Slam - Irregular Object
As electronic music pioneers and co-founders of Soma Records, Slam have continually shaped the landscape of underground techno. With their forthcoming album, Dark Channel, they present a raw, club-focused record that stands as both a reflection of our turbulent times and a celebration of the dance floor's enduring power.
In 2025, the world feels fractured, dominated by division and extremism. Amidst this chaos, the dance floor remains a rare sanctuary-one of unity, self-expression, and collective escape. Dark Channel is an unapologetic tribute to this sacred space, where rhythm dissolves barriers and music serves as a universal language. Through relentless energy, deep textures, and hypnotic grooves, the album embodies the essence of club culture: a place where we reconnect with ourselves and each other.
Slam make no mistake when it comes to the sonic tone of the album as it opens with the tribalistic Use It, Lose It before the discordant sounds of title track Dark Channel hints at the relentless nature of things to come. The intensity continues with Parametric Factor & Glide - both pushing a pulsating, synth driven trip; the later leading on a more traditional Slam percussive workout. The dance floor warping Morganatic pursues dark territory while Infinit Spaces adds trippy FX to an already animated synth hook. The beautifully crafted Kuture Version delves into a more immersive sound as more direct, chord driven elements take the lead. The pace quickens yet again with Ghost Dancer highlighting sub tones whilst still crafting ominous intonations with its modulating FX. Approaching the conclusion, the ferocious Beat On The Drum delivers a lesson in rhythm and energy before the contorted Irregular Object completes proceedings in a suitably hypnotic fashion.

slam - Ghosts of Detroit - Slam Remix
Slam turn to long time friend and collaborator, Len Faki, to head up the third part in the series of remixes of their album Reverse Proceed and he turns in 2 fantastic versions amalgamating two of his top picks from the LP. Slam also feature in this package with a stripped back dub version of Ghosts of Detroit.
Working Cirklon Bells & Ghosts Of Detroit together to create Ghosts of Cirklon, Faki drops an epic, tripped out monster of a remix. Merging the lush pad sounds of Cirklon atop the bouncing bass line and aquatic sequence of Ghosts, Faki then adds a fantastic drum work out, complete with a fairly punishing snare, to deliver a real power house version of the two standout tracks from Slam's album. In what feels like a natural progression from the opening track, Faki's version of Ghosts Of Detroit keeps a similar pace whilst the original synth hook now develops into a more pulsing, resonating dub variant. Slam offer up there own dub version of Ghosts Of Detroit to close out the EP. The duo delve deep with this rendering of the project as subtle percussive elements are moulded and shaped around heavy sub bass and gaseous like pads that float gently beneath swathes of reverb soaked synth hits.

The second installment of re Interpretations form Slam's latest, critically acclaimed album Reverse Proceed sees Soma look to yet more highly regarded Techno artists to provide their reimagining's of their favourite tracks from Reverse Proceed. Long time Soma collaborator Gary Beck makes a welcome return to the label alongside fellow Scottish upstarts Clouds and finally Dutch Techno wizard, Jeroen Search. Each brings their inimitable style to the project.
Gary Beck steps up first with his take on Catacoustics. His fiery brand of looped out Techno take the already tough Catacoustics into another realm. Gary comes out, all guns blazing using the original hook to great effect as it trips out over his ferocious kicks, thundering percussion and powerful dance floor groove. Not shy of a fierce remix, the Clouds twosome give Resolved a thorough going over. One of the more ambient tracks from Reverse Proceed, the beatless, breathtaking original is well and truly given a proper workout by the young Scottish producers. Filtered, shaking percussion leads us into the analogue warmth of the Resolved pads. This light start rapidly gives way to a full on assault of rhythmic destruction as Clouds turn in a serious weapons grade Techno track. The influential figure of Jeroen Search closes off this EP in fine form with his version of Cirklon Bells. Widely regarded as a true innovator in Techno, Jeroen shows off his skills with this remix as he powers in with a straight out 909 workout infused with hypnotic synth hooks. Given the live treatment, Jeroen is able to keep things exciting with the remix and easily pulls out a highly addictive remix.

