A bold new collaboration creates a powerful encounter between UK Mandé jazz and Afro-Colombian marimba - 15 musicians exploring shared African roots through rhythm and improvisation. Balimaya Project and Colombia's Discos Pacifico All Stars together present a cross-continental performance of West African jazz and Afro-Colombian tradition in a boundary-pushing exchange of rhythm, heritage, and sound. The two bands bring together a connection between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, exploring experimental Afro-diasporic soundscapes, blending Mandé jazz with Afro-Colombian folkloric music in a collaboration which fuses the deep rhythmic and cultural ties between African and Latin American traditions. Balimaya Project, known for their powerful fusion of Mandé rhythms and contemporary jazz, brings a strong foundation in West African musical heritage, incorporating instruments like the djembe and balafon to craft complex, emotive compositions rooted in community and storytelling. Joining them from Colombia's Pacific coast, the Discos Pacifico All Stars - featuring members of Bejuco, Semblanzas del Rio Guapi, and former members of Agrupación Changó - focus on marimba music and Afro-Colombian rhythms, channelling the energy of their ancestral sound into something fresh and globally resonant. The album 'Calima' centres on an international exchange, shaping a new musical narrative in real time. Calima is a natural phenomenon where Sahara Desert dust travels across the Atlantic, bringing nutrients that fertilise the Amazon and tropical rainforests in Latin America and the Caribbean. Like this dust, the African diaspora crossed oceans by force, but through cultural resistance kept their heritage alive - recognising each other, sharing traditions, rooting themselves, and creating new forms of expression that transform dispersal into fertile encounters of memory, beauty, and renewal.

Since releasing her joint LP 'These Days' with long-time friend and collaborator Daniel Casimir on the jazz re:freshed imprint in 2019, Hirst has been working on her first solo album scheduled for release in early-2024. Funded by PRS Foundation's Women Make Music and the MOBO Help Musicians Fund, Hirst's new music is set to be a jazz re:freshed family affair. 'Magic' features Richard Spaven on drums, Sarah Tandy on piano and Tomorrow's Warriors StringTing. It is produced and arranged by Casimir who also plays electric, upright and synth bass on the recording. A celebration of inspiring stories of the women around her, 'Magic' pays homage to their robust capacity to rise to any challenge, including motherhood, a journey which Hirst embarked upon herself, making the track all the more poignant. As Hirst shares: "Since having my own child in between writing and releasing this record, I've realised motherhood itself isn't magic, rather there is magic in being a mother. Performing 'Magic' now brings a deeper level of understanding for me. When you give birth to a child you too are reborn." Hirst urges listeners to invoke their own sense of magic, underpinned by the notoriously underground UK musical heritage ofDrum'n'Bass, Spaven fully in his element, piercing through the pensive string melodies and euphoric harmonies overarching Hirst's ethereal tone.

London-based composer/bassist, Daniel Casimir returns with his solo debut album Boxed In, a dynamic collision of pulsing modern jazz and orchestral instrumentation. Featuring Casimir's quintet of fellow British jazz luminaries, including Nubya Garcia, Moses Boyd, Al MacSween and James Copus, the album astutely bridges traditional and contemporary jazz forms enveloping strings, woodwind & brass arrangements. Boxed In represents Casimir's debut set of compositions written for orchestra. Despite his interest in writing for orchestra while studying jazz and classical music, attending conservatoires and completing a masters degree at Trinity Laban, he was never given the opportunity or choice to fulfil his aspiration. Casimir notes that as only one of two black musicians in his study cohort the normalisation of the situation made it almost easy to miss its inherent injustice. Coming up through the essential development foundation Tomorrow's Warriors, Casimir has gone on to feature on all of Nubya Garcia's recorded output to date as well as projects by Makaya McCraven and Ashley Henry and has performed with Lonnie Liston Smith and Jason Rebello amongst others. This album reflects the experiences of navigating prescribed labels traditionally placed on black musicians. As well as being inspired by Wayne Shorter's hybrid orchestral jazz projects, Boxed In was also influenced by a conversation Casimir had in 2018 with legendary composer and producer Quincy Jones who talked a lot about classical music orchestration.

