In his 30th year of releasing music, Jimpster returns to Freerange with Bassic Rollers, a brand new four-track EP
that reaffirms his status as one of UK house music’s most enduring and inventive figures. This marks his first full
release since the highly regarded The Phoenix EP on the legendary Nu Groove imprint, and follows his recent
accolade of being named Traxsource Top Artist of the Year, placing at an impressive #11. With Bassic Rollers,
Jimpster once again distils decades of dancefloor knowledge into four deeply musical club weapons.
Opening the release, Out And About finds Jimpster firmly in his sweet spot. Deep, rolling and effortlessly musical, the
track showcases his trademark sample chops, locked-in with punchy drums and a warm, hypnotic bassline. Inspired
by his recent gigs in South Africa, it’s a mesmerising late-night roller built for heads-down dancefloors and long blends.
Heads Down nudges the BPMs upward for a slice of classic, hypnotic deep house with a distinctly UK slant. Drawing
inspiration from late ’90s club culture - the kind of grooves you might have heard on a Wednesday night at Kenny and
Luke’s influential Space nights at Bar Rhumba - the track channels the spirit and energy of pivotal outfits such as Fresh
& Low or Soul Capsule. Tight, bouncing drums, shuffling hi-hats and sweeping synths combine for a driving, strippedback burner.
Flipping to the B-side, Crispy Pancakes takes a sharp turn into mutant disco territory. A crunchy kick, tight 808 hats
and driving analogue percussion form the backbone, while a looped live bass sample adds the raw energy. When the
drop lands, the track dives deep with arpeggiated synth lines and unmistakable Underground Resistance-style pads,
delivering an uplifting and euphoric moment primed for peak-time floors.
Closing out the EP, Far Side lowers the tempo for a sublime slice of deep disco house. Rich in samples, layered
percussion and textured FX, it’s a track designed for warm-ups, wind-downs, or those moments when the dancefloor
drifts inward. Hypnotic and immersive, this is one to get lost in.
Once again, Jimpster delivers deeply musical club music, effortlessly weaving together different sounds and

Opening the release we have one of the most interesting, boundary-pushing artists - Bawrut, who twists Burning Up into outer space. Never one to shy away from a bit of
high drama in his tracks, he squeezes every ounce of the original through his sonic mangle resulting in a bass bin wobbling slice of intergalactic house music which confidently stands out in the crowd. Next up, and in perfect contrast, we have UK producer Telfort flipping Becoming Cyclonic on its head. UK-born DJ, producer and label boss Jimpster debuts on cult label Nu Groove in 2025 with a fresh set of four originals, The Phoenix EP, now on wax. Across this four-track collection, Jimpster showcases over two decades of production expertise, starting with a title track that showcases a club-ready sound built for the underground; ‘The Phoenix’ builds a tight groove through the ebb and flow of overlapping rhythmic patterns. What follows is ‘Lightening In Me’ featuring vocals from East London’s Oliver Night, an electronic artist and songwriter whose work has been supported by the likes of tastemakers Kerri Chandler, Gilles Peterson and Honey Dijon. Following a string of big remixes for the likes of Underground Resistance keys man Jon Dixon, Dave Lee, Miguel Migs and his downtempo LP Birdhouse, we’re pleased to announce a new Jimpster EP entitled Tribute. Featuring South African vocalist Mavhungu and two remixes from Yoruba maestro Osunlade, the release shows Jamie Odell in fine form fusing deep, afro and soulful house on the lead track and rubber-bassline bouncing jazz and acid lurking on the B2. Leading the EP, Tribute is a track inspired by Jamie’s trips to South Africa, a country hailed by many as the deep house capitol of the world. Having played there many times over the years he always returns feeling energised by the sights, sounds and experiences. Having recently remixed a track for Foliage featuring Mavhungu it felt like a natural move to collaborate together on an original track and here she delivers a brilliant vocal celebrating the beauty of Africa in her native language Venda. Mixing up organic and electronic sounds is something Jimpster has always done to great effect, ensuring there is a looseness and bounce to the groove with contemporary sonic textures blending with classic Rhodes pads and analogue synth lines. Who better to draft in for a remix than the Yoruba Soul maestro himself, Osunlade. The producer and DJ whose music has been knocking our socks off since first hearing his debut LP Paradigms in 2001 stays true to his roots on two versions of Tribute. Th first goes heavier on the vocal, keeping the instrumentation and groove more stripped back leaving plenty of space for subtle Rhodes chords and synth flourishes to shine. His Jazzstrumental version switches up the groove and pushes a repeating Rhodes riff and chords to the fore, making for a rolling remix which will warm the dance floor with its soulful vibe. Closing out the EP we have another original track in the form of Jacidswing. With the clue in the title, this little gem sees Jimpster fusing a bubbling 303 bassline with swinging jazzy drums and washes of synthy ambience to form something deep, immersive and slow burning in the way he does so well.

