Silverlining - Forest Dreams
If there were a parallel universe, Silverlining would surely inhabit it as a devoted silviculturalist (one who cares and cultivates forest trees; a forester), empowered with superpowers to converse with the plants. But in this realm, the South Londoner can only daydream about a life in the woods from the warmth of his log cabin-inspired studio in the depths of the urban sprawl, accented with the aromas of forest air freshener. His latest Forest Dreams EP channels his pining for pine onto yet another slice of black PVA for your listening and dancing enjoyment. “The Lumberjack’s Call” laments the woodcutter’s cry for “timber” (or is it saying “deeper”?), stripping a disco-tinged house groove through a metaphysical sawmill, punctuated by Motor City-inspired synths. “Tepozteco”, named after the neotropical national park and mountaintop pyramid outside Mexico City, draws inspiration equally from US house grooves of Mood II Swing as it does the ethereal synthetics of early Warp Records. The release closes off with the title track “Forest Dreams” where the latter earthly tones are swept aside to meet the demands of dayglow techno sprites that haunt the electrics of Silverlining’s studio.

Silverlining - Downtime
London's Silverlining returns to his solo-only home, Silverlining Dubs, for this two-tracker that sees him exploring previously unexplored sonic territories for him. ‘Comares’, written in the rolling hills of Andalusia, draws influences equally from the rhythms of UK breaks from the past decade, as it does the blissed-out melodies of early nineties halcyon rave. ‘Downtime’ heads straight for that centre right spot of the dancefloor, right in front of the booth, where the heads congregate. Its snappy 909 drums, heady bassline, tearing acid line, and cut-up vocals blend perfectly as one hearty underground broth. This is the first original release to be produced and mixed in Silverlining’s new Cabin Studio in South London. We'll spare you the list of names but this has had early support from some of the industry's finest!

Silverlining - Aura (Silverlining Double Dub)
Silverlining's debut EP, Simulacra, was released earlier in 2021 to wide critical acclaim and support by diggers the world over. One of the most loved tracks was undoubtedly Aura, a keyboard driven, Detroit-inspired jam with a succinct but feverish vocal. For the eleventh edition on the South Londoner's sought-after series, Silverlining has pulled together three sublime remixes of the aforementioned. The first is by Detroit native and Atlanta resident, Kai Alce, who harnesses the original's latent deepness, building an entirely fresh, jazz-driven groove. Next up, is an acid-laden revision by London legend, Voigtmann, who keeps it dark and dirty for the first half of the remix, until he drops in some surprises from the original towards the latter end of the track. The flip sees Silverlining returning to Aura for his Double Dub, that pulls the track into authentic 90s deep house territory before drifting off seamlessly into 5 minutes of ambience.

We are extremely happy to welcome Asad Rizvi aka Silverlining on the label. Asad is responsible for some of the genre defining tunes in the 90s and his recent productions are as impactfull as ever as proven by this new track «6am Cab to Leyton». To back it up we asked two of the most sought after producers to remix it. Both Sweely and Enzo Siragusa deliver a stunning take of the main track.

Ask anyone involved in London's treasured underground house scene of the mid 90s and they'll all tell you the same thing: Silverlining is among that era's most prolific and consistent producers. A musician and DJ of considerable craft and technicality, his is a way of working that's meant he's gained a sort of cult following in discerning circles, with his many vinyl releases always going down a treat with in-the-know record heads. Don't just take our word for it: check out Silverlining's Discogs page to get an idea of what we're talking about. For his latest, the British producer returns to his Silverlining Dubs imprint for a four track EP that's laced with dancefloor-focused goodness. Kicking off the EP is the rugged sounds of 'Groundhog Rave', fresh out of his South London studio. A muscular cut that never lets its momentum falter for every a moment, this one is characterised by its canny bells as well as a firm dedication to dancefloor aesthetics. Full to the brim with swirling, unpredictable tones from the off, it's full of menace and bags a serious punch. An auspicious start to proceedings, it paves the way for 'Stolen Baggage'. Originally released on Eukahouse in 1997, it is an example of Silverlining's knack for more introspective cuts. Dextrous, deep and trippy but definitely geared towards the floor, this one has been tailor-made for the night's tripper moments in mind. The wonderfully-named 'Spinach, Mystery and Insult' then gets the B side underway. Arguably the EP's most momentous moment, this one plays out like one of Carl Craig's grandiose productions as 69. A versatile, flair-laden production that's suited to both the beginning and the tail-end of any set, it's a warm, hypnotic gem that's hard not to lap up. Seeing us out the gate soon after is 'Sticky Snails', a truly eclectic listen with guitar and bass licks courtesy of Chris Pascoe, and a range of melodic bells featuring throughout. Stopping to pass for breath around the half-way mark, it keeps us captivated all the way thanks to its incessant ability to keep up second-guessing. A triumphant EP full of versatile weapons, Silverlining's latest marks another storied chapter in an increasingly impressive discography.

