Four of DFTD’s latest releases have arrived on wax for the very first time. The A-side begins with Darius Syrossian & George Smeddles’ collaboration ‘Back In The Dance’. This uplifting dancefloor-ready groove with ‘90s influences marked a solid return to the floor after a long lockdown, and quickly became a favourite of top selectors. Next up on the A-side is the Transcriptions Mix of youANDme’s raw DFTD debut: ‘Moment’. Released in collaboration with Georgian singer-songwriter Kristina Sheli, this record cemented their status as contemporary powerhouses of the Berlin club scene. The B-side opens with OFFAIAH’s ‘Up All Night’, a fiery track that makes the perfect addition to any house set; the Las Vegas based artist continues to demonstrate his taste for catchy hooks and intense builds. The B-side continues with a record that has consistently dominated dancefloors throughout summer ’22, Marco Faraone’s powered-up remix of R.E.A.D’s ‘Where’s My Phone?’ featuring Sailor Jane, which closes out the package.

Originally released back in 2006 on Defected, Copyright’s ‘He Is’ remains a beloved dancefloor anthem to this day. The record, which saw the duo return to the US Garage sound that propelled them into clubber’s consciousness at the dawn of the millennium, features a praising vocal from Song Williamson, with charged up keys and rounded groove that gave it its euphoric quality. Now, 14 years after it was first released, DFTD delivers a special 12” remix package, featuring two brand new mixes as well as a classic. Opening the A-Side mysterious Detroit collective Scan 7 supply their uplifting mix, as a pumping bassline and funk-laden instrumentals provide a joyous backdrop to Song Williamson’s rejoicing vocal. Ferrer & Sydenham’s 2006 remix of the track follows, an anthem in its own right. On the flip, Italian powerhouse duo Alaia & Gallo deliver their mix, building on the exhilarating qualities of the original with surging kicks and a punchy beat. Although 2020 may have seen a temporary pause put on live events, it has not stopped the imprint delivering an array of releases designed with the dancefloor in mind. Now this 12” release highlights four of DFTD’s hottest tracks from the year, making a record box essential for discerning club DJs. Kicking off the A-Side with Catz ‘N Dogz ‘Revolution’, a gloriously bumpy and rave-ready cut, Gettoblaster’s ‘This Beat’ comes next, maintaining the energy with bold hats and industrial synths to boot. The Accapella of ‘This Beat’ completes the A-Side, a deep and dark spoken-word tool for DJ sets. Sorley’s label debut ‘Deadeye’ kicks off the flip side, an irresistible cut that was championed by tastemakers like Danny Howard, Michael Bibi, Matthias Tanzmann and Davie Squillace. Finally, closing out the EP is Ashibah’s ‘Devotion’, with a rumbling bassline and adrenaline-fuelled synth stabs, married together with her self-recorded vocal.

DFTD is a new, breakout label to Defected Records focusing on fresh, new and undiscovered talent from around the globe - along with the occasional curveball release from established acts. DFTD complements its parent with a more diverse musical remit, releasing a broad range of electronic music, focussing on quality, discerning dance music. This is the very first vinyl sampler from the label, showcasing three incredible forthcomings tracks, all due to drop on digital early in the summer. First up is Hope from Guti, a stunning Balearic cut from an Argentinian artist who has previously released his outstanding material on Crosstown, Cecile and Supplement Facts. Created with the White Isle in mind, it features a warm bottom end and the intoxicating vocal from Jason Hate’s ‘Pray For Love’; the much lauded track has been a staple of Guti’s sets for some time now and finally sees a release on DFTD. Mercury steps up next with a stripped-back, bass-driven version of Jonas Rathsman’s Tobago - the original mix of which was initially licensed to Chris Malinchak’s French Express label. Rounding things off is Forrest., and artist who shot to notoriety on labels including Noir Music, Souvenir and Gruuv. His inimitable production is characterised by its depth and warmth and Creep is a shining example of his skill.

It makes sense as Toy Tonics stands for that funky mix of three main inflences: original amercian soul based house music, the italo disco heritage and the more London or Paris 1990ies wildstyle house sound. DJ Sneak reached out to the label last year giving his props and showing love for many of Toy Tonics releases and the guys immediately invited him to join the label with an EP as its also his sound that is getting so popular again with the younger dance generation. After putting out a slew of self-released cuts as LKY, Figure finally gets a hold of the rising techno talent that is Nathan Lockwood. Hailing from the UK, this young talent carries an extensive understanding of Britain’s techno lineage, with over a decade of experience in the game both as promoter and DJ.
Now fully coming into his own as a producer, LKY’s tracks are informed by the loopy nature of his progenitors, while still retaining some of the core dub influences and yet always keeping a propulsive momentum going.
On his EP for Figure, title track Symmetry Zone opens with full force, seamlessly intertwining twisting rhythms and searing percussion into a powerful maelstrom of energy. The A2 Chaser is a more reduced take on the formula, rolling out a muscular groove with only a handful of elements, such as precise low-end and some curious synths doing all the work.
On the flip, LKY shows a deeper side to his work, focusing on the hypnotic element that he has become known for. Tracking strikes a wonderful balance between the dubby synth stabs and driving claps, while Formed has an almost Deep House-feel to it, imbued with gorgeous warm ambiance and teasing vocal snips. The digital format of X38 comes with bonus track Idle Ride, a deeper, more tribal affair, displaying LKY’s versatility as a gifted producer.

release we are happy to finally present, for the first time, the full album on vinyl. It spans of three vinyl discs and is packed in a beautiful gatefold sleeve which also holds a download-code. The recut has been carefully crafted from first generation, orignal masters by Calyx in Berlin. Since the album has been praised for its fantastic sound the primary directive was to cut the lacquers for the re-issue so that they would sound exactly the same as the original release, which has been the CD version of the album. No 'digital remastering' or any other alterations have been applied.

April 2024 sees the launch of the Stratasonic imprint with the four-track ‘Accidental Effects’ by ANiML, a collaborative guise for the members of the collective behind the label.
Stratasonic is a new label founded by a German/Canadian collective operating out of LA whose roots dig deep into electronic music. The collective’s philosophy is to reimagine the music, masters, and methods of the past in a modern context, exposing the world to the stuff they like. Here to inaugurate the label is ANIML, the project whose members will remain anonymous is inspired by the classic era of vinyl and analogue production with hints of 90’s nostalgia.
Title-cut ‘Accidental Effects’ leads the EP and lays down twitchy bass grooves, crisp, crunchy breaks and an amalgamation of hip hop vocals all dynamically pieced together and processed to create a raw, fluid dance floorworkout. ‘Mementos’ follows next and veers into a more immersive, cinematic electronica realm via subtly unfurling synth textures, murky bass swells, bumpy breaks, squelchy acid lines and hypnotic brass licks.
Opening the flip-side is ‘Day Dreaming’, shifting focus back to a raw off-kilter rhythm at its foundation while haunting synth lines ebb and flow amongst hooky vocal chants and bubbling echoes. ‘Formulaic Appeal’ then concludes the original material, a three minute ambient darkwave excursion through brooding analogue bass drones, heavily reverberated atmospherics and a ticking clock like percussive effect.