Slam’s 1995 track undergoes some serious remixing, reshaping and loving focus on Slam remixed Part 6. This is an extensive exploration of the 14 minute original, with this ‘single’ release providing over an hour of music. Deepchord supplies remixes both under that name and as part of the Echospace project and this interconnection offers a detailed involvement with the 1995 track. The original track used smooth, full bass which merged with the varied samples and effects to create a deeply engaging single. On this subsequent single the remixes offer subtle variation on aspects of the original. Certain samples effects and production elements are reintegrated at various points and the focus and dynamic are shifted and stretched. The first Echospace ‘Detroit mix One’ really heightens some of the echo and reverb to bring a dub essence to the track with panning, overlaying and filtering stretching the tracks production in this dub direction. The second Echospace ‘Detroit Mix Two’ is a more concise and concentrated piece which retains the original’s prominent and melodic bass-line. However, the smooth bass of the Slam original is jarred somewhat with an industrial touch and sculpting of the sound. African drum samples are integrated and add freshness to some of the rhythmic patterns. There is also ebb and flow in the interaction of metallic percussion and floating synths. The Deepchord remixes express an ambient and slow-building production. The ‘Centrum remix’ is darker and deeper than the original and uses sparse development of the original sounds aligned with rhythmic structure to build the tempo. The Deepchord ‘Rebuild’ continues this theme with the recognisable bass used sparingly as an undercurrent of the developing track. This track is a little more restrained and the ambient build up reaches its conclusion with vocals and effects offering a constant wave of sound towards the latter section. As the title suggests the ‘Atmospheric Rebuild’ extends the themes of the rebuild remix and shifts focus to develop a more ethereal sound.

Slam’s huge 2007 track ‘Azure’ with its idiosyncratic patch and pumping rhythm seems the perfect material for some unique remixing. These efforts by Carl Craig and Kink certainly don’t disappoint bringing both ideological and musical reshaping of the track to create two very different and equally powerful tracks. Carl Craig’s C2 remix takes on the ever-popular track in his legendary, inimitable style. Craig merges the melody and speeds it up making it a central part of the dynamic of the track. Fluidity and the hint of velocity give good movement to the track. This balanced setting is interrupted as the bass and heavy rhythmic shift emerge out of nowhere and the impact of the bass drum here is even greater than that of the original as the track builds in this extended version. The strings and effects interact differently and all aspects help to sculpt a formidable variation. The effect of Kink’s remix is one of a rougher, darker power. The pounding beat hits from the outset and the whole sound becomes more intense. Industrial effects almost tear through the track helping to concentrate a raw energy within all aspects of the sound. Again the progression speeds up dramatically with heavy bass kicking in just after the halfway point and powering through the track as the almost robotic samples add ideological adhesion to the track. The intricacy of samples and effects balances perfectly the dark power of this great remix.

For 20 years, seminal producers, DJs and label owners, Slam, have brought a progressive and independent streak to the ever-developing techno and house scene, both in their own music and by representing other acts through their Soma records label. From beginnings as underground trailblazers, both Slam and Soma have employed the innovation and attention to detail, which, has enabled them to succeed in the state of flux persistent in the scene and helped maintain a consistently high standard of output. To celebrate this 20 year collaboration, Soma are releasing a selection of classic tracks from their extensive back catalogue, newly remixed by some of the most globally renowned and regarded producers in the house and techno scenes. The origins of this twenty year progression are brought to the fore in Soma’s latest single release which contains three expansive and varied remixes of Slam’s classic track, Eterna - the first ever release on the Soma label and year zero for the aforementioned collaboration. Eterna’s influence in 1991 was born through its merging of disparate styles, underpinned by a balanced mix of driving bassline and euphoric melody. Producer and label owner Radio Slave shares some of this kind of influence in the modern era fuelled by his own output and that of his label ReKids. Following an earlier remix of Slam’s Azure in 2007 the London based producer has again forged his imprint on Eterna with this latest remix. There is a darker, heavier feel to the remix with the rounded bass stomping between drops heavily and the manipulation of samples from the original, which are now more strung out and imposing than euphoric, adding a sense of controlled aggression. Having previously remixed Radio Slave’s Bell clap dance, veteran German producer and DJ, Sebo K, turns his attention to Eterna to produce his first remix for Soma. Sebo K’s sound manifests itself clearly in the remix as the track is lifted with dynamic, shifting rhythmic patterns and a loping bassline. A focus on liquid synths smoothes and brightens the track to provide a very different interpretation and also creates a powerful and deep dancefloor remix.