London's Silverlining turns in another two underground bombs on this sought-after label, this time with two tracks never released before on vinyl. "A Paradoxical Insistance" is fresh from 2018, with his trademark skip and depth, while "Turn, Turn, Turn" employs the spoken-word talents of Canada's Effluence with trippy bleeps and cavernous stabs. Like all releases on the label, the tracks have been mastered to tape, and cut onto deliciously chunky 180g vinyl.

The Silverlining series continues its output of deep, underground body music with this three tracker that features the sought-after 'Invisible Ink' track from his Reverberations days, 'Lessons in Jerboa', a brand new tracky modular frenzy, a re-edit of his track from the Mirai compilation, and closing off with 'Devotion', a previously unreleased melodic ambient track created for his friends' wedding in 1996.

London-based artist Silverlining continues his vinyl series with a reissue of one of his most sought-after tracks, Breezin' Thru. First released in 1998, the track is now almost 20 years old and has stood the test of time with second-hand prices soaring to L70 and over, and current supporters including Apollonia and Secretsundaze. The flip features a remix of Andy Blake and Dave Coker's Doodlebug project, with tinges of 80s electro, West Coast breaks and old school deep house, all fused together for big systems.

The Silverlining Dubs series marches on with this set of three rare remixes by the South Londoner. The A-side features Silverlining's outright monster of a dub of The Inhabitants' "The Truth and a Lie" with Jayson Walker of vocals; followed by the warm baseline heavy groove of "G-Spot by" Tokyo's Dog with The Groove Lights; and on the flip, a whole side dedicated to his highly sought-after remix of The Mingers. Together this cooks up one swirling broth of straight up underground house music with sprinklings, in equal measures, of intellect and party spirit!

This special, sixth release on Neotropiq brings together four artists from the DJ collective that has grown from the booth of the label’s secretive and sought-out parties in South London. The “Treefrog Army EP” features solo tracks by the label’s founder, Silverlining, alongside Neotropiq residents, Trixie, Oliver Moon, and South London legend, Tom Gillieron.
What is Neotropiq? The neotropical realm is the bioregion that provides the lungs of the planet and is home to the highest concentration of biodiversity and unique species anywhere, many of which are endangered. The label’s emblem, the treefrog, celebrates individuality and nature whilst recognising the need to protect both. Therefore, Neotropiq can be defined as a multi-background, gender-balanced, and cross-generational collective of DJs, producers, and music lovers. Just as we might see a caravan of camels and a shoal of piranhas, the collective makes up the beautiful army of treefrogs that is Neotropiq.
The “Treefrog Army EP”, therefore, marks out distinguished yet complementary atmospheres that wander between several shades of electronic dance. As if each were telling their own distinct tale, this body of work flows like a late-night conversation between four good friends. With all tracks mixed or pre-mastered at Silverlining’s recently built North Wood Cabin Studio, this family excursion represents each artist’s individual sonic palette and groove while perfectly complementing the others.
Silverlining’s opening track, “Murine Illusions”, is a powerful, peak-time, West-Coast-inspired acid house workout cruising on an irresistible, rumbling bass arrangement and nostalgic vocal samples. Next up is Trixie, whose “Handshake” is a simmering and hypnotic encounter, with glitchy broken drums and whirring, otherworldly synths that animate another life around the body of the track.
On the B-side, Oliver Moon doesn’t hold back with the dynamite “What You Want” where icy TR-707 drums brush by as you find yourself caught in an elasticated groove that's full of surprises. Mysterious vocals by Moon himself are laced throughout, creating a sense of curiosity on the dance-floor. Last but not least are the chunky Motor City-infused vibrations of Tom Gillieron’s “Orange Clouds”. Subaqueous pads create a mesmerising dreamworld and combine with crisp drums for the hazy hours of the morning.
This four-tracker offers a breath of fresh, forest air from the Neotropiq crew who break genre conventions while sharing a love for warm aesthetics. Outside of production, the crew also shares a love for vinyl digging, and in the booth, they each deliver their own unique energy. The all-encompassing collective is not only united by music, but also use their unified voice to speak up about injustice and imbalances around the world. More