Jimpster’s lockdown LP was made throughout 2020 and finally sees the light of day at the end of February 2022 having been delayed around 6 months due to the ongoing vinyl pressing hold ups. Birdhouse is the revered producers seventh full length LP and can be considered a full circle as he takes a step away from the dance floor to revisit his early inspirations of jazz, 70’s fusion, library music, ambient and sample-based downtempo electronica. With its soulful touches, vocal and live musician features and trademark warm Jimpster production, we also think it could be his most accomplished and accessible yet.

It’s been a busy year for Jimpster, with his Soul Spectral and This Thing (with Rich Medina) EP’s both being amongst the best received and highest selling releases of his to date. He has also added his touch to The Sunburst Band, Soichi Terada, Feiertag, Baiana System, The Secret and Retromigration in the form of some massive remixes to boot, as well as having just released an Anthology spanning 4 vinyl. To help celebrate 25 years of Freerange and Jimpster we wanted to invite some of Jamie’s personal favourites to dig through the vaults and give their own spin on his sound. Kicking things off we have Oakland’s Space Ghost taking on One ft Casamena bring his deft, musical touch to the track complete with layers of digital synths, punchy bass and vintage drum machine groove. Next up it’s Detroit’s own Jon Dixon of Timeline and Galaxy 2 Galaxy fame. The student of Mike Banks and long-term Underground Resistance cohort turns Smile For A While into a late night, piano driven, fusion masterpiece with all that Detroit sonic trickery we know and love so much. LA duo Aaron Paar and Dave Fogg aka Teflon Dons released a slew of incredible 12’s in the mid- late 90’s before almost completely disappearing for most of the 00’s. Thankfully things are reactivated and we’re so happy to have them bring a tough, jacking, bass-heavy warehouse workout to the package. Atlanta’s Kai Alce is someone we’ve hoped to have contribute to Freerange for some time and finally it happened. Bags of smooth and soulful deepness drive Jimpster’s Inside The Loop in a classic direction with Wurli pads and Moogy solo all adding to that vintage sound. Man of the moment Kareem Ali takes the baton as he reworks Bought To Bare into a Balearic beauty worthy of playing during the most perfect sunset. If you’re a fan of Kareem Ali you’ll know the magic he brings and why he’s been hotly tipped as RA’s breakthrough artist of the month and included in Pitchfork’s best releases of 2020.