Deepchord - Tantra
2024 repress
Prana glistens into existence as ethereal pads drift by, giving way to a subtle, almost deep house beat that pulses nicely, backed by tribal-esq percussion. A gently staccato synth pattern flutters in and out toying with the idea of techno ever so slightly yet keeping well within the realms of his usual sound. Simplicity is the key in this track and Deepchord allows it to evolve slowly and he toys with sweeps of reverb and FX giving the track a lush, organic sound.
Tantra gives off a tougher vibe than it predecessor. Gently layered, deeper, edgier synths open the track as percussive elements, swathed in FX form the basis of the groove. Bolstered by a typical Deepchord dubbed out bass line this track once again evolves perfectly almost without the listener noticing the subtle changes that give Tantra a deep and emotive flow.
Never one to sit still and be pigeon holed into a genre, Deepchord easily turns his hand once again a brings two beautifully crafted tracks in his own inimitable style

Sales Note
Portuguese techno figurehead Lewis Fautzi returns to Soma with the Properties Specifications EP. A mainstay on the Soma roster for 10 years, Fautzi has progressed through the global ranks to become one of techno's most recognisable acts. A consistent and competent producer, Fautzi's sound has evolved through the years yet remains modern and as on point as ever.
Density is a visceral yet hypnotic opener, its subtle drive is pushed via its instantly building, electric synth hook. Severity continues down a dark and hypnotic patch as polyrhythmic percussion guides a pulsating and incessant groove. Malleability once again displays Fautzi's control over specific elements, each grafting over the other to create new depths of rhythm throughout the track. Tension closes out the EP but does so in emphatic form. A1 Lewis Fautzi - Density
A2 Lewis Fautzi - Severity
B1 Lewis Fautzi - Malleability
B2 Lewis Fautzi - Tension
The most driving track on the release, thumping low end and crisp percussion are backed with twisted synths and dark atmospheres that swell throughout.

B1 Deepchord - Mapping

Release Note:
Detroit's deep techno master, Deepchord, makes a more than welcome return to Soma after 5 years. With a brand new album dropping, Rod Modell delves deep into his ethereal sonic world to bring you 'Functional Extraits 1'. The first single to be taken from the forthcoming album. Built in a way that only Deepchord can, he transports you to different realms with lush soundscapes and perfectly processed electro-acoustics giving you an insight to the mind of the unique artist.
Shale glides across a field of electo-static noise, guided gently by cisps, fleeting percussion and gently warping synths. Lateral begins awash with waves of sound and glistening dub stabs while rolling beats acts as the heart beat of the track with a building intensity adding a sense of urgency. The uplifting yet dystopian sounds of Mapping spiral into existence urging you down the rabbit hole as more classic techno percussion manoeuvres this track on it's journey. Modell seeking out his roots as yet more traditional dub techno prevails via the final track, Ricochet. Pumping kicks and sub set to a perfect pace and ambience is a perfect, contemporary nod to the time honoured Deepchord sound.

Release Note:

Mancunian maestro Setaoc Mass returns for his second outing on Soma with the Fortnight EP. Drenched in his typical hard hitting, meticulously produced style, Sam's latest Soma 12" has him at the top of his game with 4 top quality tracks + a special bonus track for the digital EP.
"Time" opens the EP with a particularly hypnotic sound and a definite driving pace as swelling and pulsing background atmospheres give this a quite aggressive backbone. "Bluebells" is yet another dance floor rocking track that hits the ground running right from the start. Razor sharp poly-rhythmic structures keep the track interesting while intense percussive workouts provide the power. Title track "Fortnight" delves deeper whilst still remaining true to Sam's direct and tough sound; don't let this deeper side fool you, all the hallmarks of a proper banger remain intact! "Chaos" closes out things with a more groove laden and emotive tone as shuffling percussive elements funk things up before subtle synths work their way in giving the track a more melodic feel than the previous. Digital Bonus, "Necessary Evil", is a straight up, no nonsense dance floor workout.

