Archetypal Detroit electro techno taken to the next level by Mr Bernardi on Burek sub label Barba. Barba shows its nasty side after the first and very nice and sweet LD Nero release. Bernardi delivers a double album worth of ideas, spread among 2 releases. The first half of the release is very much in the robots-having-an-argument rather than the peaceful-cosmic-journey vein. The tracks feature abrupt changes, stabbing asymmetrical rhythms, multiple layers of sound and a darker moodier feel. Opening track "Picture painters" is the brightest and liveliest of the three, driven by a classic undulating electro bassline with lots of room to groove within it. Bernardi gradually adds on more and more frenetic elements that push the track (and the right crowd) to ever higher levels of jerky intensity. "Sweet little cheeky" has a similar underpinning but is developed into a much more 4/4 rhythmwith dramatic changes in mood and emphasis to keep it interesting. Finally "Porcelain Candy" offers something rather different with a harsher, less fluid sound as Bernardi's machines are pushed to their rhythmic and sonic limits. Frantic techno for the freaks! More

Marco Bernardi has enjoyed a long an illustrious career, but it's probably in these last couple of years that the Glaswegian producer has found his sound. Previous releases on Frustrated Funk, Clone, Royal Oak, Crème Organisation, Futureboogie and Rawax have built a solid reputation, and key releases last year on Carl Craig's Planet E and MOS/Delsin have sealed his rep as a unique player in the industry. So it's with welcome arms that Hypercolour release the 'Music For Short Attentions' EP, choc full of energizing sounds. Lead cut 'No One Seems To Care' could just be a bona-fide cross over for our man (not that it is the intention), but the surging Resse-esque bassline, blazing synth stabs and rock solid beats provide a real 'call to the dancefloor' moment, the discordant vocal adding to the mood. ‘Meteor' has Bernardi playing his toys to maximum effect, dark and raw Motor City vibes, shades of early Claude Young and Anthony Shakir abound here. 'In Between Fire' is a groovy as hell house cut, all deft organ riffs and twisted modulation whilst vinyl closer 'The Final Triangle' sounds old skool to the max, but a sound and atmosphere that one will never tire of; melancholic riffs and hypnotizing drum machines, all the trademarks of this classic sound we know as techno (in all its forms and tempos). Great stuff from Marco, and an artist we hope to hear much more of in 2014. More

Razor sharp futuristic textures from the Bristol based producer, dropping one of his deadliest EPs to date. Stratagalastico is an absolute bomb of machine-made dynamite, dark and deadly for those who like to lurk in the shadows. Creepy shenanigans are most certainly the order of the day, but with that said, Marco ends the EP with a deep, melodic piece titled “Bugs In The Virus”, a transcendent composition that enriches the Stratagalastico experience and completes the package. Killer.

Marco Bernardi is back on Clone Royal Oak with a beautiful three track ep! Tracks that are a nice blend of his roots in Glasgow and Detroit techno stirred into a nice personal outing that show his talents. Hot release alert by our boy Paul du Lac who is a long time close friend of the frustrated family, colleague at the Clone office and an old DJ buddy of Frustrated Funk label boss Klen (when they played the Nighttown Basement in the early 90's). So it's a bit of a special thing for us having him aboard. This EP shows Paul's signature minimalistic approach on Chicago style house. Typical jacking 707s and 808s combined with minimal synth pulses. 'Qom' and Access' are pure jackin' bliss for the floor while 'Moodswings' goes deeper with layers of warm pads and spaced out stings. The title track comes with a stripped beats version from Tevo Howard, for those who like to mix things up.. Highly Recommended!!

Float away in deep space while you do your late night driving. Harbour City's Duplex is back on track with a serious 2 track release on the newly formed Frustrated Funk offshoot Harbour City Sorrow. A big change in studio set-up and in mindset after a period of keeping things low is clearly audible.. Fresh production.. new ways of doing things.. but staying true to their own sound palette. Until Now is a fierce 11 minute journey that floats on and on while Memory Lane goes into more string laden aquatic territory. Duplex is still on top of their game. BIG!