The world of dance music 25 years ago was a very different place from the one we now inhabit. Rave had transitioned through Hardcore into Drum & Bass whilst UK Garage was brewing nicely and the UK pop charts were full of underground dance records. Meanwhile, the likes of Mo Wax, Ninjatune and Compost were pushing away from the dancefloors, introducing blunted beats, jazz-fusion sonics and a whole new movement to electronic music. It was into this atmosphere that Freerange was born, a UK label that reaches its quarter-century this year. At the helm over the last 25 years has been the partnership of childhood friends Tom Roberts and Jamie ‘Jimpster’ Odell. It’s been a long and eventful journey, from an era of 56k modems, faxed reaction reports and when DJs still bought actual records, Freerange has weathered many storms and sailed through some of the most revolutionary changes to hit the music industry. Through those 25 years, and like the proverbial comforting sound of Bob Ross’ voice, Jimpster’s own music and those artists he releases through the label remain a constantly reliable, not to mention dance floor-smashing presence through the ups and downs of the house music continuum. With his One EP still getting love from the likes of Spinna, Jamie 3:26, Joey Negro, Osunlade and many more, Jimpster strikes back with another release to lift spirits during these unprecedented times. Produced during the first few weeks of the worldwide lockdown, it was his intention to spread a message of positivity and optimism which can be felt on title track Smile For A While. The overall mood of the track has a slightly ambiguous yet heartening tonality, with a filtered looping vocal sample taking centre stage whilst piano lines and analogue arpeggios layer up adding depth and texture. The subtle and seductive groove will draw you in and its warmth and soul will make sure you smile for a while. Flipping over we have Echoes In My Head which takes a more percussive approach based around a rolling bassline and crunchy live hihats. Taking a slightly darker route, Echoes In My Head feels like Jimpster has successfully managed to get all his influences to meld together perfectly to form something cohesive and substantial. His love of 90’s ‘intelligent techno’, On-U sound, early US house, ambient, all going in the melting pot and forming a track which we’re sure will be something of a secret weapon for many DJ’s. Just the kind of track that can completely hypnotise a discerning dance-floor during the hazy hours. Closing out the three track EP we have the Head In The Clouds Mix, which is an alternate version of Echoes In My Head which heads in a more soulful direction. Piano chords and a bending bassline grab your attention whilst a percussion-heavy groove and dubby elements create space and depth to draw you in and ensure you get lost in its heady confines. A leading figure of the contemporary electronic world, Jamie Odell aka Jimpster sets his sights firmly back on the album format with this beautifully crafted long-player; Silent Stars. Kicking things off on Vol. 1 we have an incredible track from Ralph Session ft. Brandon Markell Holmes.
Everything is aural proof that original new music can still hit hard when in the right hands. Inspired by the golden era
of Philly Soul (but no throwback retro rehash!) Everything delivers emotion and energy in equal measures thanks to
Brandon Markell Homes incredible vocals, a track that will stand the test of time and guaranteed to light up dance
floors for time to come.
Next we have Berlin-based New Zealander Philippa who continues to impress with her original sound and delivers a
string-laden, subtle tension builder entitled Mixed Emotions. Vocodered vocals, rolling bassline and simple analogue
synth hooks all go in the melting pot, making for a club track that sounds fresh and unique.
Closing the A side, Palm Skin Productions brings his darker sonic explorations to the release in fine style. Shark
Drunk goes heavy on the acid and sound design textures, all underpinned by a crunchy groove to get the dance floor
locked in during the heavier, tripped out hours.
Flipping over we have the Philadelphia legend Josh Wink and his contribution to the release cryptically entitled NGF.
Here he delivers a masterclass in emotionally charged contemporary house with his signature depth and musicality.
Spanish producer Nacho Marco makes a very long overdue return to Freerange with a sublime of classic feel-good
rolling deepness entitled The Flying Fox. His Sweetest EP dropped almost 20 years ago (and still gets played by
Jane Fitz) and he’s recently released on Chiwax, Phonogramme and his own Loudeast. Fans of his sound will know
what to expect - sun-streaked, hypnotic grooves with a melancholic undercurrent perfect for the heads down 4am
moments.
Ending on a blissed out, chilled vibe we have a very special track from Lovebirds entitled Janet Nice. The perfect
closing track for this landmark release, Lovebirds goes heavy on the emotive pads and reverb-soaked stabs all
underpinned with a slo-mo house groove making for a sultry, otherworldly track to lose yourself in.

Crackazat returns to Freerange for his latest EP entitled Shine, and sees the artist in his finest form to date! An absolute anthem in the making the title track appears here in Club Mix and
Mana’s Dub form, plus an amazing flip of Crouching Tiger from Baltimore legend Karizma Shine is a soulful, jazz-inflicted epic which will have any dance floor worth it’s salt fully locked in.
Crackazat’s own vocals bring hints of Jamiroquai whilst his production calls golden era MAW and Blaze to mind. Add an incredible arrangement, live horns, bass and drums to this already heady

creativity. A staple of the dance floor and a leader beyond it, Karizma represents the past,
present, and future of Baltimore House and once again proves why he’s such a don. Drop this one and run for cover whilst the dancers throw crazy shapes!
Closing out the EP we have Crackazat’s Mana’s Dub take on previous single Watchu Say. Looping up the killer piano hook and his live bass line, Ben manages to craft the kind of warm, uplifting slice of house music which simply works. Limited 12" Hand Stamped Ultra-Clear Vinyl

