Taupe's imprint Colours proudly presents another palate of delicate musical brush strokes that aims to captivate and bounce its spectator. While Taupe's refines his art, this ep has the audacity to retain itself and focus on balance and control. It's a wonderful slice of wax that has many hidden sides to it, which for that reason make it a marvelous mystery to listen to. The ep starts off with a wish-wash of stabs, creating a pressing feeling of urge and uncertainty. Whilst its progressing, things seem to shake and tumble, but never falling. The inner A-side, however, has a clear purpose! An all-present tom knocks your socks off right off the bat, followed by a moist atmosphere and an appetizing hat. While A1 aims to disorient, A2 transports you right to an intimate car-drive at 5am. Flipping the wax won't flip the theme. B1 Perpetuates the feeling of nostalgia and unknowingness by tempting and dissolving the listener with fairytale-worthy arps. Swaying from left to right, follow this dream ride! And to top off this marvelous ride, B2 gently pushes the brake in order to ascertain a comfortable speed that is exquisite for some old-skool head-bobbing. Absorb that addictive bounce! More

We are delighted to share you that Taupe releases on Deeptrax' Tech-um label. After releasing on Indigo Aera's AE-X and Impress records in Berlin, Taupe launched his own recordlabel: Colours Records. On 'Two sides of the same coin' EP, Taupe displays his dualistic take on the techno genre, celebrating both its beauty and ruggedness. With the Detroitish opener 'Altum', Taupe guides the listener into a blissful rabbit hole, filled with dreamlike-arpeggiators and pounding rhythms, bringing ultimo sci-fi sounds from far away. 'Shimmer' brings subtle acidic squelches, crisp hats and modulating synths paving the way into destination unknown. On the B-side, Taupe takes a sudden left into more dark terrain. The menacing 'Joker' teases, agitates but ultimately drives you into a Dionysian state of madness which reminds us of Jeff Mills his fierce Axis stuff. In this case, the environment would be represented by the listener, and the Magnetic Field would be the record. Coincidentally, there has recently been renewed interest in the effects of magnetic fields on biological cells, so be prepared to see where this EP takes you. More

Pleasure of Love reissue imprint, New Islands, launches with a quiet storm, soulful balearic stunner. Kim Yaffa’s Once Bitten was recorded in LA and released on a 1989 private press 7 Inch, only to be buried in american record bins for decades after. A re-emergence of Yaffa’s music on the internet in the last couple years has reached fever pitch, with collectors thirsting for copies of the record. Now, New Islands has worked directly with the artist to deliver an official reissue, professionally transferred from the mixdown reels, carefully restored, and remastered. The title track is an effortless class-act pop tune, with 80s blue eyed soul/Sade inspired sounds, and unknowingly balearic production that make it timeless (reminiscent of Linda Di Franco, Edie Brickell or 80s Fleetwood Mac). 4 years after their groundbreaking debut album “Happily Confused”, Ghost In The Tapes return with a new full-length, “Holidays on Earth”.

This new LP sonically expands multilingual hip-hop and rap towards spiritual jazz and uplifting electronica. Still following the same process of creation through international collaborations, they gathered 26 musicians and vocalists from all around the world, including Alabaster DePlume, Matt Gedrych (Neue Grafik Ensemble), Danalogue, Marysia Osuchowska (Levitation Orchestra), Susumu Mukai (Zongamin, Floating Points), Phil FMU (Vanishing Twin, Broadcast), The Brothers Nylon, Louis Treffel (NCY Milky Band), amongst many others.

“Holidays on Earth” contains 13 new tracks that push the boundaries of hip-hop and jazz hybrids, 12 of which will be released on a limited edition of 300 LPs shaped by US designer Ruff Mercy (Nas, Thom Yorke, J Dilla, Nightmares On Wax…), via BMM Records on April 5th.