Ajo Se Po is the third album by alto-saxophonist and percussionist Kevin Haynes, released with his band Grupo Elegua. The album integrates musical elements with references to his deepening spiritual understanding. Haynes has created a modal harmonic language incorporating Afro-Cuban melodies and classical kora playing - his alto-sax, infusing the album with a personal 'voice'. Yoruba spirituality is at the heart of Haynes' musical thinking which also includes both Nigerian and Cuban dimensions. This is especially reflected by the use of recitation and Cuban bata drumming being employed on all tracks, with each piece growing out of a particular bata rhythm. Each such rhythm is dedicated to a particular Orisha, or divinity. As well as influences from Afro-Cuban, Native Nigerian and folkloric Bata, Haynes' music is a fusion of contemporary jazz incorporating Mandinga folk and praise songs and hard bop. Kevin Haynes and Grupo Elegua have performed at renowned jazz festivals including Havana Jazz Festival, Cuba and Salamanca Jazz Festival, Spain. Haynes has also featured on Moses Boyd's hit album Displaced Diaspora.

Channeling inventive sound design into incisive, characterful techno variations, Jurango returns to Livity Sound with an eight-track double EP - his longest release to date. Taíno Gold captures a moment in time for Bristol-based Nate Reece's continually evolving sound as it draws on the full spectrum of UK club music.
Following a debut for Livity's reverse label in 2021 and last year's An Amorphous Mass EP, Reece is more assured than ever tackling a variety of club-focused cuts. The tracks on the release all came together before, during and after a two-month visit to Reece's grandparents' home - an idyllic tropical environment in a small community at the top of a hill in the northern part of Jamaica.
Taíno Gold refers to the island's indigenous Taíno community and the legend of a witch luring Spanish settlers into a trap on the Martha Brae river. There are no messages explicitly embedded in the music, but the release is both a personal reflection of Reece's own experiences and family heritage, plus a reminder about the enduring sceptre of colonialism and the continued need to fight against it. From absorbing Jamaica's fraught history through museum and plantation visits to the abundant nature in the garden surrounding his grandparent's house, the double EP marks a place in time for Reece, with eight advanced, ear-catching tracks as the end result.
From the cascading arps of 'Black Torches' to the tunnelling chords of 'Waiting For Trelawny', the melodic dimension of the Jurango sound is more confident than ever. 'Hibiscus' is a shimmering celebration of dub techno and crooked drum pressure and 'Chalk On Trees' basks in aqueous, fathoms-deep pads to close out the EP. Elsewhere, Reece brings new textural and tonal detail to his percussive workouts, splashing acidic noise around the angular experimentation of 'Maybe It's Broken' and firing off double-time rhythms to inject 'Double Sevens' with infectious urgency.
With the space afforded by a longer release, Reece widens out the scope of his artistic identity while absorbing the particular scene and setting that surrounded him while making the tracks. Taíno Gold is a vibrant next step for Jurango and a natural continuation of his work with Livity Sound.

The Juks are a London based Rocksteady/ Reggae Band led by Lenny Bignell who on Mukatsuku label imprint offer up their own unique cover of Ronnie Foster's 1972 cut 'Mystic Brew,' which has long been a go-to for samplers and beatmakers. This version transforms the jazz-funk classic into a deep cut and slow-burning reggae roller with slowly unfurling harmonica leads, reverberating bass and a liquid rhythm infused with swirling psychedelic guitar textures. 'Ummh' on the flip side is just as laid back, with gentle melodies rising out of them, wah-wah effects, noodling organ lines and a jazzy hint of cosmic playfulness in the keys. Two intimate sounds for cosy sessions.

Originally trained in architecture and architectural acoustics, Japanese sound artist Yosi Horikawa has long explored the boundaries of music and space. His fascination with natural sound continues to shape his distinctive approach—crafting lush, textured electronic compositions from his field recordings and found sounds, from birdsong and city noise to the clatter of kitchen utensils After early acclaim for his EP 'Touch' (released via Eklektik Records), Horikawa joined the Red Bull Music Academy in 2011, collaborating with artists like Dorian Concept and Jesse Boykins III and earning support from tastemakers including BBC Radio 1's Benji B. His 2013 debut album 'Vapor' (released via First Word Records) was hailed by Japan Times, FACT Magazine, and Bandcamp as one of the year's best. Full of potent life energy, 'Impulse' weaves organic foley together with glistening futuristic production into a cohesive quilt of sound. Surging synth lines collide against propulsive rhythm sections, as sparkling melodies slowly illuminate overhead. The album is presented in Dolby Atmos Immersive Audio (as well as Stereo Sound), with the field recordings captured by a 360 Degree microphone, and arranged using a system of 10 speakers in Yosi's studio, using three dimensional skill and expertise. The resulting listening experience is one brimming with subtle movements and living, breathing tactility as waves crash, leaves crunch under foot and thunder growls in the misty distance. On where he found his creative force during the creation of this album, Yosi explains: 'Looking back, one big influence on the album was the loss of my good friend. I now feel that the enormous difference between life and death is what creates the various contrasts in my album. I think I was unconsciously searching for a strong, lively sound, and at the same time I was trying to find a sound coming from afar.' Brisk, bright and sprightly, 'Impulse' is an undulating record of immeasurable depth and endless expanse, this album pays tribute to the majesty of nature, and encapsulates what it is to be a part of the circle of life and death turning amidst the spinning blue marble we all inhabit

