This release is a nod to the club. 5 tracks that are made for dancing in the dark.

Hypnosis is a mind control laced phenom. S.Ringer lends his voice as your guide to gratitude, and a good time as you move to the chords that push and pull your body to the beat.

The title track Echo Chamber, is an aggressively rhythmic beat. The atonal melody is accompanied by a looping bass-line that calls for circling the floor indefinitely.

Nasty is Stefan's current interpretation of a chicago style jack track. Simple and effective chunky drums with a jackin’ cadence are agreeably accompanied by panicked staccato synth lines and an almost hollow growling distorted bass that enforce the assignment…. to Jack!

Slanted House is a cool down. Feels like a tall glass of ice water after the heated dance session you just had. With chords that are smooth and deep, laced with that rhythm and bass-line that moves you instantly.

Sweet Chariot is a jewel in the crown of this release. Simply put, a song that is so smooth and yet grooves so strongly. A skating song if you will. Reminiscent of the so so def era in Atlanta but more laid back.

These are indeed 5 interesting dance cuts to match different temperatures of a party.

Atalanta’s hotly tipped Stefan Ringer comes correct with a four-track breeze through deep, hazed out, syncopated house for Second Hand Records. Following standout releases on the likes of NDATL, People's Potential Unlimited and Argot and comparisons with the likes of Marcellus Pittman and Kyle Hall, Ringer is a talent you do not want to pass up.

Though never in doubt, 'Side Notes' sets out Ringers stall for all to see. At points MPC crunched samples lay over the top of punchy basslines and echoed ad libs, at others free flowing keys dance around layered drum loops and off kilter percussive hits.

Again, Stefan Ringer brings forth that heat! Four tracks made for the floor. The A1 "DoU?" begins with the classic phrase "she loves me, she loves me not". A nod to the tunneling vocals throughout the track. Hard hitting drums and percussion get you pumped and ready to take the journey. Deep emotional chords press on; as a thumping sub bass line connects everything together. A2 is "The Loop". Crispy 808 claps and hats lure your ears, while deeper chord stabs wrap everything in a package you can't refuse. The real star is the fat almost hollow bass line that hypnotizes you. The angelic synth harmonica solos throughout leave you begging for more. B1, "Reach", features the silk-like vocals of Detroit's own Javonntte. The chord stabs, drums, and bass line really show out on this track. Proven to work in clubs across the world, by the likes of Kai Alce, JT Donaldson, Ash Lauryn, ByronThe Aquarius, Wajeed, Patrice Scott, and Touching Bass, this one is definitely for the floor. Finally the B2, "Love2U", showcases Stefan's ability to slow things down without missing a step. Smooth, simple, and intelligent, the melody is the star of this track. Sensual and expressive vocals convey the message of this tune. The solo provided near the end articulates how much more there is to come from Stefan and this label. You need this.

FWM Entertainment has kept that same energy in its second release by label head, Stefan Ringer. The A side track "SO" is instantly exciting! The chorded turned arpeggiated melody and rhythm section take over your body and the song invokes different feelings and emotions as it progresses; this is a song you will definitely want to have for this summer and beyond. Over on the B side, "Afrotine" brings a more tropical broken beat type of flavor. The percussive yet chromatic sound of the kalimba is almost hypnotizing. Sunshine, cool breezes, and smiles come to mind when hearing this one. The B2, "Time" is a slowed down vocal groove that slaps! The melody floats effortlessly along the beat with the bass line following closely behind, complimenting the changes throughout. Overall this one is a keeper and a great follow-up to the acclaimed FWM001.

