Cherry will be released on 7 October via Snaith's own Jiaolong label, along with the announcement he has shared a new single 'Cloudy'.
Whether in the studio or the club, Daphni has always been a pursuit where Dan Snaith lets the music find its own path. With Cherry this is more evident than ever, this sense of the tracks as objects with life and desires outside of Snaith's control has now become a driving force in their creation. "There isn't anything obvious that unifies it or makes it hang together" Snaith says, "I think it was good that it was made without worrying about any of that. I just made it."
Recorded over a prolonged period, Snaith let the music go where it wanted to go. It wasn't until he put everything he'd been tinkering with together that he realised what he had. "It's weird that when the tracks were put in what felt like the right order it took on a new coherence" he says, "where it pings quickly from one idea to the next and, at least for me, hangs together in way that feels unified. Maybe because it's hard to avoid the musical fingerprints I leave on the music I make, whether I want to or not."
The component parts have this same sense of independence, the essence of Daphni always present over music that is more free-wheeling than it's ever been, almost escaping Snaith's grasp as it tumbles and spirals. "As is often the case when you're working quickly and intuitively, new pieces of equipment played a part" he says.
New gear and ways of working meant Snaith was able to sit at the centre of the music but let things get away from him a bit more as equipment began to make its own decisions before reeling it back in to suit his purposes, or as he puts it "getting the snake to eat its own tail".

*Throughout Caribou's ongoing world tour, Dan has been hitting club nights in each city, DJing into the wee hours in search of that sweet spot. "DJs have the potential to blindside you," Snaith says. "During the time I was making the Caribou album Swim, I'd fallen back in love with moments in small, dark clubs when a DJ puts on a piece of music that not only can you not identify, but that until you heard it you could not have conceived of existing."
*Inspired to work in a completely different way-setting aside the meticulous compositional rigors and musical layers that underpin Caribou songs-Dan Snaith-as-Daphni reaches out for a more feminine, fluid energy and seeks instant gratification. "Daphni tracks are rough and spontaneous," he explains. "They're about working fast and intuitively, capturing the manic energy needed to start a track one afternoon, have it finished, and be playing it in a club that night."
*Daphni's debut was a re-imagining of Cortney Tidwell's "Watusii" in 2009. Wrapping her vocal in a gloriously layered and tripped out 14-minute bundle of joy that snuck up gently, grew relentlessly, and left listeners dizzy and euphoric, this musical template has been locked in place ever since. Who says man cannot squeeze soul from machines?
*Acclaimed remixes of Hot Chip and Emeralds have followed, while the first proper Daphni track was a split 12-inch with Four Tet in the form of "Ye Ye," a subby and plundering tune that positively screams for an open window to cool down. It was and still is a blistering opening gambit, as was the follow-up 12-inch "Ne Noya," his mix of Cos-Ber-Zam with its superb aquatic rumblings. This release also featured the acidic soulful throb of "Yes, I Know" and the Afro-centric synth-haze that is "Jiao."
*"Electronic instruments are notoriously uncontrollable, unpredictable, and recalcitrant!" Snaith says ruefully. "I've been building a modular synthesizer, which plays a prominent role on this album. It growls or screams when I don't expect it to. Nudging one dial changes the sound so drastically that I'll never get the original sound back. It's like improvising with another musician, and its voice is all over this music."
*Exclusive tracks from this essential collection include the bubbling rat-a-tat of "Light," the perfect synergy of percussive zing and computer flash in "Pairs," the Pterodactyl-swing of "Springs," and the undulating finale of "Long."
"I've been surprised by the number of transcendent moments I, sober and in my mid-30s, have had in clubs in the last few years," Dan says. "There's some magic in it still. The clichés about the collective consciousness of clubs still seems to hold water in some special cases. There is a small world where dance music lives up to its potential to liberate, surprise, and innovate. It's there that I hope Daphni has a place."