Dutch producers Fouk make their debut on Freerange Records with a brilliant 4 tracker entitled
the Get It Done EP, showcasing their signature blend of groove, melody, and dancefloor
dynamism. Known for their impeccable craftsmanship and warm, funk-infused house productions,
Fouk have built a loyal following through releases on labels like Heist, Razor-N-Tape, and their
own Outplay imprint. Now, the duo step onto one of the most respected platforms in house
music with four expertly sculpted cuts that balance classic influences with modern flair.
The EP opens with the title track Get It Done, a muscular slice of euphoric Piano House that’s as
uplifting as it is infectious. Built around some familiar piano stabs and a driving groove, it sets the
tone with pure feel-good energy destined to light up basement dancefloors and festivals alike.
Next up is Floating, a high-energy club track propelled by serotonin-boosting Philly strings, simple
rolling bassline and MAW-esque shuffling snares. Fouk channel a rawer edge here, delivering a
tune that’s equal parts powerful and soulful – a perfect peak-time weapon.
On the flip, Neon Drift (Club Mix) takes things into more electronic territory, weaving synth-heavy
arpeggiating textures and Detroit chord stabs into a hypnotic, forward-looking journey. Despite its
exploratory sonic tendencies, the track keeps its eyes firmly on the dancefloor with Fouk’s
trademark groove holding it all together.
Closing out the release is Neon Drift (First Light Mix), a deeper, more introspective reimagining
of the Club Mix. With warm pads, subtle percussion, and a hazy afterhours feel, it provides a
perfect comedown moment – the sunrise companion to the night’s earlier fire.

Dutch producers Fouk make their debut on Freerange Records with a brilliant 4 tracker entitled
the Get It Done EP, showcasing their signature blend of groove, melody, and dancefloor
dynamism. Known for their impeccable craftsmanship and warm, funk-infused house productions,
Fouk have built a loyal following through releases on labels like Heist, Razor-N-Tape, and their
own Outplay imprint. Now, the duo step onto one of the most respected platforms in house
music with four expertly sculpted cuts that balance classic influences with modern flair.
The EP opens with the title track Get It Done, a muscular slice of euphoric Piano House that’s as
uplifting as it is infectious. Built around some familiar piano stabs and a driving groove, it sets the
tone with pure feel-good energy destined to light up basement dancefloors and festivals alike.
Next up is Floating, a high-energy club track propelled by serotonin-boosting Philly strings, simple
rolling bassline and MAW-esque shuffling snares. Fouk channel a rawer edge here, delivering a
tune that’s equal parts powerful and soulful – a perfect peak-time weapon.
On the flip, Neon Drift (Club Mix) takes things into more electronic territory, weaving synth-heavy
arpeggiating textures and Detroit chord stabs into a hypnotic, forward-looking journey. Despite its
exploratory sonic tendencies, the track keeps its eyes firmly on the dancefloor with Fouk’s
trademark groove holding it all together.
Closing out the release is Neon Drift (First Light Mix), a deeper, more introspective reimagining

It’s always a pleasure to welcome Scottish producer Milton Jackson back on Freerange and this time he joins forces with a trio of Detroit heavyweights to deliver the Fire Emoji EP. Brian Kage is a producer / DJ, founder of record label Michigander and has released on esteemed labels such as FXHE and Planet E. Here, Brian is on co-production and mastering duties and helps bring a raw yet musical quality to all four tracks. HazMat Live is a Detroit native known for his unique approach to music and live performances having graced records and live shows with the likes of Kenny Dixon Jr, Amp Fiddler, Bilal, Soul Clap and Delano Smith. Finally, Jon Dixon adds his own inimitable touch to the release with his deft keyboard work. Jon Dixon not only leads the Underground Resistance live acts Galaxy 2 Galaxy and Timeline but has also performed with everyone from Jeff Mills, Carl Craig and Mike Banks through to Goldie, Leon Ware and Dwele. Lead track Fire Emoji is probably best described as a serious stomper. A paired back club tool which pumps hard and will keep the energy levels simmering on any dance floor worth its salt. Echoing vocals and reverb-drenched hits add a trippy edge whilst an extended break adds extra drama and tension to the arrangement. The Sunsetters lightens the mood with a euphoric slice of chunky, deep house which acts as the foundation for HazMat Live to deliver his epic synth solo, accompanied by lush strings, deep pads and punctuating 909 snares. Wanna C U fuses US and UK Garage sounds to form a taught, muscular club groove which will lock you in with it’s fat stabs, swinging beats and repeating sampled vocal hook. Closing out the EP we have The Shine featuring Jon Dixon on keys, who brings things to a climactic finish with his masterful jazz piano flourishes, UR-esque pads and synth lead solo.