Soundtrack of the documentary program for Japanese art history, “Japan: Its Heart and Form” which was aired on NHK educational channel from 1987 to 1988. Akira Mitake worked on it, and after the dissolution of Ippudo, he produced music for the media and provided music to many artists, mainly pop music. It’s an electronic work that expresses the silence, space, romance reminiscent of Japanese spirit. The entire contents has a mysterious atmosphere, “Yasha” and “Keisetsu” are particularly captivating, evoking the beauty of Japan. Truly amazing piece left by the talent behind Masami Tsuchiya, who can be interpreted as ambient music. More

Lone returns to Greco-Roman with a two track 12” of some of his finest work to date. A’-side Waterfall Reverse’ is an ecstatic hardcore song that ascends into a utopian dream. Resident Advisor called it "A fresh reinterpretation of Lone's dayglo breakbeat hardcore.....one of Cutler’s best moments" AA-side Triton serves as a companion piece and keeps things leaner and focused on a 4/4 club sound. Both tracks are peak Lone; mind bendingly, breathtaking machine funk! More

Gladio Operations label presents its ninth release, with volume 2 of the Split Machine series, which this time features two new and recognised faces on the European and American electro scene.

One of these new faces is producer Noamm. This Greek artist, who has releases on such respected labels as Bass Agenda and Fundamental Records, opens the EP with “Clone Machine” and “Scientific Technological Device”, two excellent rough and pragmatic tracks which link perfectly with “Verruckter Wissenschaftler”. The latter track, a fast-paced cut impregnated with tasty dark textures, perfectly defines the talent of the Hellenic producer.

The B-side bears the signature of Brice Kelly, who also debuts on Gladio Operations and gifts us three fantastic, enveloping, and melodic tracks. The American producer kicks off with “Beings of Alpha”, a deep and very well-constructed journey that gives way to “If You Don’t Think Like Us”.

We really like it, even more so if it is accompanied by an elegant vocoder and enigmatic strings. Lastly, we arrive at “Powers That Be”, the closing track of the album, where we can perceive a cut of aggressive bass lines and gloomy textures, well aligned with well-chosen robotic vocals. More

Various artists release by Spanish producers focused on Electro. More

SELF starts 2024 with an international affair. Electric Vandalism is the logical result of decentralized networking that has never been dependent on the "pay for play" logic of agenda-setting magazines and platform gatekeepers. On the contrary, we are definitely interested in abolishing it - see the title of "12".

A1) Viikatory starts "03" with Autobahn-pads and an assertive beat, which develops in a straight line in the second drop, giving the bassline extra life. Many people know the newcomer from Minsk from our tape compilation or from her gig at Leipziger Neue Welle.

A2) In "I Need Your Energy", Swedes Luke Eargoggle & Freddy lay a catchy melody over the 808 pattern, which develops a certain Modern Trips quality in combination with the repeating dialog. Luke runs the legendary label Stilleben Records.

A3) The West Coast Dutchman Edo8 is no stranger to Clone, if you know what I mean. With "BreakOne" he aims straight towards Detroit jit in tempo and style. The syncopated, floating bass barely catches its breath between saturated drums. This track will fire up the deviant electro kids at the end of the A-side.

B1) We were able to introduce Olivia, a producer from Krakow, at the first label party at mjut in Leipzig. She regularly releases tracks on the Rotterdam label Pinkman and forms the duo Radiation 30376 with Chino. Her track "Grzybnia" aptly fits perfectly with the interwoven filter movements over the harsh industrial beat.

B2) DJ Unisex brings the pulse down cold with "Conflict Data", makes the subjects despair under vibrating mirrors and nails the claustrophobic groove with a perfect acid line. What is grace?

B3) The Frankfurt Electrodefender has the answer with his forgiving "Cronberg In A Dream": dopamine synth pads point to the funk dancefloor, the white sneakers are ready and the red tracksuit demands robotic moves. After the vandalism, the sun always rises again.
