Electronic dub energies are glued together with tropical island paradise level ambience, waves of effortlessly full pads and lush bass pulses evaporate into mist. A moment of reflection and centring before a second act of chunky and bombastic beats, dancing in harmony with the soothing nature of it’s humble beginnings. Prototrek brings us a fat slice of deep space pastoralism, high functioning trip-hop from the deepest reaches of the cosmos. The three-track vinyl is sourced from the original reels, cut at 45rpm, and comes with its iconic artwork on a 350gsm sleeve.
Ich möchte ein Eisbär sein…Written by Martin Eicher after a nightmare in which he saw talking polar bears on the walls, and with music by the Grauzone crew consisting of Martin and his brother Stephan Eicher, Marco Repetto, Christian "GT" Trüssel, and Claudine Chirac (on saxophone), "Eisbär" is the most recognizable title from the band, a sublime mix of ingredients reflecting the transitional era it comes from - the raw energy of punk music still palpable, combined with the audacity of early electronics, the warm groove of a disco gem, beautifully fragile lyrics, and one of the best basslines ever. It became a mega hit, totally unplanned, but how could you resist such a track?
"FILM 2" is the ultimate b-side monster, a menacing all-instrumental pre-techno masterpiece, slowly building to a magnetizing frenzy. An instant underground favorite, it was famously heard played at both speeds depending on the scenes and DJs you were frequenting, 45rpm as it was first intended, and 33rpm for the cosmic experience (search Daniele Baldelli’s Cosmic C75 1982 mixtape online for a great example of this).
The maxi single ends with "Ich Lieb Sie", a synth-pop meets doo-wop ballad, a true love song oozing with innocence. Simple, stylish, and just right.
At the crossroads of post-punk, new wave, pop, and electronic experimentation, the Eisbär maxi offers three songs that are technically different but hold the same spirit, the perfect embodiment of Grauzone’s music - wild, unpredictable, and youthful, yet sophisticated, catchy, and ingenious. Over the past three years, Tomiie has dedicated himself to crafting the music on ‘Magic Hour’. Drawing inspiration from various sources, he has created a collection of tracks that showcase his evolution as an artist. With multiple releases during this period, Tomiie has honed his sound and refined his artistic vision.
The first single from the album, titled ‘Echos Cosmiques‘, was released in early 2023 to critical acclaim. It served as a taste of what was to come, generating anticipation and excitement for the full album release. Tokyo based Yuto Takei's latest work is an assortment of numbers that represents fairly well his versatility as a music maker. His capability of painting afterglow soundscapes with a cinematic approach is counterpoised by an almost obsessive interest in percussive experiments. The sparse presence of subtle natural field recordings together with vast open sonic spaces is recurrently sustained by repetitive semi-artificial and frantic cosmic repetitions. Comes with a riso-printed insert, handstamped innersleeve, and a label sticker.

For eighteen revolutions of the sun, they have engaged in the ephemeral symphony of real-time discourse, sans pretentious airs. Two to nine illustrious ladies of Berlin, weaving through the rich tapestry of styles and narratives, have, over time, summoned forth nearly two hundred ensembles. Genre: Concept-Pep. Each performance, each musical troupe, irrevocably entangled in the prose and nomenclature of all participants, venue, and set-up. Repetition, though a rarity, has, in some instances, been grudgingly sanctioned. Yet, lo and behold, there exists now: Festplatte. A compendium.
Upon the A-side, Spassbremse, possessed of an angelic voice, yearns for the elusive essence of liberty, whilst Die Abstände in somber, pulsating offbeat, smirkingly, critique the dominion of control. Pimmelbett, with lyrical poise, and epic reverie, expounds upon the "Infinite Nature of Dreams." Subsequently, as Die supersymmetrischen Teilchen indulge in elegiac ruminations on solitude, Leh Kokott jubilantly resurrects their 2015 summer opus, "un Bouton."
On the B-side, Fräuleinschein assumes a fourfold rhythm, contemplating, in the process, the ethereal sustenance of "Kartoffelpüree", provoking an unknown ensemble to mourn their local tavern in Finnish tradition. The vigor of self-pleasure is exalted in the blues, and Puncikák, in the manner of Balkan minstrels, melodiously intones a pressing yearning through the entirety of her available vocal range. Die Flöhe and the Drunken Sinkers, therein, finalize the anarchic symphony.
In the ethereal cadence of the vocals, the very essence of each musician reveals itself, accompanied by the harmonious assembly of a classical musical ensemble, punctuated by playful ornamentations, and the enchanting resonance of that alluring cello. Festplatte - an ode to the platter of revelry. In the heart of punk, a serpentine melody entwines itself within the confines of your auditory senses.