Babo Moreno is the brainchild of Fabio De Oliveria, a respected drummer and percussionist, who having worked with the likes of Sault, Jacob Collier, Terry Callier, Alfa Mist, Jalen Ngonda and Airto Moreira, is now stepping forward with his own sound. Fabio is the proud bearer of a legacy of Brazilian music in London, particularly influenced by the artist's father, renowned percussionist Bosco De Oliveira (Terry Callier, Sade, Working Week, Dom Um Romão & Founder of the London School Of Samba). The artist's self-titled debut album,driven by Fabio from behind the drums,is an ode from this British artist to his Brazilian heritage, expressing a sense of joy, nostalgia and, at the same time, alienation through his dual identity. It sits alongside a new wave of Brazilian artists (Amaro Freitas,Bala Desejo, Tunico) who build upon the country's rich musical heritage. The album features top-tier musicians such as Dennis Rollins (Maceo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis, Monty Alexander), Mercury Prize 2023 winner Ife Ogunjobi (Ezra Collective, WizKid, Burna Boy), Gilli Lopes (Dom Salvador, Duduka Da Fonseca), Tamar Osborn (Dele Sosimi, Collocutor, Sarathy Korwar) with a special feature from Baque Luar, a London-based collective of female and non-binary vocalists and percussionists. The album was recorded at Livingston Studios and Fish Factory Studios. It was co-written and co-arranged by Greg Sanders, produced by Fabio De Oliveira, engineered and mixed by Benedic Lamdin (Nostalgia 77) and mastered by Caspar Sutton-Jones at Gearbox Records.

Wah Wah 45s present the long awaited new album from Afro-dub masters,Soothsayers, entitledFly Higher. With a history that goes back three decades, having released two classic LPs (TraditionandWe Are Many) and numerous EPs and remixes on the imprint, the band deliver possibly their finest body of work to date. Soothsayers' twelfth studio album will be released on vinyl only (and via Bandcamp) in September this year - twenty-five years since they unleashed their debut LP,Lost City. The album features the very essence of the band - the vital ingredients that have been part of their sound since the outset, incorporating the diaspora, family and community that they have built along their journey. Fly Higherblends Afrobeat, soul, jazz and dub grooves and is packed with uplifting, ear-worm melodies delivered via stirring three-part harmonies, horn hooks and mesmerising basslines. The sound is typically organic and warm, and showcases Soothsayers' original songwriting style, which in turn pays respect to a variety of influences, but avoids cliche and predictability.

A mythical tune for all serious digital reggae collectors, finally reissued. The obscure Junior Khadaffy (various spellings!) released only a handful of tunes in the mid-late '80s, but all are fantastic. This one was cut for E&F Studios in the Bronx, ran by the late artist I-Plee. Stereo Fletcher happens to be family to I-Plee, producing several records by the artist for his own labels. But the works went both ways, and Stereo produced this one for release on E&F's in-house label. Slick but killer digital reggae, this one has always reminded us of the production style of Little Kirk's "Weed Them Out", a fantastic arrangement, great vocals and a complex head-nodding rhythm. The original press is extremely rare and the tune is simply too good to remain that way, so here it is, top top top shelf '80s digital, now available for all.