Soma label heads Slam curate a specially designed package of tracks to finalize their Archive Edit project that sees them delve deep into Techno's past to bring some of the genre's best tracks into the modern age. The Archive Edit project started as a way for Slam to showcase and share the many different edits that had made their way into their DJ sets over the last few years. The pairing of Stuart McMillan & Orde Meikle have both raided their extensive collections, picking out tracks that have defined countless sets over their career. Tracks from luminaries such as Nitzer Ebb, Thomas P Heckmann (as Silent Breed), Damon Wild & Terrence Fixmer have been re-edited alongside some of Slam's own unreleased material, showcasing the duo's current sound; one that naturally evolves, matures and demonstrates why the duo have been at the forefront of the global scene since its inception.

Tracklisting:
A1 Phara - The Great Attractor
A2 Phara - The Great Attractor (Setaoc Mass remix)
B1 Phara - Mission 3, 2, 1
B2 Phara - The Andromeda Manoeuvre
Release Note:
Belgian based Phara makes a huge debut on Soma with The Great Attractor EP. With his fast, raw and energetic sound, Phara's ascent has been quick off the mark and this latest release has the young producer stretch himself farther with cleverly produced and exciting tracks. UK Techno don, Setaoc Mass backs up this already masterful EP, lending his own prowess to the title track.
Great Attractor leans on 90s, spaced out techno vibes as fast paced 909s fire against the backdrop of rapid, modulating synths. Setaoc Mass' remix comes up next, offering a deeper more restrained affair. However, as usual, the adept nature of his productions deal out devastating effect. On the flip, Mission 3,2,1 delves into dubbed out synth work whilst retaining drive and groove. Further dub explorations are found on closing track The Andromeda Manoeuvre. Spacial synth work and atmospherics ebb and flow as Phara's hard hitting and relentless percussive work deals the final blow.

Release Note:
Soma proudly presents Functional Designs, the latest collection of nocturnal environments from Deepchord, marking his first full length album release on Soma in 5 years. The enigmatic Detroit based producer once again transports us into his sonic realm via night-walks through numerous cities before being transmuted into aural excellence through field recordings, holographic synth tones, cosmic sounds and the hiss of electric wires. All swimming around in filtered 4/4 beats and subterranean basslines. The album is a perfect example of electroacoustic techno transmitted from undisclosed locations, the amalgamation of swirling tapestries of sound, deeper than night and lifeforms moving around underneath the grid.
The album glistens into existence with the beatless Amber breathing life into the project before the eventide of Darkness Falls offers a beautifully subtle and contemplative atmosphere. The guiding light of Transit Systems continues to offer up melancholy with echoing percussion and drifting soundscapes. The highly processed acoustics of Strangers brings a sense of intrigue to the album's journey as Modell works in the most percussive track so far. Panacast is exotic dub techno at it's finest, with warping and perfectly crafted synth work building gently over the top of sub heavy beats, glued perfectly together by the hiss of the collected found-sounds. In a slight rise in tempo, Cloudsat, makes a journey skyward, collecting mood and feelings from high altitude with its emotive synth work. The reverberating halls of Pressure again work as a testament to Modell's sonic crafting - honing in on specific artefacts from his field recordings, imbuing them with deeper purpose. The perfectly titled Ebb and Flow drifts effortlessly on a tide of evolving, blissful sound waves crashing to shore as each one overlaps the other. Beginning the descent into the final part of the album, you begin your ride across a cosmic plain, lit by the glistening and ethereal Sun. The meditative Memories opens a conduit to other realms as the album closes out with the elysian melodies of Drassanes.
Deepchord once again proves he is a producer like no other. A true sonic sculptor who uses his real world experience to create vast, unparalleled soundscapes that captivate and enthral the listener.