Back in 2010 Caribou's Dan Snaith hosted a remix competition for his track 'Sun' from his then-new album Swim. The winner was an unknown producer called altrice.
Hailing from Tucson, Arizona of Iranian/Mexican descent, altrice took the bright euphoric highs of the original and crumbled them into rumbling lows, the crystalline edges becoming rough and undefined. Along with a bursting goody-bag of prizes, Snaith also provided altrice with the stems for the rest of Swim and the offer to remix the whole album track-by-track, creating 'stem'. Aside from a further dream-come-true remix of Radiohead, this is largely the last we heard from altrice in the past 12 years.
https://on.soundcloud.com/Y2Yu
A year and a half ago though, having kept up correspondence with Snaith over the years, altrice began sending new material. With encouragement from Snaith he eventually wound up with an EP which has since become essential DJ material for Snaith and the cohort of friends he's shared it with, as well as appearing in Leon Vynehall's Radio 1 Residency, KH (Four Tet)'s recent Essential Mix and more.
With three tracks already released from the EP receiving further DJ support from Avalon Emerson, Floating Points, Yu Su, Sofia Kourtesis, Mano Le Tough and more, today the EP is released in full officially via Snaith's own Jiaolong label. compciter is a collection of music that for the first time is entirely altrice's own sound, alluring and off-kilter, a wealth of sounds and styles that are tied together by an irresistible warmth.
Speaking of the EP, altrice says:
"This EP is the result of allowing my stylistic boundaries to be nudged in a new direction, putting away a self-inflicted notion that I'm only fluent in certain subgenres of electronic music. I made some production choices that, for better or worse, will make this project stand out. I've been overwhelmed by the reactions in clubs and at festivals, and individuals reaching out with kind words about the music. It's surreal."
From the huddled and obscured yet comforting vocal samples - described by Pitchfork as "a beacon of light in an uncertain landscape" - of 'bda creature' to the swinging 90s eurodance drums of 'places faces' and the way the welcoming guitar melody and soulful vocals of 'eyes' gives way to a full on bass pummel, the tracks that have been released so far from the EP are already causing a stir both on and off the dancefloor. Today, the chopped up vocals and vast roomy sound of 'yoni' along with '1609km' - which would almost be straightforward house if it didn't pull the rug out to make way for delicate piano and harmonica flourishes - complete a set that fulfils a promise 12 years in the making..

Following the rapturously received top ten album 'Our Love', which has dominated end-of-year lists, Caribou has revealed a gloriously layered remix of 'Your Love Will Set You Free' by the one and only Carl Craig. Dan Snaith had this to say about the remix "Carl Craig is a peerless remixer. I've dreamed of having him remix one of my tracks for ages. He was one of the first people to publicly mention how much he liked 'Swim' when it was released and we've been in touch since then. Before I'd gathered up the courage to ask him to remix a track on this album he got in touch and suggested it himself. The result is superlative and speaks for itself."

JIAOLONG011 sees Daphni teaming up with composer/arranger Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy/Arcade Fire/Beirut etc..) The A-side has been a staple in Daphni's DJ sets for the last year delivering bassweight worldwide. 'That track's an enigma - when I listen to it at home it seems relatively innocuous but when I play it out all hell breaks loose', says Dan. The B-side is something even more strange and special - Tiberius is perhaps the world's first microtonal electroacoustic violin techno track.

NEW on Caribou frontman Dan Snaith's Jiaolong imprint. "Grind" is more of a straightforward house track with a warped vocal sitting in the center of it, whereas "Prelims" borrows UK bass' stuttering, deep rhythmic tics, along with some out-there sounds that wouldn't have sounded foreign on Snaith's LP as Daphni

”Twenty years ago, something magical happened. In the space between technology and ideology, two terms that have been
fighting each other to define the days that have come since, an album appeared. A collection of songs that seemed defiantly out
of place. Yet somehow these songs knew themselves. Which, thinking back on it now, better explains why their creator, a young
Swedish musician called José González, felt so familiar to us so quickly.” Zane Lowe on José González’ Veneer.
Today visionary singer-songwriter and guitarist José González has announced the release of a 20th Anniversary Deluxe version of his
uncompromising, candid, game-changing debut album (2003) Veneer. It features newly remastered audio of the seminal album as well as a
bonus disc, comprising 13 intimate recordings from his historic 2003 performance at Gothenburg Concert Hall.
The 20th Anniversary Deluxe Version of Veneer will see release on limited edition double blue vinyl and digitally on October 27th, 2023 via
Peacefrog Records. It features a hand-numbered gatefold and a 24-page booklet filled with archival photos, essays, a song-by-song guide
from José and more.
Veneer made an indelible mark in its understated, expressive brilliance and cemented José González as a meticulous sonic craftsman and
songwriter of singular talent. It’s hard to believe an album recorded with the most basic equipment in a cramped Gothenburg flat could end up
going platinum, not only in Sweden but also the UK, selling well over 1 million copies worldwide. It’s harder still when one acknowledges that,
aside from one brief trumpet solo and the slightest hint of percussion, the record features just one hushed voice and the dexterous picking of an
acoustic guitar’s nylon strings. But 2003’s Veneer was such an album, charting in several countries in the world, and eventually making Top 10
in the UK, thanks in part to its delicate, evocative cover of The Knife’s “Heartbeats”.
Praise for Veneer:
Magical... a supreme talent, reminiscent of the late Arthur Russell The Guardian
Veneer draws you in, it’s easy to believe that the young Swede could begin his own cult The Times
Spine-tingling The Sunday Times

