Chris Liebing drops ‘Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP’ on
CLR this January.
For the first CLR release of 2023, Chris Liebing drops a heavy-hitting EP for his own imprint, the two-track
‘Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP’. Leading the release, ‘For Those Who Fight’ combines
sub-rattling kicks and siren-esque bleeps with rousing vocal samples and shimmering percussion for a
warehouse-filling club cut. ‘With Passion And Faith’ keeps the energy levels high with dubbed-out FX, twisted
atmospherics and sizzling drum machines.
While 2022 was dominated by Liebing’s ‘Another Day’ LP and remix version, ‘Another Night’, for Daniel
Miller’s Mute, 2023 will see Liebing in full-on singles mode with some notable collaborations to come.
Liebing’s iconic CLR imprint started in 1999 and returned in 2021 after a five-year hiatus. Now titled Create
Learn Repeat, CLR reemerged in the techno underground with releases from Liebing himself, followed by
newcomer Frankie Bromley, upstarts Hertz Collision & Gene Richards Jr, DEAS, Truncate, Drumcell and
techno legend Luke Slater.

"Usually, I try to build my tracks around as minimum sounds as possible, but in this case all these lead sounds just made sense to me", says ROD.
The second track "GHT" sees ROD experimenting at a late trippy night and just flowing it out.
"This might be one of the weirdest tracks I have made so far. It reminds me it's always a good thing to search and experiment when your usual way of doing things doesn't inspire you anymore".

Distant is Rebekah's 2nd release on CLR, after the success of her first Cycles EP back in 2013, the long awaited second single Distant is veering towards a deeper side of this Artist's repertoire. Rebekah has been pushing her sound forward in the studio and has in the last year worked more and more with analogue synths and sequencers which is evident in the title track. Opting for a more broken beat and using a vast palette to create a soundscape that keeps the groove moving forward, which opens up with darker pads, maintaining the mood and feel. Distant Memory takes sounds from the original track and shapes it into something slightly different and unpredictable by Rebekah, showcasing a completely new element of this artists work. Its downtempo and slightly experimental but also warm and inviting. Synchronicity lifts up the pace and is a full out techno groove workout, Rebekah's signature kicks come in to play but is almost more elegant here, complimenting the Distant pieces but also holding its own within the more discerning of dance floors. STERAC has produced two fantastic remixes of the title track Distant, remix 1, is more of a groovier exploration where as remix 2 (digital only), leans to the more hypnotic side, both remixes are outstanding as expected from STERAC aka Steve Rachmad, modern techno at its best.

CLR is back with release number 83 and has something very special in store this time. Monoloc's latest effort offers a challenging mixture of various electronic music genres. Apart from the original version and the Monoloc Edit, which occupy the A side of the vinyl, two highly respected producers have contributed remixes to this project, making it an impressive assembly of potential A sides. Monoloc's original version underlines the capacity of the Berlin based producer, to create unorthodox, suspenseful Techno with a very personal handwriting. Once more the beat structure, treatment of vocal bits, the selection of sounds and the overall arrangement and production style make his productions easily recognizable and truly unique. His additional edit surprises with a mesmerizing and enchanting sequence, which could easily become one of those laid back after hour sunrise classics. The two versions alone would make a dignified EP already, but then there are the remixes by Roman Lindau and Rødhåd, which turn this release into one of the most diversified CLR releases ever. While Roman Lindau takes a House oriented direction and excellently works out the potential of the track on the more uplifting side of the musical spectrum, Berghain resident Rødhåd explores the dark side of Monoloc's composition and delivers a haunting Techno version full of well balanced bass, phasing sequences and an irresistible, almost tribal rhythm structure. CLR083 is one of those releases that characterises the direction the label has taken over the last years and is equally interesting to DJs from all kinds of stylistic branches of the scene. It´s available on vinyl as well as digitally and will surely grace countless record bags and playlists all over the world.