Slam collaborate with Hector Oaks, 999999999, Keith Tucker (AKA Optic Nerve), Amelie Lens, Rebekah, AnD & Perc, for a new five part Soma Records project LOUDER THAN CHAOS.
On March 2020 the world was abruptly thrown into collective disarray. The Pandemic stopped almost everything dead in its tracks. No social gatherings, self isolation, a sense of panic and bewilderment prevailed. An industry that had become so dependent on human connection and unity, was suddenly switched off and put on pause for an unforeseeable future.
It was in this climate that The Louder Than Chaos project was born, facilitated by Soma Records head honchos and techno protagonists Slam. A collaborative project with friends, colleagues and contemporaries normally only seen at airports, or events, now brought together under a completely different set of circumstances, allowing for a purposeful connection in a time of disconnect. The focus of the project is built on a powerful mutual participation, remotely constructed over time and fully intended for holding court on peak time dance floors when they inevitably return. That time has now finally come.
The Louder Than Chaos project is a series of 5 releases, on 12 vinyl" & Digital, to be released monthly via Soma Records. Featuring collaborations between Slam & Hector Oaks, Slam & 999999999 Slam & Keith Tucker (AKA Optic Nerve), + more to follow.
Each EP features specially commissioned artwork from German based artist PPP Panic, which consolidates into one constructive piece over the 5 releases.

Release Note:

Nørbak - Mirante" (Oscar Mulero remix)
Portuguese based Nørbak returns to Soma with his second single for the label, the Myelination EP. Nørbak is quickly making a name for himself in the global scene and has just completed his debut album to much critical acclaim. The young producer has built a wealth of knowledge on sound design and is clearly represented in his music which is deep and rich in sonic experiments whilst retaining dancefloor focus. This latest EP has Spanish techno maestro Oscar Mulero & fellow Portuguese talent Lewis Fautzi, deliver two fantastic remixes that perfectly compliment the originals.
Nørbak's "Myelination" starts the EP with driving percussive elements that propel the track from the opening. Swamped with light & ethereal FX, dark and droning sounds take the track down a ominous path. Lewis Fautzi steps up next with his remix of Myelination. With a more minimalistic interpretation he manages to continue the dark and direct momentum of the original. On the flip, Mirante rattle hards with steady and precise percussion, bolted together with heavy rolling kicks and sub and a perfectly muted rhythm throughout. Techno don Oscar Mulero closes the EP with his version of Mirante. He immediately ups the ante with driving 909 beats and huge atmospheric FX that guide the rhythms. Mulero always on point with his signature sound design and techno aesthetic

Italian Techno maestro SLV returns to Soma with his biggest release yet, the Under Pressure EP. With a slew of hits + an album under his belt at Soma, SLV ramps up the pace with this latest release. Two thunderous, rave-infected tracks lead the charge with remixes from label heads Slam and veteran Thomas P. Heckmann.
Opening track Perpetual Slaughter rips through the speakers with riot inducing vocals tearing at the heart of this massive bomb. Phoenix Rising continues the hard hitting theme as pulsing synths drive continuously letting up only momentarily before thrashing drums explode through. Soma label bosses, Slam, drop a typically wild remix of Perpetual Slaughter working in their own interpretation of the original's synth hook, complete with a decisive percussive assault. Legendary Techno artist Thomas P Heckmann delivers a seriously funked up, 90s-esq version of Perpetual Slaughter. Manipulating his hardware and twisting the synths to give his typically authentic and renowned, body music sound.
Tracks 1,2 & 3 Mastered By Conor Dalton @ Glowcast Mastering. Track 4 Mastered By Thomas P. Heckmann

Masked Techno assassin Buried Secrets returns to Soma with a massive new release featuring his signature hard and distorted Techno with the Destiny Defeated EP. With several Soma releases under his belt including 2020's huge "Of Lost Things EP", Buried Secrets continues his assault with this massive new EP.
Title track "Destiny Defeated" roars into life with relentless percussion and a ripping rave infected synth hook. "Vanishing Point" is a proper heads down, no nonsense affair - a little more subtle than the opening track but just as intensive. "Dream Stalker" heads into proper Hard Techno territory with thundering, pulsating low end as the hook opens into a more euphoric affair. "Land of The Lost" closes the EP with a huge flourish. A superbly crafted synth sequence loops and hypnotises as the drums workout batters you into submission.