Arguably one of the most acclaimed and loved bands of the past 20 years, by both fans and their musical peers alike, The Beta Band formed in St. Andrews, Scotland, in 1996. Innovative and singular, their unique musical and aesthetic approach to everything they did set them far apart from their musical contemporaries. Together for a relatively short period of time, the three albums and three EPs they released between 1996 and 2004 would nonetheless help define them as one of the most exciting and cherished bands of their generation.
After a short hiatus the band gradually gravitated back into the studio and recruited noted UK producer Colin Emmanuel, aka C-Swing, to oversee the process of "Hot Shots II" which was released in mid 2001. Notoriously the band had intended to release "Squares", which featured a sample from the Günter Kallmann Choir's 1970 version of Wallace Collection's "Daydream", as the lead single. However after filming the music video and taking the single to radio it suddenly transpired that another single "Daydream in Blue" by I Monster featuring the sample from Günter Kallmann Choir recording was also to be released at the same time causing the band to release "Broke" instead. Touring extensively and supporting Radiohead in August 2002, they made No. 3 on Q magazine's list of "50 Bands to See Before You Die".

Released in 1999, the album "The Beta Band" followed the critically acclaimed compilation "The Three E.P.'s" (1998). With high anticipation for The Beta Band, the band originally planned to record the album in four separate continents, but financial constraints slimmed the recording locations down; however, the album was still recorded in a variety of locations and pulling inspiration from sources as diverse as Jamaican reggae, Disney's movie "The Black Hole" and Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart".

LP, Black vinyl with Printed Inner
Territory: Sales Only to: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France
On his sophomore album, the Swedish singer and guitarist takes the basic elements of an acoustic troubadour's
craft and explores their possibilities, not only as ingredients of songs, but as sounds to be enjoyed in their own
right. A stray breath, the buzzing of guitar strings, a hand scraping across the frets: these are all shades in
González's palette. The biggest embellishment you're likely to hear is a metronomic foot-tap, subtle hand
percussion, or a backing vocal by Little Dragon's Yukimi Nagamo. Where the Knife's "haunted house" sound is
informed by minimal techno, González's lo-fi acoustic guitar music could be dubbed "minimal folk."

Release Info:
HYbr:ID Vol. 1 is the first installment of a new series of Alva Noto’s works bringing together heterogeneous composition methods.
HYbr:ID Vol. 1 captures the music commissioned for the score of ‘Oval’, the choreographic piece directed by Richard Siegal and performed by the Staatsballett Berlin at the Berlin State Opera in 2019.
The process of creating HYbr:ID Vol. 1 was defined by the search for a form to bind astrophysics phenomena, fiction, and performance movements.
Its narrative is inspired by cinematic visual techniques and static images portraying scientific events which also inspired the titles of the nine compositions.
The music possesses a dilated rhythmic base contributing to the images of gravity and spatiality. At points static is used with an ornate, delicate intricacy. The album’s sonic spectrum builds with deep sub-bass, gloomy sonics, spacious sound design, and inorganic ambiance that is gently coerced with artistic finesse.
The nine compositions are accompanied by graphic notations informed by the album’s sonic and acoustic codes.
HYbr:ID Vol. 1 will be released digitally as well as a limited edition vinyl and CD.
Album art designed by Carsten Nicolai / Nibo
Mastering by Bo @ Calyx