Once more, Rebekah has chosen a mixture of tracks by fellow CLR players and other colleagues she admires for their cutting edge, quality production style. Long-time CLR artist and mastering technician Brian Sanhaji contributed "Gyre", the first track of the release and a truly mesmerizing, acidic journey, which fulfills the usual, extremely high sonic standard the experienced producer is known for. The second track "Berkel" was produced by Dualit and is characterized by a comparatively laid-back vibe with a gently driving rhythm, irresistibly haunting atmospheres and sequences. It closes the A-side of the vinyl and leaves you with the urge to turn it around and keep listening. The B-side contains two more tracks by Bas Mooy and by Rebekah herself. Bas Mooy´s "Exile" is another good example of minimalistic, driving and hypnotic Techno with an extraordinary rhythm and a diversified structure, while Rebekah manifests with "Zero Point" what she is best known for: straight-forward, full on, banging Techno with heaps of positive energy from the relentless side of the genre. Her second "Mind Sets" effort is a thoughtful selection, a dignified continuation of the first part of the sampler and should be enjoyed loud on top-notch sound systems. Only released in October 2006, Anders Trentemøller‘s stunning debut-album „The Last Resort“ already evolved into one of the most successful independent albums of the year. Raving reviews all over the place, various elections as „album of the year“ and solid playlists at the radios express the huge interest in the fantastic album. While 2006 has been topped of with a tour through Australia, the first Trentemøller highlight in 2007 will be the release of „Moan“, the second single from the album. For the a-side Trentemøller himself created a brilliant remix of the „Moan“-Vocal Version, which has been released on the Bonus-CD of the limited edition album only. Trentemøller managed to keep the mystic melancholic vibe of the track featuring the vocals of danish talent Ane Trolle, but adds punshy drums, screaming synths and some more guitars to guarantee serious dancefloor-action. Radioslave aka Matt Edwards aka Rekid aka Quite Village, on of the most in demand remix artists at the moment (Moby, Booka Shade, Justice, Peace Division, Pet Shop Boys, Joakim etc) contributed a great remix on the flipside. Slowly building over reduced drumpatterns their mix culminates into a manic wall of sound. While Poker Flat 81 features the vocal versions of both Trentemøller‘s and Radioslve‘s remixes, the instrumental and dub versions will be released simultaneously

Kicking things off with the title track “Azul“, we start moody and deep, with a hypnotic
‘heads-down’ late night vibe from the off. A constant pad adds to the depth while tinkly tones hint at burst of warmth.
“Tristesse“ is a wondrous deep and warm slab of goodness. Deep yet oozing of sunshine with its bouncy vibe throughout.
“Forces“ is a sophisticated groover, with its swagger from the off setting the tone, interspersed with cool little blips and fx adding texture and bringing this timeless cut to the forefront.
“Nipon“ is one of those tracks that sets the tone. A skippy and energetic feel, yet with a restrained soundscape gentle caressing its workout. Bubbling and flavourful, and we like it!"

Mihai Popoviciu: "The album’s called "home" because it is inspired by my experiences from my home city Sibiu in Romania. Home is also the place where the album was produced, in my stripped down studio. It is where I always return to rest and chill after touring the world and the place where I feel most safe and comfortable. The artwork shows an image of the airport lane in Sibiu with surrounding hills and mountains in the back. It is a metaphoric "gate" to both leave and return home."

Across the project Mihai delivers his signature dance floor focused, stripped back style with ‘ACK’, showcasing the hypnotic and percussive style Popoviciu executes so well. The project also drifts into smooth dubby realms via compositions like ‘Cannon Poets’ and ‘Sunshine’ while the likes of ‘Music 999’ radiantly display Mihai’s proficient production abilities as he wanders into a brighter more house centric sound.

All in all Mihai Popoviciu turns in a coherent long player whilst exploring a broad range of styles, ‘Focus and ‘Havana’ lay down a groove-led feel with subtle modulations and an unfaltering structure, while ‘Data On Data’ and ‘Hypnosia’ tip the focus over to dark and brooding territories with murky synth pads and chuggy low end tones. Once again Popoviciu has proven himself to be one of Romania’s finest electronic music exports.