BOX SET INFO
WRWTFWW Records is very excited to celebrate the 40 years anniversary of cult band Grauzone with the release of their definitive and comprehensive Limited 40 Years Anniversary Box Set, packed with their complete discography, as well as a never-released-before live recording, an 80-page fanzine with an extensive biography written by Swiss music historian Lurker Grand, unseen archival material, and artist contributions, and a poster replica of an original concert flyer from 1980.
Conceived, conceptualized and supervised by original band member Stephan Eicher, the box set includes the following exclusive content:
- Grauzone's self-titled album from 1981 reissued as a 180g vinyl double LP with 9 additional tracks, amounting to the band's complete studio discography. Included are the classics "Eisbär", "FILM 2", "Raum", "Moskau", "Träume Mit Mir", "Der Weg Zu Zweit", and "Wütendes Glas (Maxi Version)", as well as the deep and unconventional album cuts that make Grauzone so unique. The double LP is housed in a heavy gatefold sleeve, with liner notes by Lurker Grand, an insert with the original album's lyrics, and a special Xeroxed artwork imagined by Stephan Eicher.
- Grauzone's LIVE LP, a recording of their April 12th 1980 concert at Gaskessel in their hometown of Bern, Switzerland, with a sleeve artwork by Stephan Eicher.
- An 80-page Fanzine containing the history of Grauzone written by Lurker Grand, never-seen images of the band and their collaborators and incredible snapshots of the late 70s/early 80s underground scene in Switzerland, as well as artist contributions by Christian Marclay, Genesis P-Orridge, Sylvie Fleury, John Armleder, Maurizio Cattelan, Gregor Hildebrandt and more, cementing Grauzone's Art band with a Punk attitude ethos.
- A 60 x 90 cm poster replica of Grauzone's Spex (Bern) concert flyer from October 25 1980.
Absolutely ALL the elements included in this box set collection were photocopied by hand with a vintage Xerox machine before being printed, as wished by Stephan Eicher (who took care of photocopy duties for a good chunk of the material). A bold artistic choice, a nod to the DIY ways of the era this release represents, and drawing a parallel between the acts of reissuing and photocopying.
GRAUZONE INFO
The pioneering band from Bern (Switzerland) had a short-lived but highly-regarded career which birthed a cult discography that still fascinates and resonates today. Consisting of core members Martin Eicher, Stephan Eicher, and Marco Repetto, and on-and-off participants Christian GT Trüssel, Claudine Chirac, and Ingrid Berney, the elusive group broke new grounds in the early 80s, experimenting with punk and industrial music, early techno sounds, minimalism, new wave, pop, and various electronics. With an innovative and polished approach to design, visuals, performance, and all around style and philosophy on top of their superb music, the constantly transforming unit developed a whole experience - the Grauzone experience: wild and unpredictable, yet sophisticated and cohesive, or as Swiss music historian Lurker Grand would call it, "an Art band with a Punk attitude".
Completely rejecting the music industry rules and refusing to play the game of promotion, touring, release schedules, and TV appearances even though they had a multi-platinum international hit with the song "Eisbär", the band quickly disintegrated in full convention-defying glory, leaving behind an inspiring music legacy for the world to discover and discover again, one generation after the other.
Stephan Eicher went on to be, arguably, the most successful Swiss musician ever, with an international career extending from pop chanson to experimental escapades and collaborations with Moondog, artists Sophie Calle and John Armleder, and author Martin Suter among many other luminaries. Marco Repetto flourished as a techno and ambient producer, releasing multiple projects including releases on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label.

The Latin House EP by the 2 Italian producers. This stuff is the perfect floor fillers for the summer of 2025. While the Afrohouse wave has reached its peak and is becoming a bit „tacky“ a lot of underground DJs turned into playling different styles of latin music connected to electronic dance. And here we got Salsa and Boogaloo turned into 90’s house and indie dance. All of these will make the dancers get their hands in the air. Smiling faces and lot of endorphins secured.