Wally Badarou is a synth pioneer and musical polymath. But rarely does he sing over his sumptuous tracks. The 6 songs that comprise new record Simple Things finally realise Wally's vision for select backing tracks from his beloved Colors Of Silence.
The tracks were originally developed back in 2001 for the release of the original CD; here, Wally has “simply" added overdubs and vocals to their mastered mixes with some discerning edits. Simply put, Simple Things is another slice of simply stunning Wally Badarou genius.
Simple Things has been decades in the making. Indeed, Wally struggled not only with the idea of singing these wonderful songs himself but singing them in English and writing his own lyrics, while wrestling with the sensational backing tracks, which themselves seemed to have taken on a life of their own.
As Wally explained to us: "In addition to the instrumental artist I have been known as, so far, there has always been a singer who simply was not sure he was, up until now. Even though “Back To Scales Tonight”, my very first album, was, indeed, a song album."
Opener "It Couldn't Be You" embellishes the uptempo groove of soca-funk gem "The Lights Of Kinshasa". As Wally explained to us, it's about “a simple love story somewhere, one rainy night, under the lights of Kinshasa. A woman, a man, online dating, quite usual in our times. Then they meet, almost missing each other." The guide vocal Wally had laid for Colors Of Silence - with an organ sound - seemed striving for words in Linguala, a Congolese language he could not speak. Therefore the decision to do it himself was not an easy one, for it had to be in English to fit his singing. We think it turned out pretty good!
"You Can't Hide Always" vocalises Wally's deep concerns set to the propulsive "Smiles By The Millions": "Populism, ostracism, radicalism, ethics and values all turned upside down worldwide, are they all inevitably exacerbated by our social networks? It could all melt down one day, like a house of cards in the ocean of fake news and false prophecies”. Wally wanted to keep the track as bare as possible but, inevitably, the backing vocals and the synth-brass arrive ultimately to present a welcome 70s flavour, with no snare-drum added.
The bright and breezy "We'll Make It Again" adds vocals to "Where Were We", a tropical, reggae-tinged bounce through the islands. Here's Waly: "Where were we when we last said: "I love you"? Simple words to express something quite common, but never quite simple to deal with. A simple song about the resilience of the broken hearts.” The reggae came from it being conceived when Wally was scoring for “Third World Cop”, a 1999 Jamaican action movie.
"Walk Straight Ahead" provides Wally's gorgeous, contemplative and idiosyncratic vocals to the deep serenity of Colors Of Silence highlight, "Amber Whispers". It's a gliding, divine, mini melodic masterpiece. It'll make you swoon in its extreme beauty. As Wally describes, "it started as just whispers, sweet amber whispers. Then the colour turned darker, as darker skies seemed to fall upon us while the whole world keeps on walking ahead, straight ahead, regardless of the blatant warnings, feeling much too comfortable in conformity. Initially, the verses were to be spoken only. I realised they could be sung all the while, without overshadowing the ethereal atmosphere." Amen.
The serene, celestial "Painting My Life Blue" presents the vocal version of "Days To Wonder". Says Wally, "how does it feel when your second half is gone after decades of riding life together? Past the temporary loss of your bearings, you come to realise you've been blind to the essential, and suddenly you can see...For this most intimate song of mine, I had tried to come up with a melody on top of the existing backing track, long before realising the melody was in the keyboard part already. It just needed to be properly mixed with it."
The profoundly emotional "Just Two Lovers" works up the formerly-too-brief and glorious "Crystal Falls" into a much fuller masterpiece and features acoustic guitar sparkle before fully glistening with some gentle head-nod percussion. Waly explains further: "Dear little green men, please tell me, what is it about us that makes you want to come and visit us so often (contrary to Fermi's assertion)? And here is the reply I believe I heard them sing: "You've got the key you've been searching for: Love”. I reverted to the initial backing track I had made around 1985, which already bore the melody, and which I added acoustic guitars to, before singing it." An astounding closer.
A synth specialist, there can be few artists more under-appreciated given their vast influence than Wally Badarou. His solo work practically defined the sound of the Balearic DJs of the 1980s, and thus the more sophisticated sound of dance culture thereafter. He was one of the Compass Point All Stars (with Sly and Robbie, Barry Reynolds, Mikey Chung and Uziah "Sticky" Thompson), the in-house recording team of Compass Point Studios responsible for a series of albums in the 1980s recorded by Grace Jones, Tom Tom Club, Mick Jagger, Black Uhuru, Gwen Guthrie, Jimmy Cliff and Gregory Isaacs. Badarou's keyboard playing could also be heard on albums by Robert Palmer, Marianne Faithfull, Herbie Hancock, M (Pop Muzik), Talking Heads, Manu Dibango and Miriam Makeba. He also produced Fela Kuti. Phew!
When we asked Wally about the significance of this collection's title, he explained: "These are "Simple things” that everyday’s life seems to build upon. The simplest are the harder to describe, but when satisfactorily described i.e. with simple words, they are the more genuine and authentic to express and share. I’ve immersed myself in other classic song lyrics, something I hardly did before, just to appreciate the genius behind the simple words they were made of, and had a great time studying how powerful they were in expressing complex ideas such as love."
Recording was twofold: first, most of the backing tracks were recorded in 2001, in Wally's studio in Normandy, mostly using hardware synths and Yamaha digital consoles. Then, he fine-tuned the melodies and wrote the lyrics in late 2023, then added some overdubs and sang them all during summer 2024. States Wally, "Digital Performer was and remains the DAW I’ve been using throughout, ever since the 80s."
Wally's sophisticated synth textures and expressive keyboard runs are so full of character, so full of life, that this work of art transcends any easy genre categorisation. Meticulously remastered and cut by both Simon Francis and Cicely Balston respectively, it has been pressed to the highest possibly quality at Record Industry in Holland. Sometimes, the simple things are the most extraordinary.