Sweden’s José González is just such a voice. He first charmed his way into the UK’s earshot via the murmurous and
elegant, classically finger-picked folk pop of his 2005 album, Veneer, which has since sold over a staggering 430, 000
copies in UK alone. Two years later came In Our Nature, a further exploration of José’s influences (Argentinian
Folklore, the ’60s US folk tradition and the British pastoral folk-pop style of the same era), on which he resisted the
temptation to beef up his alluringly introvert aesthetic. The albums made the UK Top 10 and Top 20 respectively.
It may be seven years since he released a solo record, but José has been anything but idle in that time. He’s delivered
two albums with the band Junip, his more fulsome, electronic-edged, pop project and has toured with both the
Berlin/Göteborg String Theory orchestra (in 2011), co-performing 11 reworking’s of his songs, Sidi Touré and played
with Malian desert blues troupe Tinariwen (both in 2012). In 2013, Hollywood came calling when Ben
Stiller commissioned José to work with Theodore Shapiro on the soundtrack to his remake of ‘The Secret Life of
Walter Mitty’ and most recently, he’s contributed his version of ‘This is How We Walk On the Moon’ to the Red Hot
charity compilation honouring Arthur Russell. Community and collaboration are obviously satisfying in their own ways,
but now José is again stepping centre stage solo, with Vestiges & Claws.
Conceived as the natural third part in an acoustic trilogy, Vestiges & Claws is a(nother) hushed and delicate solo set
that forefronts the artist and guitarist’s compellingly intimate vocal style and intricate playing technique, but it’s often
strikingly rhythmic in nature and cohere’s perfectly, with hand claps and taps on the body of his instrument underlining
the songs’ mantric rise-and-fall pattern, while elsewhere, over-dubbed guitar parts and multi-tracked vocal harmonies
entwine to sweetly immersive effect.
The title refers to both cultural practices and biological features that survive despite having lost their original function,
and to currently useful tools, ie the “claws” of modern life.
Vestiges & Claws was recorded almost entirely by José and self-produced, mostly in his Gothenburg home, using
computer plug-ins to achieve a warm, analogue sound. He prefers working alone, mainly for artistic reasons. “There
were a couple of things that enabled me to complete this record: one was curiosity, to be able to play percussion and
do a lot of harmonies and also to produce and mix the album; the other was aesthetics. I love to listen to Arthur Russell
and Shuggie Otis, to music that has been done mostly by one person in their solitary state.”
As José sees it, the record is his personal, “zoomed-out eye on humanity on a small, pale blue dot in a cold, sparse
and unfriendly space. The amazing fact that we are all here, an attempt at encouraging us to understand ourselves and
to make the best of the one life we know we have – after birth and before death."

Release Info:
Alva Noto returns to his much awaited Xerrox project with Vol. 4, the fourth installment of the five-piece intended series based on the concept of digital replication of source material.
Using the process of copying as a basis, the Xerrox series deals with the manipulation of data by means of endless reproduction. Due to the inherent fallacy of the procedure involving the making of copies made from
other copies, everyday’s sounds become so altered that they can be hardly associated with the source material. As a result, entirely new sounds are created: copies of originals become originals themselves.
Following Xerrox Vol. 1 (2007), Vol. 2 (2009), Vol. 3 (2015), Carsten Nicolai continues the pentalogy eluding the accuracy and precise sound design for which he’s renowned, and turning to a more harmony-driven composition technique.
Unlike the previous Xerrox albums, whose starting point is a set of samples extracted from external sources and fragments of recordings, Vol. 4 compounds under a unified cinematic soundscape, warm chords, thrumming digital ambiences, liquified
electronics, drones, and noise sustained by floods of strings. The tension between the organic warmth and static curves, broads tones into distant roars and electronic cascade of sounds.
While Alva Noto's oeuvre is predominantly affiliated with pristine sound design, Xerrox holds more intimate
gestures and emotional sensibility. This fourth volume shuns further from the conceptualism and orderliness of prior musical outputs, ranging from heart-warming elegies to mind-bending sci-fi projections in extrasolar territories.