Alton Miller feat. Maurissa Rose - Bring Me Down (Coflo Instrumental)
No Return!
Cataleya Music continues 2025 in style with the powerful Bring Me Down. Alton Miller is no stranger to the label,
having remixed Mark Francis' Exclusively last year. Miller has a Detroit House pedigree stretching back to the
1980s and today can be found on labels like Mister Bear and Quintessentials. Detroit's Maurissa Rose has
worked with everyone from Dave Lee to Theo Parrish. Bring Me Down appeared on Sound Signature in 2017
and is back now with new remixes. Alton Miller's Remix features a strong vocal display and understanding keys.
The Instrumental focuses closely on those keys and organic percussion. Coflo continues his relationship with
Cataleya with stellar remixes. Coflo's Vocal Remix employs a flute, which gives Maurissa's vocals a melancholic
tinge. His Instrumental sees the flute fly alongside a sturdy backend. Cataleya Music is already shaping up for a
strong 2025.

Chaos In The CBD - The Eternal Checkout feat. Cenk Esen
Format: 2LP, 140g black vinyl, Limited Edition Gatefold Sleeve with Liner Notes, Satin finish.
“We created a holiday inside our heads.”
Over the past decade, Chaos In The CBD, the brotherly production duo of Louis and Ben Helliker-Hales, have captivated global audiences with their spectral, jazz-inflected deep house sound. With over 100 million streams worldwide, the New Zealand-born, London-based artists are set to release their highly anticipated debut album, A Deeper Life on May 9, 2025 via the label head’s very own In Dust We Trust imprint.
To celebrate the announcement, Chaos In The CBD have shared the atmospheric lead single ‘Love Language’, featuring fellow New Zealander Nathan Haines on Saxophone. It’s an undeniable standout moment on the album—moody, ethereal, and naturally soothing. Speaking on the track, Chaos In The CBD explains: “‘Love Language’ is a track that suits almost any setting, evoking the laid-back, easygoing rhythm of life in New Zealand. Perfect for a road trip to the beach or those magical moments at an after party when the sun reappears. Love Language feels like a reflection of the journey that brought it to life and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.”
The 14 track LP marks a significant evolution in Chaos In The CBD’s artistic journey. Known for their signature sound epitomised by their breakout EP Midnight In Peckham on Rhythm Section, the duo’s debut album unites live instrumentation and vocal collaborations for the first time, fusing together key musical influences such as Ambient, Soulful house, R&B, Jazz & Balearic into a melting pot of an epic journey that will surely become a future classic. If Midnight In Peckham was the duo’s coming of age; then their debut album is Chaos In The CBD coming full circle. It features contributions from legendary figures such as Josh Milan of Blaze, Lee Pearson Jr., Stephanie Cooke and UK grime MC Novelist, among others.
Though they’ve been based in London for over a decade, Louis and Ben (aka Beans) have never stopped feeling at one with their homeland. A Deeper Life is nostalgic for their nature-filled youth, exploring the magical coastline and lush rainforest of New Zealand. “The title refers to our childhood, which was idyllic,” says Ben. “It was just the sun, the sand, the sea, waterfalls, birds and fish...” The result is an international dance sound that feels unmistakably like Chaos and ebbs and flows from the beach party to the club to the afterhours. “It’s laid-back but still driving at the same time; it’s club ready, but still deep,” Ben explains. It’s also distinctly Balearic: The brothers found a particular affinity with 90s Ibiza chillout music, being from such a “chill place” themselves. “In its own way, New Zealand is incredibly Balearic, but without the party side” says Ben.
The brothers hope that their debut evidences their deep appreciation of 90s house music, from David Morales’s Red Zone mixes and Kerri Chandler to DJ Sprinkles, Larry Heard and beyond. “We didn’t go to the school of hard knocks, we went to the school of Carl Cox,” they wrote in one of their typically hilarious posts on Instagram. But while they’ve built a meme-driven online personality for their social media accounts, their album shows a deeper side to them too. “We joke around but we want this album to be taken seriously,” says Louis. “It’s music from all around the globe, and there’s a deep meaning to how it flows and sticks together”.
For Chaos In The CBD, A Deeper Life is more than an album—it’s a celebration of their roots, their community, and their enduring bond as brothers. “This is a love letter to home and the feeling of being within nature,” says Louis. “It’s also an ode to a slower pace of life.” The album is an invitation to journey through their world: from the beaches of New Zealand to the heart of London’s dancefloors, and everywhere in between. A Deeper Life is set to be both a club-ready triumph and a reflective escape for listeners worldwide.
