Dele Sosimi, the Nigerian-British Afrobeat Ambassador, Musician and Educator, has been at the heart of the global Afrobeat scene since relocating to the UK in December 1995. Having started his musical career with Fela's Egypt 80 band in his teens, he then teamed up with childhood friend Fela's son Femi Kuti (back in the late eighties) to kick-start the Positive Force - touring, recording and performing worldwide. Over forty years later, he remains a tireless ambassador for the unique musical movement all over the world. His blend of complex funk grooves, traditional Nigerian music, African percussion and an underlying sense of jazz combines with his virtuoso keyboard skills and rhythmic singing to make him one of the most respected Afrobeat authorities of his era.

Turbulent Times, the Joaquin Joe Claussell Remixes, were actually created over 10 years ago. But this is not all that surprising if you are one those who have inside knowledge of his production habits; Truth is, Joaquin's productions are created 5 years ahead of their actual release. What's most interesting now, however, is the timing of this release. Having recently gone through a few years of extremes, not least of a global pandemic, instigating more confusion and chaos, these series of remixes are right on time, and the original album version is way ahead of its time. With the original release of ‘The Difference it Makes’ racking up more than a million Spotify streams, the 2004 hit track by The MFA has been remixed and remastered, and will be available on vinyl and digital later this year.
This will be the debut release on The MFA’s new label - Deskbound Complex. All tracks have been mastered by Jason Goz at Transition Studios, and will be distributed by Rubadub. The EP features four mixes:
Original MFA Mix:
One of Pitchfork’s top 50 tracks of 2004, Resident Advisor described it at the time as, “Beautiful slices of dubby-tech house with compressed guitars and abstract sliced vocals. From start to finish, the track is minimal in nature. I like it, and I think you will too... The MFA has created something of a hidden gem.”
The record went on to receive support from Gerd Janson, Carl Cox, BLOND:ISH, Sven Väth, James Holden, Michael Mayer, Tim Sweeney, Dusky, Ata, Joseph Capriati, Robag Wruhme, Henry Saiz, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Jody Wisternoff, James Grant, Joe Goddard, and more.
Joe Goddard Remix:
With plenty of plays from Grammy-nominated Joe Goddard of Hot Chip, it seemed only right to ask him to remix the track. The result is an electro-dance number with a big breakdown and main room appeal.
Nathan Fake Remix:
Originally released on James Holden's Border Community, The MFA pay homage with a remix by former labelmate, Nathan Fake – who the duo first met on an internet chat room at the turn of the millennium.
The MFA’s #23 Remix:
Reimagined 23 years after it was first written (with a nod to The KLF), the remix pushes the track deeper onto the dancefloor, with a fresh take on the original.

Deskbound Complex was launched in 2025 by The MFA’s Alastair Douglas and Rhys Evans, with Euge Rasini joining as label manager, and Amilcar Torija as creative director. In a culture of instant gratification, patience is a subversive virtue. This attitude is precisely what lies at the heart of Farron's debut 12" on the Mojuba sublabel, a.r.t.less. The "Patience EP" is a convergence of two distinctive musical forces. Here, the architect behind the Shaw Cuts imprint, whose rhythmic complexity is influenced by a personal music taste ranging from hip-hop to punk via breakbeat, meets the emotional Detroit and dub-infused techno coordinates of a.r.t.less. The result is a record that embodies this tension. Farron's characteristic, subtly broken percussion merges with warm, floating pads and stabs to form a unique, seductive whole. It's not techno for pure escalation at peak time, but rather, music for the hours before and after with a sound that challenges and rewards the body and mind equally. ADN Ckrystall Presents DR. STRANGE - Clapotis Pour Rainettes
Very excited to present this new project on Macadam Mambo, actually it’s not properly new…
Dr Strange was one of the alias of Erick ‘ADN’ Ckrystall’ circa mid-90’s till early 2000’s, when he was producing a sort of Leftfield-Trippy-Goa music, including a lot of Ambient stuff mostly released on CD on a series called Animorph. Everything had a very cinematographic touch like it was made for some documentaries about amphibians and snakes that would evoluate in the deepness of the jungle or on some exotic island...
The music was so magical, that the envie to do a mini-retrospective of the CD series came instantly, specially because none of those golden gems had never been printed on vinyl, It was also a good way to put into the light the Dr. Strange side of ADN’ Ckrystall which was kept in the shadow since many years and that deserves much more attention as the regain of interest for the goa scene has been rising in the last few years.

Andrew Weatherall never wakes up in the morning and decides to start a new album that day. Instead, recording music is a continuous process usually working with different collaborators and seeing where the muse takes him. Somewhere down the line the rewards of a collaboration will coalesce into a body of work between thirty minutes and an hour long and he will put a call into the Rotters' team to say he has a new release ready to go.
We were visiting the studio catching up on new tracks in various states of readiness when he offered up some remixes of tracks from his recent "Ruled by Passion…" he'd been sent by fellow musicians. Tim Fairplay, Andrew's partner in The Asphodells, Sean Johnston from A Love From Outer Space and Scott Fraser live and work in the area and all popped in at various points.
Andrew's black book reads like the who's who of contemporary music but rather than plunder it for remixers he'd let drop the idea of a remix with friends and neighbours. These plus a couple a swaps with musical friends who were new to the concept of remixing, gave Andrew an hour of music he thoroughly enjoyed listening to.
It goes without saying none of the tracks are duds but our ears always prick up when Justin Robertson's take on "Beglammered" ups the heart rate or Daniel Avery's own unscrewing of "… the Axis" ruffles the neck hairs. We've stopped arguing in the office about which is the best track. They all are.