Release Notes:
It’s rare that a certain sound is entirely an artist’s own. Although undeniably a stew of impeccable influences – from blues to folk to Latin to dusty funk, soul and hip-hop – one cannot hear a Tommy Guerrero song without immediately recognising it as his - and his only.
The cult skater from San Francisco is globally renowned as one of the original members of the legendary “Bones Brigade” team. And as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, his laid-back soul is beloved by all who’ve basked in its blissful glow.
There’s something elemental about this music that really stirs the soul. Strikingly beautiful and instantly addictive, it’s a kind of funk-fuelled, melody-driven, groove-based magic. There’s a serenity and heart in the playing that radiates warmth and splendour, as if crafted for endless sunsets. His albums that surfaced on Mo Wax at the turn of the century have been treasured since their release and it’s two of his most vital LPs that we’re honoured to reintroduce.
The originals were quietly pressed on to a single piece of vinyl so we’ve worked closely with Tommy this year to bring you these fresh, limited editions. They have been lovingly remastered, cut nice and loud on to heavyweight double vinyl and presented in deluxe gatefold jackets.
Soul Food Taqueria continued Guerrero’s guitar soul but represented a step forward with its polished production and greater complexity of instrumentation. Denied the promotion it deserved upon release, it flew under the radar. It is now the most wanted record of his wondrous back catalogue.
Guerrero’s atmospheric touch and subtle guitar provide lush, glimmering pieces of musical texture. Within his spacious compositions, uniquely arranged instruments flourish alongside each other to create a languid soundtrack for halcyon days.
As ever, the diversity on display is beguiling. From bossa nova, samba and cumbia rhythms to understated folk, funk and soul grooves, this is another exotic set of mellow gold; perfectly represented by ESPO’s memorable artwork. Furthermore, the title’s hybridity reflects the intoxicating sweep of stylistic flavours served up, reminding us that, however tricky it is to categorise Guerrero’s special blend, it’s always a pleasure to indulge in something so creative and adventurous.
Dubby, bass-heavy instrumentals give way to moody folk-soul – witness “It Gets Heavy”, featuring melancholic vocals from Gresham Taylor – whilst “Thank You MK” is a gentle ode to the tropics, featuring ethereal instrumentation, bright bass and warm, jazzy guitars. The second half in particular contains a number of stunning ambient tracks – check “Lost Unfound”, “Another Brother Gone” and “Broken Blood” - built around minimalist, laid-back grooves and detailed guitar orchestrations which wouldn’t be out of place on the latest Jonny Nash release.
Guerrero closes this flawless set with a moment of true beauty. Restrained and graceful, “Falling Awake” is a pared back piece containing meditative guitar melodies set against melancholic piano arrangements. It brings proceedings to the most peaceful close. Seductively good, it reminds you just how great simplicity can sound.

Vocal-led tracks tastefully borrow from a range of genre influences; from the Hip Hop inflected ‘In Your Phase’ with 22Carbone, an incendiary number that will be firmly burnt into the memory of any attendee of Garnier’s recent DJ sets, to the Punk of ‘Saturn Drive Triplex’, which features vocals from the late Alan Vega, of influential duo Suicide notoriety. Elsewhere, sprinklings of broken rhythms appear in the leftfield downtempo cut ‘...et puis s’en Va!’ and Drum & Bass experiment ‘Sado Miso’, offering listeners a further view into his wide-ranging taste.
Across 2022, Garnier released five EPs, each containing a special hidden code referencing a fairground ride from his childhood, alluding to the album. Now presented through various mediums upon release, including a triple Vinyl LP, cassette, and CD alongside the digital copy, each version offers a thoughtfully tailored experience towards the listener's preferred format. Detroit-based duo Ataxia and Mister Joshooa come together on Life and Death with their new EP 'Mastermind'. The record marks a new installation of Ataxia's punk forward house vibe; however, this time the group has their blinders on - this mini album is 100% dance floor oriented, all suited up to scratch the insatiable itch of the worldwide dance
Starting off strong with 'Mastermind', the collaboration delivers from the second we hit play. The A-side maintains similar elements such as a resonant kick and skipping percussive beats masterfully intertwined with vocals that echo and stutter. Record scratches, cowbell, and classic vocal hits can all be found on the B-side, bringing old-school sounds to the forefront with dynamic, rhythmic grooves.

Cassy - B2. Where Are We Now (Persuader Remix)
GENRE/S: House /Techno
Cassy returns with ‘E.T.Ascension’, a mini journey through the sounds of house and techno which she adores. With this release she revisits the simplistic methods she used when making music in previous years when living in Berlin with her then husband, where he helped build her home-studio in the living room. With him being an established sound engineer she learned a lot from him through the process and by using predominantly just an 808 and a PC, the pair produced the main parts of these tracks together, with Cassy finishing them off herself last summer. It reminded her of the weirdness that makes her productions so great, which is what she has pinned on this release, enjoying the feelings of freedom by using the machine again, and revisiting the feelings she had when using the machine for the first time, how fresh, new and particular the sounds were.