His widescreen sounds take their cues from funk, soul and disco and are underpinned by a love of 90s grooves. They appeal to DJs and dancers alike which explains his constant demand for DJ sets around the world as well as his music being played and supported by the biggest names in the scene. After many years of vital 12"s and remixes, he now draws on everything he has learned and raises his levels with a fully realised debut full length. "This album represents a step forward, an opportunity to craft something more musical and intricate, both in terms of arrangement and melody," says the artist, who draws on his roots as a drummer and lays down most of the kit and percussion parts himself. The majority of the album tracks were played live to give them an organic, improvised and personalised touch, with resulting jams reworked and reshaped where necessary over the last year. Because of that fluidity, Always Moving works in many settings. The mix of hooky vocals and compelling drums ground the record with a human feel, as do the collaborations with the guest musicians Black Loops has long admired. The blissed-out broken beats of CDMX kick things off in soulful style, there's a deeper funk to Mamao (a tribute to the hugely influential Azymuth drummer Ivan Conti) and Detroit Love Letter featuring Byron The Aquarius is a warm and gooey deep house cut with majestic chords gelling the mix together. Marlena Dae is an emerging and hugely talented singer based in Berlin and features on tracks including the Metro Area-style disco bounce of Electrical and LSD as well as the weighty deep house of Experience. She also adds her stylish and seductive tones to Pleasure Ride on which Harvey Sutherland features with some cosmic synth work. Always Moving is an artistic triumph that blends a personal and musical approach to production with lived-in grooves that warm the body and soul.
The rest of this most intimate and heartfelt record features the boogie-tinged retro-future synth glow of Synesthesia, dusty drums and twinkling late-night keys of Time Space Matter and leggy downbeat lushness of Intercourse. Ahead of the LP we present the Experience EP which sees Jimpster and Black Loops himself deliver Dub versions of two of the LP’s highlights; Electrical and Experience. Jimpster kicks off with a stripped back, rolling Italo-inspired groover with touches of modular synth sequences, string stabs and dubbed out vocals. Black Loops follows with his own version keeping the funk factor intact with guitar licks, synth blips and extra fat, moog bassline. Flip over for the original of Experience featuring Marlena Dae with it’s distinctly 90’s, Vogue-era Madge mood. Black Loops then proceeds to take it to the club on his Dancefloor Dub, stripping out the vocals and working up a punchy, minimal groove for the dancers. Closing out the release we have an exclusive original, not included on the LP entitled Inmasoul. Jazzy, deep beats are the order of the day here, making for a perfect warm up track to set the mood.

For the second edition of our City To City series we arrive in Lisboa. A city with a rich heritage of electronic music born from a strong affinity to authentic, underground dance music culture. Institutions such as Lux Fragile have carried the sound of Lisbon since it's formative years in the late 90’s. Its long-standing resident DJs now deservedly receiving global recognition and in return, introducing a wider spectrum of appreciation for the sound of the city. Some of which are included on City To City: Lisbon. Here on the second instalment of City To City we introduce six original tracks from seven artists currently making waves in Lisbon. Kicking things off we have Lisbon native, label owner and someone whose name has been firmly integrated with the city for 20+ years, Kaspar from Lisbon AKA DJ Kaspar. With releases on esteemed imprints such as Clone, 4Lux, Stripped and Chewed alongside various works on his own Percebes Musica, we're proud to have Kaspar lead the charge. Mereces provides a raw, hypnotic groove layered with chopped vocals and synth lines which creating an analogue and spontaneous feel which Kaspar has become renowned for. Next up, and picking up the pace we have DJ Honesty and his peak time club track Jazz Mutant. Thumping kick drum, choppy b-lines, intricate drums and a perfectly placed vocal at the end of the first break-down create the foundations for dance-floor pleasure. The German native and long-time Lisbon resident has previously graced the likes of Sonar Kollektiv, Compost & Cabinet and is a welcome edition to this stellar line-up of talent. Closing out the A side we have another Lisbon native, Lux regular and label / record shop owner Jorge Caiado. Jorge is a staple on many a line-up across the city and now internationally flying the flag for the deep-house sound of Lisboa. DJing far and wide from Chicago and Berlin to Beijing and Toronto, Jorge can be heard pushing his minimal deep house sound through his sets and releases on Carpets & Snares, Groovement and the sister label of Chez Damier’s Balance Recordings, Inner-Balance. Jorge has provided the beautifully crafted Good Days for this release which see him layering up the textures, floaty synths, soulful vocal chops & melodic top-lines providing something which truly nourish the soul. Proper deepness! Flipping over we have UK born & Lisboa based Megatronic. Having recently released on labels such as Razor n Tape, Feedasoul and The Remedy Project, Megatronic has firmly established herself as a global artist. A maverick tour de force, she brings her infectious energy to the release via a bumping vocal house track with touches of Bruk vibes entitled Casey Screams. Next up we have Lisboa local and someone who has their feet deeply-rooted to the culture of the city, Moreno Ácido delivering a track entitled Until The Break of Dawn. Mario is diverse in his productions with previous output ranging from tougher, jackin’ tracks such as 100 Controls from his Trash/Treasure EP on Call To Action through to deep, intricate late night moods such as Until The Break Of Dawn. Closing out this special release we have two names most synonymous with the underground sound of Lisbon and more specifically the institution of Lux Fragil; Yen Sung & Photonz. The duo have previously worked together on projects such as Angel Rights on their own imprint Alphabet Street Music and we’re excited to have them provide a thumping track, heads down groover to close the EP. Changes is straight to the point. Rolling bassline, in your face stabs and a heavy dose of kick drum. Something you’ll hear at Lux on any given weekend and a fitting close to a brilliant VA representing all corners of the deeper side of Lisboa.

