This time around, he's teamed up with label boss Eddie C on production, as well as an assortment of underground artists from around the globe whom he has collaborated with during his WorldKwaitour, which he combined with the 30th anniversary of his successful underground independent debut, AmaJoviJovi.
Bink, the genre Sandy B coined, is a modern take on Kwaito's loose rhythms and the mid-tempo funk we've come to know and love from the Red Motorbike stables.
Sandy B's Zulu staccato rap and R&B stylings sound as fresh as ever as he continues to connect with his global family through his international travels, currently on tour across Asia and Australia.

Harold dons his Lion’s Drums alias for two powerful edits of South African kwaito legend Sandy B.
Originally released in Durban on cassette and limited white label in 1994, then reissued on Invisible City Editions in 2017, ‘Amajovi’ and ‘Student Night’ were two stand out tracks from a larger mini album release that brought everything that we love about the 90s together into a fiery township party fusion; European crossover house music hits, acid house, west coast hip-hop, all blended with vibrant percussion and kwaito flavour, it captured the exciting energy of post-Apartheid South Africa… Which is now brought into the 2020s with complete respect and passion by Lion’s Drums.
‘Amajovi’ takes the low-and-slow tempo of the original up a gear with a bulbous kick and layers of percussion. Bringing Sandy’s chanting vocals right to the front of the mix, and fine-tuning the original’s purring bassline, the game changes with the entrance of heavenly harmonic pipes and a sense of momentum and vibe that sits somewhere between Awesome Tapes From Africa and Hessle Audio.
Meanwhile ‘Student Night’ bubbles from the off with a very well-known bassline hook that’s peppered with flashes of 303, hand drums, pipes and Sandy’s own peppy chatter. From the moment you hear the universal sound of a can opening, this lives up to its name whether you skipped school or achieved a masters. All fully endorsed and supported by the original don Sandy himself, it’s all positive education…

Originally self-released on cassette and a white label 12”, rumour has it Sandy had to remake the tracks from memory because even he couldn’t find a copy. In its original post-apartheid context, Amajovi Jovi was a sign of youthful subversiveness, rebellious creativity and a neck snapping rejection to the fascist groove of a silenced nation. While the Pantsulla hustler nods to house legends like Jamie Principle and Pal Joey, its hip hop breaks and interludes show a clear affection for Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle. At its slowed down tempo however, this low-fi kwaito masterpiece turns away from its American influence and looks towards Baldelli and his cosmos. Best of all are Sandy’s vocals— deep, melodic Zulu rap, sung flippantly—the way that only a true gangster could. As Champion Records celebrates its landmark 35th anniversary in 2020, the legendary label unearths another gem from its impressive catalogue - Raze ‘Break 4 Love’ from 1988 - and gives the house classic a fresh update with a set of special remixes from Michael Gray and Rob Made.
First up, veteran of the scene Michael Gray puts his signature touch on ‘Break 4 Love’ adding extra percussive elements and sensuous sound effects, alongside filtering, echoing and enhancing in all the right areas. Through this Gray stays true to the original whilst providing a fresh take on the ’88 classic.
The flip side houses Rob Made’s Disco Mix. With ‘Break 4 Love’ being one of Rob Made’s “all-time favourite house records, a love song for the floors”, he showcases the “instantly recognisable snare and drum pattern” turning it into a shimmering disco house cut.