25-year old Bristol based multi-instrumentalist Memotone (aka William Yates) returns with a bleak, beautiful and politicised new album, set for release on electronic mavens Black Acre in April. His new album "Chime Hours" follows his stunning debut LP "I Sleep. At Walking." A master of 11 instruments, Memotone comes from a family of artists and grew up on a diet of grunge, minimal classical compositions and electronic music. Yates is also an illustrator and film composer (he recently sound-tracked a horror serial produced by Eli Roth), something that runs deep within his avant-garde productions. Creating an otherworldly sate of mind with sonic soundscapes, the albums roots twists around rural horror, techno and neo-classical sounds mixed with field recordings documenting archaic seasonal ceremonies. From the spiralling darkness and crackled techno pulse of "Poison Arrow" to Memotone's ghostly melodies intersecting brutal electronics on "All Collapsed", the album buzzes with a variation of moods and ideas from an artist not afraid to run the full gamut of emotions. Emphasizing texture over tone, "CHIME HOURS" is heavily centered around the sounds of a analogue synthesizer, whilst also featuring live cello, piano, clarinet, violin, church organ, guitars/bass and trumpet that's given a distorted twist. The album also sees Memotone bring his voice further forward; creating brief flourishes of glimmering effects. On tracks "All Collapsed" and "You Saw the Future" Memotone toys with ideas surrounding a post apocalyptic world that's stripped bare by humans, whereas the rest of the album takes influence from The Middle Ages; rituals, civil war, gritty hand to hand combat and a fear of ghosts and the religion that surrounds them. Memotone recorded the rituals practiced at a folk celebration in a village near where he grew up, explaining that: "I thought, perhaps there is a reflection of our distant future in our past. Not only the middle ages but spanning human history. We have already lived, and more importantly survived; through times as hard as the ones we are self imposing now." The title "CHIME HOURS" is taken from English folklore, which believed that those born at certain hours could see ghosts. Layered with abstract noises, analogue electronica and snatches of fragile melody, "CHIME HOURS" evokes darkened alleyways and ethereal worlds, making for a deeply immersive album that's testament to a distinctively inventive artist.

Returning home after the acclaimed Holding EP and the highly regarded Clap Clap Remix, Lurka continues with his journey into sonic bat country. Partials kicks off with Lurka's typical intrigue, pads swell with distant spectres of percussion build into the most saturated kick of the year slapping you in the face like wet rag, while an architecture of syncopated hats and bit crunching snares lock the angles a shower of haunting bells falls. *Welcome to the first instalment of the Black Acre library series curated and created by long-time Hip Hop production boss and Strange U beat-bruiser, Dr Zygote. His mantra in creating this LP has an almost Jack White level of reductionism. “In this day and age where people have almost too many sonic options at their fingertips, I find it easier to spark my creativity if I limit myself in some way, give myself a set of rules to work within on a project. That’s why on this one I decided to only use sounds I'd played and recorded myself, no samples.”
*Although Grupo Zygote masquerades as a throw-back library album it’s genre busting content places it on the cutting edge of Black Acre’s output. The dissonant sounds of Giallo are dripping with the grainy gore of 70’s horror. Nods are given to contemporary classics like Photek’s Hidden Camera while Eastern Jazz and the heavy tape delay of King Tubby are regular visitors. It’s Zygote’s basement dubbing techniques which hold together this album bursting with globe spanning flavour. *“It was really fun playing with Dub mixing techniques on this project. Almost all the tracks use tape echoes I hooked up using my tape machine and the mixer.” *As you can tell from the depth of production on offer here Dr Zee is no new-jack, dropping his first Jungle record when he was just 16 and following with 2 more on the classic Essex imprint Juice Records. Turntablism was then his pathway back into realms of Hip Hop where he still breaks boundaries with long time cohort Jazz T on their 14 year deep imprint Boot Records. If this wasn’t enough Dr Zygote has a strong reputation building in modern electronics through his leftward Zoot label and new Eglo signings Strange U.

Defected’s vinyl series continues to commit the label’s biggest digital releases to wax, delivering the best house music previously unavailable on vinyl, and this nineteenth edition collates four unmissable releases from 2023’s incredible summer season. Opening the compilation, British house favourite Jansons delivers old skool vibes with ‘Hypnotic’, championed by 90s hip-hop and RnB inspired vocal vocals courtesy of Dope Earth Alien. Next up, LP Giobbi’s long-awaited Defected debut came in the form of ‘Giodisco’, a joyful, vibrant club cut that showcased the live musician and producer’s disco-adjacent sound. Named King of the Edit since the 1980’s, pioneering Manhattan DJ Danny Krivit’s (aka Mr K) latest 12” delivery instils the title bestowed upon him some 30 years ago. An esteemed selector Danny’s prolific remixing and production capabilities have touched hundreds of records – with his signature flare shaping the New York City sound. Opening the A-Side of the release, is Danny edit this summer’s seminal track The Vision’s ‘Heaven’, interweaving a gloriously groovy bassline with Andreya Triana’s vocal to produce an extended, DJ friendly mix that he sent crowds wild with at Dekmental Festival. Danny’s stripped back version extends the jazzy, percussive original, as velvety smooth vocals and elegant keys bring this expressive and sophisticated release to a close. A true master of the edit, music as good as this deserves to be heard on wax.