After 5 million Spotify plays for Turn Me On, 2 million for Move & the first press of the record selling for over £100 on Discogs. Demuja's Move EP was well overdue a repress .. so here it is!

On Demuja's Freerange debut, the Move EP offers up four original tracks, each with their own distinct flavour. Opening the release we have title track Move spring into action with simple Rhodes chords floating across a crisp, driving up-tempo groove showing off the deeper side to Demuja.

Next up B.O.O.M offers us a simple yet captivating, dancefloor-focused affair with a lone, repeating piano stab hooking us into the action.

Flipping over we have Into My Brain which brings some acid-tinged Italo vibes and a jacking beat to proceedings whilst the closing track Turn Me On cuts up a much loved Paradise Garage classic for a warm, soul-infused slice of classic, bumpy house music.

As Freerange hits another landmark release with their 300th EP we see label head Jimpster join forces with Philippa who together deliver 3 original tracks which epitomise the labels’ sound over the past (almost) three decades. With recent releases appearing on Slothboogie and Razor n Tape, remixes for Roach Motel on Faith, and James Curd and Robert Owens on Pronto, not to mention her recent Panorama Bar debut, it’s safe to say Philippa is making waves. The Berlin-based New Zealander has a sound all her own with an organic, deep and musical style winning her many fans from Terry Farley and Aroop Roy to DJ Spen and Dave Lee. Lead track All I Wanted sees the duo pooling their influences with both producers sonic touches shining through. Chunky drums and bassline are the bedrock for pulsing synths and MON’s vocal which is chopped up and looped bringing a rolling momentum to the track. Dreaming features the wonderful vocals of Care and goes on a floaty vibe with chiming synths and crusty Rhodes keys layering up to produce a densely textured track. The mood is powerful yet subtle and refined and will work as nicely on a chilled house playlist as it will on a discerning dance floor at 4am. Closing out the EP we have Say What which goes on a jazzed out, UKG inspired excursion. Shuffling beats, bouncing square wave bassline and big brash synth chords all combine to form a track which sounds both retro and contemporary.

I met Aaron Parr back in 1992 aka the golden era of electronic dance music. Everything was kicking off in the L.A Underground and he was working slap dap in the epi-center at Beatnonstop Records on Melrose Avenue in the heart of Los Angeles. At the time I was living in Santa Barbara still doing my college radio show "The Joy of X" and coming down to L.A on the weekends almost every week since 1989. Aaron had been a mainstay down the street at Streetsounds Records where my then Young friend 19 year old Steve Loria worked alongside warehouse dj & underground legend Barry Weaver.

These were heady times. Clubs, after-hours and renegade break in warehouse jams were the order of the day…every day! The shops fueled the dj's with the dope records and the ravers with the party flyers, the Record Stores were the hub of the whole scene and the key was befriending these upwardly mobile soon to be underground superstars if you wanted fat slabs of wax AND to know where the real deal undergrounds were shaking…literally.

