Five dazzling remixes of Population One's classic 'Hippnotic Culture' LP by the Detroit minimalist himself. Kicking off with a 20th Anniversary Mix of 'Rush Hour', the track that inspired our company name! Big big tip and a great honor… Play it loud!Objekt: "These are wonderful. No surprise though" Population One, also known as Terrence Dixon, offered a first remix of his mysterious, minimal Detroit track 'Rush Hour' for the celebration of the label's 10th anniversary and now blesses us with new takes on five 'Hippnotic Culture' album tracks. The impressive 'Hippnotic Culture' LP was originally released in 1995 on the long defunct Utensil label, which was run by Claude Young. More

Deadly Population One album from Terrence Dixon on Rush Hour...*Classic Alert* TIP! Under the Population One codename, Detroit citizen,Terrence Dixon, has realised some of his most vivid, esoteric portals to the Motor City mindset. 'Theater Of A Confused Mind' is Dixon's 2nd album in this mode and marks a timely return to Rush Hour twenty years after his debut album, 'Unknown Black Shapes', and the 'Hippnotic Culture' 2LP, whose 'Rush Hour' track inspired our company's name. In both the literal and figurative sense of the album's title - theatre as a space for performance or an operating table, and equally in terms of psychogeography - 'Theater Of A Confused Mind' plays out an affected Afro-futurist narrative over eight tracks of haunting and furtive sci-fi techno. It's riddled with cryptic connotation, systemic from the track titles to its deft, subtle mix down, all drawing upon the city's emotions, industrial architextures and post-industrial panoramas to better express its sense of soul. Between opener 'Out Of Control', where Dixon is the voice-in-Detroit's-head, a dark interpreter on a dérive whispering to himself "Detroit, Out of Control/As I Walk Through The Mists Of Detroit/And You Don't Know What We Be", and through to the mind-blowing sci-fi projections of closer 'All Of A Sudden', it renders a unique perception of Detroit's enduring export. Tracing circuitry like grid-iron avenues, Dixon deviates down back alleys, through warehouses and across mental space, divining the ghosts of jazz in the coiled double bass of 'For Only You', or long lost SOS transmissions in the tribal patterns of 'Code Urgent', whilst the prickling electro of 'Battle For Space' condenses that fractured flux at the album's core, and the kaotic harmonies of 'My Own Shadow' encapsulate a Kafkaseque sense of raving paranoia. In light of recent news that Terrence is set to retire from making music, the already incredible 'Theater Of A Confused Mind' is imparted with an ever more impending sense of gravity. It's little short of Population One's magnum opus, and should be treated with due respect.

Minimal Detroit has deep roots in the city where techno was born, but the spirit of this music is intergalactic. This inaugural EP celebrates “The Bridge” established in Techno between Detroit and Berlin, which resonates around the world.
Side A features two Detroit legends, Terrence Dixon aka Population One and Rod Modell (Deepchord, Echospace), while Side B features two Berlin based artists: the inimitable Thomas Fehlmann (3MB, The Orb, Kompakt, Tresor) and Domenique Xander (Moods & Grooves Records).
The record itself is also a bridge, mastered in Berlin by Mandmade Mastering, and pressed by Archer Record Pressing, who have been pressing records in Detroit since 1965. This limited release is the first chapter of what will certainly be a long and beautiful musical story. More

Release Info:
House music legend DJ Sneak shows us why he’s a master of the groove on his ‘Back to love’ EP for Heist Recordings.
There’s only a handful of people that can really say they’ve seen House music since its earliest days. Puerto Rica-born, Chicago-bred, and LA-based artist DJ Sneak is definitely one of them. He has been the king of the groove ever since his big break back in ’94 through Cajmere’s label Cajual and was key in the development of that mid-nineties house sound with appearances on labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Henry St Music and 83 West. Sneak has worked with some of the biggest artists in the game including Daft Punk, (delivering lyrics for their track ‘Digital Love’), Armand Van Helden and many more.
After a break in the past few years where Sneak re-evaluated his relationship with the scene and his music, he’s now back doing the thing he loves most: Making killer tracks and slamming it on a record. We’ve always considered each other friends and Sneak has been a true supporter of our music and the label since day 1, so it’s humbling to realize that we’re now in a place where we can let his music shine on Heist. With that, we’re proud to present this future classic from the master himself.
The aptly titled “Back to love” EP starts off with one of Sneak’s most intimate productions to date: “Love can make it happen”. Built around an ever-evolving vocal loop, and dreamy strings this track is deeper than deep with the percussion matching that meditative energy, with the grunt only Sneak can bring.
“Going back to it” is Chicago house music in its core. Moody chords, some vocal chops, a badass bass line, and solid percussion is all you need. With ‘Full Cycle’ on the flip, we see Sneak take back his rightful place as the king of the groove. It’s a track that has us reminiscing the days of ‘Paperclip People’ where the bluntness of a live recorded ‘on/off’ arrangement really adds something special to a track.
The EP ends with “Pockets”, a house jam with classic 90s vocals and energetic snare drums to add that classic New York touch to this already amazing record and shows us that DJ Sneak has a great feel for bringing modern day house music with a vintage feel.
As always, enjoy the music and play it loud!
Maarten & Lars
