With The Tiger, Matias Aguayo returns to Kompakt with his first EP for the label since 2014’s Legende. Since then, he’s been busy with all manner of experiments and explorations – a monthly radio show on Worldwide FM, 2019’s Support Alien Invasion; the essential El Rudo Del House series; an album on Crammed Discs with his group The Desdemonas; collaborations with Sano and Gladkazuka (as Rionegro), DJ Spoko, Mujaji, Julianna, a new trio with DJs Pareja, named MDM Factory, and the latest offering on his Cómeme imprint, El Cameron featuring Ricardo Villalobos. But something special happens when Aguayo returns to the mothership, as though he’s reconnecting with something essential: “pop melancholy is just right there,” he says.

On The Tiger, Aguayo is in touch with the core of the flame, the music that’s at the centre of his being. While most of the music may have originated “in the foggy Mexican forest,” he’s sure that the EP is “still a Cologne record,” something you can hear as soon as the prowling bass, shuffling rhythms and ghostly voices of the title track lope stealthily into earshot. The titular character is caught up in the sensuous tangle of the night, that space between dusk’s delirium and dawn’s dreaming. Aguayo sings, “Do you see the same I see? Are we having the same dream?” – here, he’s picturing an after-hours revelation, “on a warm muggy night with all sorts of background noise from various nightwalking animals – but at the same time, I was a city dweller stranded in the jungle, who still dressed like he was about to go to the disco.”

The ascending, ever-circling bass of “Nightshift, The Red” tells another story, a spiralling mantra that’s hypnotically psychedelic, yet elegant, refined, filled with sonic textures you can almost reach out and touch, like knotted twists of exotic fabric. “The lyrics are very associative and somewhere between urban and jungle nightlife,” Aguayo mentions, “fireflies shine, but also the reflections of the disco ball.” “Show Me What You’re Feeling” takes us back to the 1990s, with Aguayo re-working some vocal and lyrical fragments from three decades ago, its beautiful uncertainty remarkable in what Aguayo calls its “extremely emotional openness”. Dappled with melancholy, it’s a lover’s hymn to intimacy and vulnerability.

Aguayo signs off The Tiger with “El Propio Propio”, a celebratory ending to an EP that’s rich and complex, full of lovely musical moments – the tender melodies woven through “Show Me What You’re Feeling”; the warping, pliable, plastic textures that Aguayo crumples and crinkles through “El Propio Propio”. Like much of Aguayo’s music, The Tiger highlights the senses, to advance a new sensibility, one that inhabits a fever-dream of hints and clues, a mystery that’s solved by the deep, dark sensuality of the rhythms here, fully in love with the nightlife. It finds its exoticism in unexpected moments, sideways glances, surprising twists and turns. After all, as Aguayo says, “moths are far more glamorous and mysterious than butterflies.”

“A Cómeme classic that was ahead of its time finds a new life in fresh mixes by Matias Aguayo and Ricardo Villalobos” In a surprising turn of events Cómeme reissues Matias Aguayo’s “El Camarón” from his album “The Visitor” (2013) in a new 12” extended club mix including a remix of none other than Ricardo Villalobos. The latter suggested to give this forgotten latin new beat gem a new life! He had recently rediscovered it, and added to his sets - including his own 12 minute fabulous remix, which is driven by a mesmerizing groove and pumpin sub bass frequencies. Danny Howells debuts on Rekids with the ‘Throb’ EP. The legendary DJ’s DJ first EP for Radio Slave’s imprint sees him pair with keyboard player Elliott Herrington. Howells, a quietly revered figure in house music since the mid ‘90s, delves deep across the ‘Throb’ EP, which celebrates subtle drum programming, otherworldly keys and soundscapes throughout. The cossetting warmth of ‘Throb’, a track which tips the smallest of nods to Danny’s role in the heyday of progressive house, was born out of a late-night studio session - long forgotten about and then rediscovered, re-appraised, as so many great tracks are. ‘Thrunk’, another supremely heady cut, follows and sees keys slide around the mix, modulated and tweaked just enough to create a constant feeling of movement without losing balance, firmly rooted by a bassline that Howells, contrary to his usual practice, wrote first. Danny Howells is a darling of British dance music. Emerging in the late 1990s with the likes of the era-defining Jackpot Records, his journey in dance music has always been about music, which has seen him eschew frantic touring and production schedules in favour of doing what he loves. Kiko Navarro & Pere Navarro land on Radio Slave’s Rekids with their ?rst-ever EP, ‘Les Cousins’. Their debut release counts three tracks, merging infectious House grooves with Pere’s Jazz-in?ected trumpet solos for a stylish EP rooted in classic sounds, yet with a distinct modern edge to it. Both hailing from the Balearic Islands, Kiko, a seasoned DJ and producer from Mallorca with music on King Street Sounds, Pacha Recordings, Shall Not Fade and more, and Pere, a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer from Ibiza. Despite sharing a last name, the pair are not related, meeting for the ?rst time at a private party where Pere spontaneously joined Kiko’s DJ set on trumpet, after which their partnership continued when Kiko invited Pere to record a trumpet solo for a Louie Vega remix, leading up to the creation of their debut ‘Les Cousins’ EP, landing on Rekids this May.

Oliver Dollar presents Contemporary Part Three on Rekids The third instalment features collaborations with Ben Silver, Boogs, and Hazmat, and features Apropos and Boog Brown. Berlin’s Oliver Dollar unveils part three of his ‘Contemporary’ series, releasing on Radio Slave’s Rekids 4th April 2025 and following up last year’s parts one and two, which featured the likes of Harvard Bass, Brillstein, ADMN, and Austin Ato, and won support from the likes of Nightmares On Wax, Anja Schneider, Laurent Garnier, Carista, Jennifer Cardini, Dam Swindle, and more. Part three of Contemporary sees Oliver Dollar invite another cast of hotly tipped collaborators, kicking offthe EP with Melbourne DJ and producers Ben Silver and Boogs - both resident DJs at Revolver Upstairs - for ‘Cosmic Weapon’. Their track features lush, poignant chords underpinned by a rolling groove, with vocal samples warped, chopped, and sliced above for a mind-melting trip. Tal Fussman returns to Rekids with the ‘I Feel’ EP. Rekids welcomes back Tal Fussman with the ‘I Feel’ EP, following up his 2024 ‘De?nition’ EP on Radio Slave’s label, which won support from the likes of Honey Dijon, Orlando Voorn, Yu Su, Saoirse, Dave Clarke, and more. In 2011 Kevin Saunderson, Ann Saunderson and Paris Grey, collectively known as the legendary band Inner City, released ‘Future’, their first entirely new material since taking a break in 1996, written and produced in collaboration with another Detroit legend, namely Kenny Larkin, and the very talented producer / remixer Orlando Voorn. The track marked a welcome return for a group that combined the tough, futuristic grooves of the Detroit scene with the vocal energy of R&B and gospel and helped to define the period in which house and techno moved from underground phenomena to top 10 material, paving the way for hundreds of dance hits to come. The Kenny Larkin remix devastated dancefloors at the time and continues to do so over 10 years since its release. Now fully reissued backed with the Carl Craig edit from the original pressing and the MK AW Deep Dub which had previously only seen a one-sided hand stamped white label vinyl outing.