In 1992 I got selected for the U.S Olympic Basketball team and headed back to Europe in an effort to make it to Barcelona and get smashed for the GOLD by the dream team in front of the whole World…no thanks! We got knocked out by Petrovic and the Czechs right b4 Barcelona!
Anywho after 3 months I returned to Cali and there had been a shift, Steve Loria moved up the street from Streetsounds & opened Beatnonstop and it was HUGE! It had quickly become the largest independent record store in the U.S. The scene was massive, everything had exploded. I got in where I fit in and started a weekly Techno club "Happy Planet" on Tuesdays and a House club "NYC" with Doc Martin on a Friday. Both were rammed.

Aaron the industrious Brit from Nottingham & his bredren Dave Fong went to work early too, putting out the Rudiments EP on Worldship Records and then following up with Psycho Ray in 1998.. In 1998 II closed my Culture shop "Soma" down in Santa Barbara, packed up my studio & sound system and moved to L.A official. I had gotten the offer to manage Beatnonstop on Melrose after Steve Loria left and jumped at the chance.

I quickly put together the Beatnonstop Record Label, releasing a double pack "Pacific Coast House EP" feat myself and local producers Aztech Sol, CPen and Kenneth Graham/Steve Loria. I then kicked off PCH Records with "Rhodes Through Space" and after a drunken rendezvous at the Hall of Records Studio one night I signed Aaron & Daves Teflon Dons "My Vice" to the labels.

Vice was right down my alley a dark, grimy acid track with menacing Pacino samples.
After a buying trip for Beatnonstop to NYC. Harry the Bastard from Watts took me down to meet fellow Brit Stefan at Dance Tracks in Manhattan where I found the sample "Our Music" on an accapella in the bins. Super inspired after two weeks trolling round every record distributors warehouse (Watts, Nemesis, Syntax, Downtown etc) and hitting every record store in Manhattan (Vinyl Mania, Discorama, Frankie Bones shop, Satellite and on and on) I came home to L.A and me and Nate loaded up the Emu 64 Ultra sampler and penned "Our Music."

The track is obviously very New York inspired and was received well by Big Apple Dj's David Morales, Junior Vasquez, Roger Sanches & Baby Hec Romero. I would definitely say this track was a slow burner elsewhere and took off later getting the nod from DJ Deep in Paris, + Terry Francis, Eddie Richards and Mr. C in the UK.

It got no love in L.A surprisingly but everywhere else across the country with Miguel Migs and DJ Garth in the Bay, King Britt in Philly and DJ Pope in Baltimore. Now it's back on wax after 25 years remastered by the mighty Martin Iveson and I think the World is finally ready!

Berlin scene figurehead Gilles Aiken, AKA Edward, coming through with a massive Kalahari debut (and it’s safe to say he understood the assignment).

Booting off on a massive remix tip as the veteran producer reinterprets Mike Parker & Aric Rist’s Trybet project, but trust him to allow for a moment of dancefloor introspection. It’s prime early morning gear in a rousing juxtaposition of beatific string harmony and tough-as-nails deepness. Triumphant ‘window shutters open in the club at 5 AM’-type shit.

The other two are quintessential Edward: impressionistic, widescreen odysseys across lysergic terrain, but groove-forward where it counts. A pair of head-spinning explorations intended for the dancefloor, flush with shadowy flex, insectoid detail and tripped-out flourishes while keeping it funked-out in the tradition of Detroit.

The ‘Deep Sea Villain EP’ plumbs the depths of smudged abstraction, and as we’ve come to expect from Edward, it’s big on hallucinatory detail. It all oozes the multi-layered surrealism that typifies his best work. Proper transcendent biz.

Chez Damier and Ralph Lawson had a fruitful transatlantic hook-up decades ago in a famous farmhouse studio in West Yorkshire. The fruits of that session gave rise to some timeless jams - most notably on 2015's full length collaborative album Lost In Time - including the ones appearing here, though two have come in all-new forms. 'A Dedication to Jos', named in honour of Lawson's friend and late Back to Basics resident, is a mid-tempo sound with phased vocals pacing about the mix and a classic bassline that gets a slight Wulf Lost Tape edit. 'Thank You' then comes as a Ralph Lawson dub and has a darker energy rising from the moody bassline.
