "No Hablo is a lot more intuitive with a lot less editing, raw arrangements, filled with experiments of strange instrumentation and rooms. I worked on it in a very unmusical way." But the record isn't a universe apart from his previous output. Throwbacks to the tape-deck world of g-funk and 80s boogie are still present, as well as a few psychedelic jazz cuts. The record also sees the return of Graef's father and guitarist, Gerry Franke, plus long-time collaborators Funkycan and Ludwig. A record of 20 tracks, it covers many bases. It's your favourite PPU cassette via Ocarina of Time and out through a progressive garage jam, all stitched together in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Somehow it all makes perfect sense and reaffirms Graef's natural-born ear for killer hooks and unique melodies. The album's title - Lo Siento Mucho Pero No Hablo Tu Idioma - is an elegant and simultaneously ironic way of apologising for not speaking one's language in Spanish. What we feel for Max Graef might just be our biggest man-crush ever. We came across his music through his own label "Box aus Holz" and we're just as stoked as he is to have him as our second release. The A1 track "Jungle" (with multi-talented his Ozzie pen pal Andy Hart) is probably the most sought after track of our sets lately and has caused quite a flow of emails ("what the hell is this??)_after our Boiler room set. It's got that ass-shaking groove without being a regular four to the floor banger. It rather creeps up from behind with some perfectly sampled scats and a cool duet of cowbells and stabs. Add some funky jungle effects and you've got a track that's stuck in your head for the rest of the day On the B-side, we've got "Ignorance is Bliss". This track is exactly what we love about modern day deephouse. It's got a rough warehouse vibe on the lows, a hint of disco and a set of 'rhodesy' keys running through the track to set the mood. "Zitze" is the last track of the EP with layers and layers of vocals, textures and keys taking turns and a great shuffle that runs through the track that makes it just as much a good listen, as a dancefloor jam.

Since Montreal native Jacques Greene, 24, emerged with his first solo releases in late 2010 - The Look 12" EP (LuckyMe) and Another Girl 12" Single (LuckyMe, a Pitchfork Top 100 Track of the Year) - he has drawn upon real R&B, House & Techno to create a modern palette which served to influence contemporaries from Jamie XX to Disclosure and Julio Bashmore. But with the UK offering such excellent cross-over Dance successes in 2013 it can be easy to forget where our musical landscape was just tree years ago when Jacques Greene’s faceless demos began to creep online. Just prior to the young Canadian’s debut, US R&B had recently combined with the worst of European 4/4 Electro House & Trance to form a bottle-service delivery of compressed Pop-Dance to our charts. Greene represented something wholly contrary. A young outsider who, in isolation, was experimenting with fusing the fraught sentiment and sexuality of modern R&B and movement and soul of classic House and Techno. Not in any way retro, there are very few modern producers who can claim to have mastered their form – using original analogue equipment and the very essence of their influences to create such expressive and rich dance music. LM015 - On Your Side EP is the product of many years of experimentation at the boundary between R&B and Dance music. It is only now after a slew of taste maker releases in dance music that we find Jacques Greene as an accomplished writer and arranger aspiring to work in song format. With our lead single featuring Tom Krell aka How To Dress Well, this is not the exaltation of a lone R&B hook that we are used to but rather a fully developed original song that finds it’s place perfectly balanced between both artists. It’s unashamed hook and addictive bridge in a beautifully delicate falsetto which rides on top of assured shuffle of percussion. No one here can claim this is a Summer record – the air of cool it evokes is for 4am at any time of year. This is the crystallization of something JG has been working towards. All his tastes reconciled into one stunning moment of classic house / modern house, classic pop / modern R&B. The remaining tracks too, show JG’s development. B1 Faithful returns to JG’s vocal sample hallmark but this time without the processing. This is not a percussive use of vocal but rather an upfront gospel-inflected hook in the vein of classic US house courtesy of good friend Olivier Day Soul. Then to close we return to the deep instrumentals we have expect from JG. B2 Quicksand first appeared as an ‘untitled’ highlight in Greene’s takeover at BBC 6Music in October. Now with 160,000+ plays on Soundcloud Quicksand finds its place as the euphoric finale of this satisfying three track EP which further establishes Jacques Greene, still young and evolving; a clear leader in his lane. Yuvi Havkin aka Rejoicer returns with an exceptional collaborative album, California Space Craft. On
this aptly titled record, he joins forces with seasoned LA bass polymath Sam Wilkes — known for his
inspired studio work with Sam Gendel and his dynamic live performances alongside Louis Cole and
KNOWER — and drummer Tamir Barzilay, completing the LA-connected trifecta alongside a select
handful of key featured guests.
The idea for California Space Craft was born out of a series of inspired live sessions in Los Angeles