A synth specialist, there can be few artists more under-appreciated given their vast influence than Wally Badarou. His solo work practically defined the sound of the Balearic DJs of the 1980s, and thus the more sophisticated sound of dance culture thereafter. He was one of the Compass Point All Stars (with Sly and Robbie, Barry Reynolds, Mikey Chung and Uziah "Sticky" Thompson), the in-house recording team of Compass Point Studios responsible for a series of albums in the 1980s recorded by Grace Jones, Tom Tom Club, Mick Jagger, Black Uhuru, Gwen Guthrie, Jimmy Cliff and Gregory Isaacs. Badarou's keyboard playing could also be heard on albums by Robert Palmer, Marianne Faithfull, Herbie Hancock, M (Pop Muzik), Talking Heads, Manu Dibango and Miriam Makeba. He also produced Fela Kuti. Phew!
When we asked Wally about the significance of this collection's title, he explained: "These are "Simple things” that everyday’s life seems to build upon. The simplest are the harder to describe, but when satisfactorily described i.e. with simple words, they are the more genuine and authentic to express and share. I’ve immersed myself in other classic song lyrics, something I hardly did before, just to appreciate the genius behind the simple words they were made of, and had a great time studying how powerful they were in expressing complex ideas such as love."
Recording was twofold: first, most of the backing tracks were recorded in 2001, in Wally's studio in Normandy, mostly using hardware synths and Yamaha digital consoles. Then, he fine-tuned the melodies and wrote the lyrics in late 2023, then added some overdubs and sang them all during summer 2024. States Wally, "Digital Performer was and remains the DAW I’ve been using throughout, ever since the 80s."
Wally's sophisticated synth textures and expressive keyboard runs are so full of character, so full of life, that this work of art transcends any easy genre categorisation. Meticulously remastered and cut by both Simon Francis and Cicely Balston respectively, it has been pressed to the highest possibly quality at Record Industry in Holland. Sometimes, the simple things are the most extraordinary.

Berlin-Hamburg duo Session Victim return to the ever-reliable Delusions Of Grandeur imprint
with Chapter Two of their Sidequests trilogy, marking yet another high point in their almost
twenty year journey through heartfelt, sample-rich music. Overflowing with analog warmth, sundrenched textures and irresistible grooves, the release also features a stellar remix from label cofounder and deep house pioneer Jimpster who kicks off the EP.
Here he takes Behind The Glass into spaced out house-not-house territory. With crisp drum
programming, trademark Rhodes, and subtle pads that build over time, his version delivers that
late-night sophistication he's known for—steering the downtempo original in a clubbier direction
without losing its blissed-out essence.
Up next we have a brand new collaborative effort with long time friend, label mate and fellow
sample nerd Nebraska. Make It Happen is a dusty, slo-mo house groove featuring delicate
keys, euphoric strings and that unmistakable sense of journey. It’s just the kind of low-slung epic
house they do best—intimate yet club-ready, nostalgic but never retro.
Flipping over, Too Soft To Be Loud, another collaboration with Viken Arman, follows with a
jazzy, almost samba-esque rhythm and swirling atmospherics. Loose percussion, catchy guitar
riffs and Rhodes stabs collide with off-kilter dub FX and soft vocal snippets giving the track a
laid-back, live-band feel that harks back to their See You When You Get There era.
Hubcap Candy dives deep into funk territory. Nebraska’s on point boogie bassline drives the
track forward as crunchy drums and layers of synths create a dreamlike haze. It’s loopy, moody,
and finds Session Victim at their very best.
Closing out the EP we have the original of Behind The Glass, a headsy, beatdown piece that
slowly unfolds over an unconventional brass-like bassline and delicate guitar textures, paying
homage to the golden age of Trip Hop haziness and it’s pioneer turntable spirit.
Blending crate-digging sensibilities with forward-thinking production, this latest release solidifies
Session Victim’s reputation as genre-blurring tastemakers, and their chemistry with Delusions Of