trio’s natural chemistry first began to bloom.
The resulting recordings encompass a wide variety of inspired sound stylings, as one would expect from
any of these accomplished artists on their own; however, the sum is truly greater than the parts here,

remarkably focused as a cohesive whole.
Opening track “Traveling Light” sets the LP’s tone with equal parts Sly & Robbie-style, space echo–

Captured in the heights of Saignelégier, Switzerland, in the middle of a pasture overlooking the Jura mountains, Live in Jura bottles the singular Ill Considered live experience at its most open, responsive, and elemental. From Idris Rahman (sax, flute), Liran Donin (bass), and Emre Ramazanoglu (drums), this is deep free improv built from intuition and heart - an ever-evolving conversation of groove, texture, and spirit. Whispered motifs bloom into towering climaxes; earthy bass surges meet shimmering cymbal work; woodwind lines move from meditative invocation to ecstatic release. It is music shaped by the audience, the environment, and the moment : alive, unrepeatable, and deeply organic.

Great Day is one of the very best albums on the Music De Wolfe label and certainly one of the most sought after library records, full stop. It's been sampled by such heavyweights as Madlib, LTJ Bukem, El-P and The Alchemist (among many others). You likely already know all this. If you don't, get to know. One listen through and the £350 asking price for a VG copy starts to all make sense...
Originally released in 1972, it's credited to Music De Wolfe legends Simon Haseley (real name Simon Park) and "Peter Reno" (a collaborative alias used by composers Clifford "Cliff" Twemlow and Peter Taylor) Confused? No matter. It's one of the most consistent libraries you'll ever hear, packed with heavy blaxploitation-esque drama-funk break themes.
It opens with the feel-good, breezy piano beat number "Little Big John" before switching up to modern sweeping orchestral with heavy drums on the warm, deeply emotive "Summer Friend". Total highlight "Hammerhead" is as heavy as you'd want, from a track so-titled. It's a driving, imposing, orchestral funk-rock monster, famously used by The High & Mighty for their classic "Dirty Decibels" and, also, it was used as the backing for Beyonce's ace "Woman Like Me".
Up next, "Crimson" is melodic, plaintive and moodily introspective; a soft, oboe-enhanced instrumental of delicate beauty. Again, ace beats and breaks abound. The expansive title track, "Great Day" is melodic and bold; a horn-fuelled, mid-tempo rhythmic workout which builds to rather big end. Rounding out this first side, "Hard Crust" ups the ante with thrilling wah-wah funk-rock, a dramatic, pounding and aggressive thriller. Killer!
Side B opens with the steady, stealthy crime-funk of "Highball" before segueing brilliantly into the Hammond-laced relentless flute-funk of the driving "Bora". The powerful wah-wah wonderful "Hold Back" is haunting orchestral funk-rock, sampled by Madlib, El-P, Rakim, Sean Price and The Alchemist. It's easy to see why. Swaggering and staggering.
The cop show funk of "Silver Thrust" is fast, purposeful and persistent. Is it a cover version of the godlike "Stepping Stones" from Johnny Harris's Movements album? Either way, with up-tempo drums, bongos and flute you're going to be thrusting all night. The dynamic "Convoy" is a brassy, organ-fuelled sports-soundtrack b-boy breaks monster. Super Bowl Soul! Essential. To close out this quite extraordinary set, the insistent "Barracuda" presents dramatic rock feels over a persistent funky flute beat. It was sampled by LTJ Bukem for his classic "Sunrain" from 2000.
The audio for Great Day has been meticulously remastered by Be With regular Simon Francis, ensuring this release sounds better than ever. Cicely Balston's expert skills have made sure nothing is lost in the cut whilst the records have been pressed to the highest possible standard at Record Industry in Holland. The original, iconic sleeve has been restored here at Be With HQ as the finishing touch to this long overdue re-issue.
